The life story of Queen Sofía of Spain

Today, let's talk about the story of Queen Sofia of Spain, the sister of Greek King Constantine II. In 1938, Queen Sofia was born in Nazi-occupied Greece. Her mother was Princess Frederica of Hanover, and her father was King Paul I of Greece. Sofia was the eldest child in the family. Due to the threat of the German army, the family sought refuge in Africa when she was young. Her uncle, the former king, once joked that the essential item for a Greek king was a suitcase, and history proved him right. It's unknown how King Constantine II, who spent a significant part of his life in exile, felt about this statement.

In 1938, when Sofia Glügsburg was born, Greece wasn't occupied by Nazi Germany but it had its own fascist regime of Ioannis Metaxas, whom appointed as fascist dictator the Sofia's uncle, King George II. All the political opponents were sent to exile and the left wing opponents were being tortured systematically. Fortunately, we the Greeks accomplished to overthrown the fascist greek royal family (nominal greek, they never considered themselves Greeks but something above the Greeks), which never served the interests of the Greek People but only the interests of the UK, the USA and the greek oligarchy, throwing to exile thousands of its political adversaries and adulterating the elections when the result wasn't in favor of them, finishing with a dictatorship in 1967, giving the coup instigators the mandate to form a fascist dictatorship government, throwing again and again their political opponents to exile. Only after 1974 the people are not sent in exile and only after 1983 the political refugees were allowed to come back to Greece. Such was Greece of the Glücksburgs: poverty, immigration, political refugees and exiles and dictatorships.
