This report is so nuts the sovereign grant is not public money; it is not income tax money collected by parliament. I don’t see how with a straight face the English Republicans can say these things. That money is profit from the Crown Estate a vast holding of property and areas historically owned outright and controlled by the head (king or queen ) of the royal family, these properties passing on to each subsequent monarch. However George 3 took these properties and put them in Trust for the “Crown” to be managed by Parliament provided they managed the money to run the States operations including the cost of wars (he was tired of being responsible personally for the bills to say it plainly) and they appropriate an amount needed by the “Crown” to ru their households and the everyday activities the Family needs to do to complete their duty to the Sovereign. Under Queen Elizabeth instead of debating the amount each year making it look like parliament is giving the family tax money a percentage of the profits from these properties, industries, and holding of the Crown Estate be transferred to the Crown for running the business of the royal family which includes being the head of state representing the people of GB at home and abroad. That percentage is like 20 odd percent of which now the Crown must pay back to parliament the income taxes that would be levied if this amount was income of an ordinary citizen. The residual amount is this 86 million of tax payer money she speaks of (she didn’t mention the dutchy of landcaster owned by the Queen who realizes all profits from it so does that figure included in the 86million) This is wrongly labeled as tax payer money Even dividing it out to cost per census number of people in GB as if they passed the hat. It is just wrong in my opinion. I’m an American and I may have some od these details wrong but I believe them to be true. If I am wrong please explain how this money is “tax payer money” let’s say the GB people decide to end the monarchy (fire the royal family) and elect a President, so they plan on stealing(seizing) the Crown Estate properties placed in Trust or the family with the parliament the trustee managing it? Or maybe you plan on seizing it all and forcing the family into exile fleeing in fear of being jailed and hung (the standard way governments depose their monarch? From an Americans view when explained like tjis report it sounds like they are handed 100 million form the cash collected from the people but in reality the people kept 80 percent of the profit for managing the properties legitimately owned by the royal family. Again am I wrong please explain.

This is full of inaccuracies. The Sovereign Grant is a percentage of the profits of the Crown Estate. The Government does very well out of this arrangement because the rest of the profits go to the government. So, not only does the Monarchy cost taxpayers nothing, excepting the costs of security, it benefits taxpayers many times over both from the Crown Estate revenue and the boost to tourism etc.

No matter how many times this has been explained people still complain how much they cost. My thing is that, a country has over 100 forms of gaining revenue, especially one with the UK's large economy. Taxes are just one of them. So if money is spent on the Monarchy, then it could be money from exports, or the tech industry or the tourism industry. And members of the Royal family pay more taxes than most. So if they receive tax dollars, then it's also their money.

That is a lie. The government knows exactly how much money the monarchy and royal family brings in or rather generates for the UK. When people travel , they often book flights, with hotels, maybe even rent a car. While at a hotel, they know from the cards and room service. The businesses know how much they generate from tourism. Bus fares, train rides. When HRH Princess Catherine wears something, people go to shops, on line and buy that product or a similar product. They know that a royal generated that interest. Neil Sean just reported that HM did that iconic skit with Paddington Bear and sales of marmalade, Paddington Bear has increased around the world. The billions and billions and billions of dollars that the monarchy generates is well accounted for.

What this channel also forgot to mention was that State Visits, whether receiving foreign dignitaries or visiting another country, is at the request of the UK government. Those Visits that the Family might not necessarily want to do have to be paid for, which is covered by the Sovereign Grant. The State Visits are 'work' and not simply a fun jolly wearing a tiara. This channel, for saying that it's a news channel, is poor at imparting relevant information. ITN - do better.

Far better return on the dollar than most any other country in the world. The Monatchy brings in over £2 Billion a year in tourism and trade. That money hoes to fund the NHS and other social programs that the UK has. This year, after the Jubilee and reopening post covid, that number will be substantially higher, probably close to doubling that figure.

No mention of the crown estate, that Prince Charles pays taxes and that the Palace generates money during the two months it’s open for tours. Also not mentioned that the palace has been neglected for decades and was in desperate need of new plumbing, electrical and a roof. So the cost of maintenance should be off set by the tours every summer. The best comparison is what other countries of similar size spend annually on their heads of state and get no positive generations to the overall economy in return. All of the luxuries are paid from the two duchies the cloths, jewelry, interior decoration ect. One major thing is never mentioned the profit the uk media generate from all the documentaries, books and tabloid newspapers. Maybe they should chip in eg how much did they make selling the jubilee concert broadcasting rights?

True. As are all the other assets from which the RF claim to draw a private income. However, there is also the incredible expense of indulging the members of the RF themselves. Each trip in the royal train costs in excess of £20.000. Then there are the helicopters and the private jets, the cost of performing completely unnecessary royal duties which are frequently no more than leisure activities; and dont forget the added cost of security, which is a secret and not included in the sovereign grant. Given that the various public assets are paid for by the taxpayer anyway - as they should be - why do we grant anything to the RF. They contribute nothing and only represent an added and unreasonable cost and waste of resources that could be better channeled elsewhere. I'm not sure what the exact figure is, but I believe Charles gets paid some extraordinary amount per hour ( over £30,000 per hour - yes 30 thousand. He is a senior royal of course, but I think Kate receives well in excess of £200, 000 per week. Still extraordinary given that she doesn't really work (again, I don't have current figures, but her so called royal duties - many of which are no more than leisure activities - involved approximately 3.5 weeks equivalent of full time work in 2019). Clearly the cost of maintaining public assets (which the taxpayer bears in any case) would be much cheaper if not the added financial burden of supporting the royals themselves. They are independently wealthy and can surely pay for thir own planes, trains, security and automobiles. It is an egregious and unjustifiable waste. Larceny, in fact.

God? The last thing the Queen wants is God putting in his two bits in. Shes doing very nicely living a life of heavenly luxury at the expense of others, most of whom will never know anything close to the lavish lifestyle she enjoys, without his butting in. Blessed are the poor indeed, as long as they know their place and continue to pay up. Besides she'll be meeting God soon enough - perhaps, unless she gets the other elevator - and will have a chance to fill him in on her various good deeds then, assuming he doesn't demand she follow the camel through the eye of a needle first, that is. For the time being, though, God protect us from the queen.

@@therealsophiemary Sophie it doesn't take much. The sovereign grant has been in the news. It is a matter of point of view to a degree with those supporting the RF refering to the SG as crown estates and interpting it as somehow an indication that it belongs to the queen. It doesnt. It is public property. "Crown Eststes" would be referred to as something else in countries that are not a monarchy. They are the property of the commonwealth in other commonwealth countries - some of them, Im not sure about Canada as they seem particularly determined to distance themselves from any suggestion that the RF has a role to play in public administration. The RF dont work. They publish their official diaries on the roysls website, although these are exeedingly hard to navigate and you have to do a lot of work to actulally work out what they did. Nonetheless, it seems that eithe Charles or Anne are the hardest working royals, with Charles putting in 500 hours of royal duties in 2019. Most of these lasted less than an hour and involved personal interests. When the queen was sick, it was revealed that one of her "official duties" involved watching a horse race, on television, in which her horse was running. Really? Kate and William were the laziest of the senior royals with K working 3.5 weeks in a year. Again "work" is used loosley. You can find this info - look up the republican movment. However, it is all academic as the royals do not engage in anything essential or necessary. It is a con designed to imply that they have a function. They are an undemocratic institution who have no role in a democracy. None. The real work of the state is done by public servants and elected officials. In what context is it reasonable to assume that people should be granted executive power based on nothing other than the fact that they were born. You too were born and have as many qualifications required to be a duke, duchesses, queen or any other made up title they give themselves. It doesnt even matter what they do or dont do. It simply makes no real difference because they contribute nothing meaningful ( they get paid for charity work, for crying out loud). They are an offence to notions of fairness, equality and merit and are a ridiculous waste of resources which could be directed elsewhere. Im happy for them to pretend they are "royals" and go about having people curtsy to them. Makes no difference what they want to pretend to themselves, but do it in your own time and not at the expense of the taxpayer

@@therealsophiemary No, thats not correct - but given the unreasonable deference Betty Windsor has been shown ( since just after the second election of Churchill) it wouldn't surprise me if a popularity minded govt made a deal with her. There is no denying her popularity (even with me, to a certian extent) and it would be a brave govt indeed that would be willing to work against her interest. The monarchy is distinct from Betty. Shes just a woman. Crown property is not the property of her family. The dissatisfaction with the royals is growing and if under 30s had their way there would be no queen today. It is a growing trend which is not likely to be reversed with the ascension of Charles. The monarchy is on its last legs and there is no way the government that oversees their final demise will hand over substantial holdings - including a significant part of the coast line - to private individuals. The only reason Crown assets are codified in the way they are is because the UK is a constitutional monarchy. The real monarch is irrelevant and the crown estates do not belong to the Windsor family. They are the beneficiaries of them due to an antiquated system which was under threat immediately after the 2nd WW, (when disatisfaction with the monarchy was higher than it is even today) but which was preserved for political reasons. It is quite arbitrary. The fact is that the RF will not exist in 30 years maybe 20 or sooner. Id like to think that they have less than a decade in them, but that might be wishful thinking on my behalf. In any case, when they go, they will not be taking the crown estates with them and they might even be stripped of other assets if it is deemed that they aquired them as a result of their constitutional status. If things become crazier - which I doubt, but the world seems insane at present - it is possible that there might be punative measures taken against the RF (as there have been in other jurisdictions) when they are shown the door. I have no idea, of course, but the royals have already been squirreling money where it cant be found, and I would not be surprised if there is not an exodus of the Windsor family from the UK once it becomes obvious that the inevitable is around the corner. The crown is a constitutional concept. The Windsors do not own the estates gained by previous periods of acquisition. The means by which they are compensated for a deal between parliment and George III is antiquated and a joke. Not only that, but Betty Windsor is not a queen in the sense that it applied in antiquity. She has none of the powers, cant raise an amarda or impose her will - without corruption - on the people. The sovereign grant is a grift by a family motivated by their own self interests. The money is not theirs

These people who moan on about polluting at air cuz of the planes they need to think twice cuz how do they get to go on their holidays if they don’t like polluting the air? How do they drive around cars pollute the air too,so do busses trains. The queen looks so lovely in her mild yrs now and she still manages to smile. Catherine so stunning too she buys most of her dresses herself she had a good wage before getting with William,she even bought her own wedding dress.love the Cambridge’s they will make excellent king and queen consort

In some ways, it's less spiteful the taxation in the US. The further left wing a politician is more positioned, the more that the rely on the wealthy to train their voters' collective animus on. But they rely even more on this class of people who they (often) publically malign because those are the most significant individual tax benefactors foreclosures grand federal ideas which would channel there money in a direction more exclusively beneficial (in the most direct sense) to people contributing far less to the federal budget. Even then, people demand more, and more, and more of the government in subjective spending without having any pragmatic idea of how to lower the national debt. Other than more steeply increasing the taxes on those who they increasingly vilify, yet wouldn't want those individuals individuals moving to other countries.
@Ater_Draco
@Ater_Draco 2 жыл бұрын
What does any of that have to do with the RF or UK? You don't even have a political left in the US. You have a two party state, which would go down like a bucket of cold sick within our democracy. Plus, both of your political parties are right wing, with one being more slightly centrist than the other. The US doesn't have the political spectrum of the UK or other developed countries around the planet. The political centre and left in the UK have always been the parties of the working people. The right wing are the parties of the rich elite. You are comparing apple and aardvarks when comparing USian politics with our country
@kencoleman5007
@kencoleman5007 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ater_Draco This has to do with the RF (through this video) because royal income & spending (in the UK, not in the UAE or kingdoms where there's more money and opulence) is often subject to criticism by political pundits. In the US, it's one of the main talking points when increasingly vitriolic people try politicizing every action of the royal family. Even the most anti-RF Americans were buzzing about Harry's wedding. The bride didn't need to be Meghan. The Bride could've been an promiscuous over-the-hill show girl that he met in Vegas, but what mattered to them was that was marrying an iconoclast with Black geneaology. Unfortunately, whether they intended it or not, Harry's marriage was spoken of, criticized, defended, and championed not do much as a union of two kindred spirits as a contract of social political diplomacy (something more like royal weddings from centuries ago).

What? What have left wing politicians got to do with the fact that these people who are without accomplishment or qualifications of any type, and who dont work in any real sense of the word assume their lives of fabulous luxury should be supported by others. Where dud you get the notion that anyone is demanding more and more of the royals? It is the royals the royals who demand mire and more without making a contribution of any type. Even when the queen announced, magnanimously, that she was willing to pay taxes (something from which she had been exempt - so much fir making a contribution ), she was caught hiding her true earnings in an offshore account (remember the Paradise Papers) of the type used by some of the most unsavoury characters imaginable, including other corrupt royals. I dont quite understand the logic of your whole statement, but it is clear that the RF are the largest welfare recipients in the UK, if not the world. In other jurisdictions still anachronistic enough to have a RF, the cost of supporting such an institution is a fraction of that in the UK. Why? What needs do these individually wealthy parasites who are nonetheless willing to put their hands out, without embarrassment, for a handout have. Do they eat gold? They serve no function, have no jobs, and contribute nothing. Even according the most rationalist laissez-faire view of the world, they represent unjustifiable privilege and waste.
