I think older Royal Caribbean ships should have an office or booth on board where guests can borrow approved USB extenders for free. Guests could return them by bringing them back to the office or leaving them in their cabins. If they keep them, they would be charged for them since their SeaPass card is linked to the USB extender they borrowed.

I recently cruised with a friend on Liberty of the Seas. Between the 2 of us we had 3 medical devices with only 2 outlets in the room. Before starting to pack, I reviewed the no-no list and saw nothing about multi plug adapters. We brought multi plug adapters and a multiplug extension cord (all without surge protectors) all of them were confiscated from our luggage. We spent the first night playing switch-a-roo with plugs to the different medical devices. Needless to say we were unable to charge any electronics because there were no USB ports in our cabin. Fortunately, after complaining they returned our adapters and extension cords saving us from 8 nights of outlet swapping. Royal needs to keep in mind some passengers have more than 2 pieces of medical equipment needing electricity.

Here's the thing though, whether its a single or multiple-plug adapter doesn't really matter. It's that people overload them beyond their rated wattage (the dual plug adapter shown is about 1800 watts, the single adapter might be, say 1500 watts). People just need to read instructions and labels on outlets and adapters and NOT overload them. I t's possible to overload the single plug adapter as well and cause a fire. But at the same time, if this is their concern (overloading and fires) then they should probably update their ship with adequate breakers that pop when too much current goes through outlets (they probably do, but then they need to make it clear to guests that the outlets for example can only handle say up to 1000W or 1500W max per outlet.) The adapter isn't really the problem here, it's people not reading/following directions. I've used those adapters a lot in Europe and NEVER had an issue, but I also never overloaded them (the most I put on one was maybe 500W with my laptop, a tablet and two phones) but it and the wall socket was rated for some 1500W. I also made a point to unplug it when I wasn't there to reduce the risk of fire as well. So that may also be an issue -- people leaving them plugged in, possibly with devices plugged in, while not in the room, and it creates a potential fire hazard, but again, that's not specific to a dual-plug designed adapter.

It is necessary to make convenience for us. most gentlemen use for charging phones, cameras, electric beard/mustache shaver and the ladies need for their hair drier, flat iron, etc. It is NOT like charging power supplies for power generators. if cruise company know that is the need and why make it avail instead so many regulations. We have been cruising for 30yrs and each year i can see RCi scale down everything but the price keep going up. I am gonna loose my interest pretty soon. How many outlets is enough. For some 1 or 2 may be enough others may need 5 or 6.
@billybenson38342 ай бұрын
The problem isn't simple solved by adding "more" outlets. To actually upgrade the electrical system on an older cruise ship is far more complicated, from adding upgraded wiring (there are literally miles of wire on these ships) to an entire electrical upgrade on the power grid. The real reason is all the crap people now think they need including multiple IPad devices, multiple laptops, phones, fans, and a dozen items needed to fool others that you're more beautiful and younger than you are. Plus the fact everything is left plugged in and charging while often laying on a bed, clothing, or pile of papers that are potentially fire dangers. We take a portable phone charger with us, the primary reason is for excursions. Since we only use our phones for the cruiseline app and messenging each other on the ship, we rarely have issues, and even then the power bank we have can keep us charged up.
@tduck8282 ай бұрын

@kenyattaclay76662 ай бұрын
@@billybenson3834listen, just about all of what you have said is BS. Carnival has ships that are just as old as what Royal has & they have found ways to update the plug situation on their older ships by adding outlets in the lamps by the bed on both sides. This isn’t about people with multiple iPads, it’s about the basic stuff that people have that need to be charged. For example my razor only charges by USB so that means in either need a USB hub or power brick with a USB. Then there’s my phone, watch & headphones which all need to be charged. The simple fact is it’s about Royal refusing to update the cabins for the modern traveler. Something as simple as adding USB outlets by the beds would go a LONG way in solving this issue because all someone has to do from t the ere is plug in their charging station for their watch, phone & headphones . If their competitors can do it in dry doc then Royal can do the same thing.

The issue with these devices is not the device itself, but that people plug in too much stuff into them and dont read the instructions, thus probably overloading the socket (and the adapter) and creating a fire hazard. So I don't think the fact it has 2 ports versus 1 port matters much, other than they may view that as a way of preventing people from overloading the sockets in the room, which may be the issue, but then they should state that, or say explicitly that the outlets in the room can only handle, say 500W per outlet. Most properly wired outlets (on a board or in a building) should have breakers that pop once the max rated current is reached. If that's not happening, then perhaps they need to look into the wiring of the ship and update it if necessary (I'm not sure if maritime regulations are different than regular building codes since ships tend to generate their own power onboard versus getting it from a landlined source but I doubt the fact that it has 2 plus versus 1 greatly reduces the risk. You can still plug in a high-wattage appliance into a single out and create a fire hazard).

This is off-topic but I wanted to bring it to your attention since you are everything Royal Carribean. I checked into my cruise last night using my Royal Caribbean app. I waited until midnight the day before check-in so I could get an early embarkation. I was checking in both my husband and myself. I had everything loaded onto my phone including “live” pictures of the two of us and our passports, credit card, etc. I was told that the picture would need to be “live” which I thought was the setting on my iPhone but instead, the only option on my app was to TAKE a picture at that time. Since I had set my alarm for midnight, I looked absolutely hideous. And my husband was sleeping so I did not want to wake him up to take his picture. But with no other option, I had to upload the hideous picture of myself and a picture I took of my husbands passport just to get through the check-in process. I am hoping that we can switch these pictures out but I thought since you are everything Royal Caribbean, you could let other cruisers know about this glitch in the midnight check in idea. A lot of family members use one person to check everyone in and if you do it at midnight it could be a disaster, especially for larger families!

It's not a matter of using a plug it's about using an adaptor for any kind of extension cord to reach the bed. What happens if they don't have enough extension cords for those that need them, especially if 2 people in a cabin need it. The only adaptor for "extensions is USB. Had to deal with that once and not having access NEVER again will I trust jumping through hoops for hope and prayers they have what we need. Nope, not happening, if we can't bring our own Royal Is OUT. Period.

Need wall outlets not USB/USB-C. Surge protectors add a benefit to have additional outlets. Which will help charge or allow multiple uses. If my wife and I have fans to keep the air flowing in the room. They should give an example of what is approved so it doesn't get out of hand as you stated.

If you’re worried about vape pens or cartridges or even edibles its really matters where you leave out from i just did the mariner out of Galveston texas and i was able to bring everything not only that but the couple next to us brought 4 bottles of wine and a whole ounce of some good gas

It make sense. If a room is only rated for a certain number of items to be running at once, but everyone is using 3 or 4 more items, then a system overload could happen. Who wants to be adrift on a ship when a circuit trips? Or worse, the ship loses power when maneuvering at port. Wasn't there a recent cargo ship in Baltimore that lost power and it drifted into a bridge and destroyed it? It seems extreme. What will my steamer do? Nothing? What if 4000 other people are steaming their clothes for formal night at the same time? Best to err on the safe side, yes?

What is it with RC? This is total nonsense! On top of that, they will NOT EXPLAIN WHY this is necessary. You want cooperation from people, tell them why things are happening and keep them informed. You want a bunch of PO'ed people, just keep issuing edicts from "the throne" without explanation!!!!!!!!!!!

I officially will not book any one on Royal Caribbean as a travel agent because of this. And I will not use them anymore because of this either. Another thing cruise lines need to get off. The band list is amateur radios. The fact of the matter is those cannot interfere with the communications at all. Those videos can’t even transmit on those frequencies. They have not banned DMR radios.

You're a terrible travel agent because who are you to tell people where they can't book a cruise with? Everyone is acting like a death sentence, it's not even that serious.

Thank you Matt for clearing things up. But I can not understand how this can cause a KERFUFFLE. Its the least KERFUFFLE-LY thing it could be! You wound not plugg SIX devices into a single power-outlet at home! Why? Because it would blow a fuse! Its NO different on a cruise ship! Common people! Some common sense will tell you that! Happy cruising....without starting an electrical fire!

Not to be a contrarian, but I just don’t understand why people were bringing these in the first place. Like, you should be enjoying your vacation! Not attached to a million different electronics! I’ve got my phone, SOMETIMES my iPad, Apple Watch, and a kindle. There is NO TIME I have to charge all four at the same time. I understand if people are vlogging/content creation but let’s be real, none of you are doing all that 😂 I’m also 29 for reference, so no one better call me a boomer 😂
