Great video, I really like the way you presented the (very difficult to explain) concept. Focus is something almost no one talks about. I 100% agree that great aim supplements the efficiency at which you apply your crosshair placement. However, it's important to understand that if you have insane aim but are unable to apply the aim properly (ie bad placement), there is no dice. Therefore I believe it's better to understand how to apply it correctly first, and then make it more efficient afterwards through aimtraining (unless you have genuinely never held a mouse before and have vegetable levels of aiming).
@royalgftw

Hey Fishychair! Glad you enjoyed the video :d I totally agree with you on this. Learning how to use crosshair placement conceptually isn't too hard, so it is definitely more efficient to at least understand the awareness principles (as someone starting off). However, the wall where people fail to grow past is definitely the point when aim, self-awareness, and focus become much more relevant. I think a lot of people, when they hit that wall, struggle to realize that aim is the key because everything they learned so far is technically some form of micro game sense 😅

One crosshair placement trick that works both for cs and valo : If u are at an obvious angle then place your crosshair close to the edge of the wall/angle from where the enemy might peek. That's because the enemy will most likely jiggle/slow-peek that area. But if you're at an off-angle, keep your crosshair at one inch (cs) or a little more than half an inch (valo) from the wall/angle from where the enemy might peek.
@pot8oman134
@pot8oman134 6 ай бұрын
Stolen from woohoojin but: Don't default to holding for a jiggle/tight swing. This is because when holding an angle and somebody dry swings u 1 of 3 things happen. 1. Enemy swings between your cross hair and the cover giving a limited space for them to move before your cross hair is on them 2. Enemy swings right into your cross hair 3. Enemy wide swings past your cross hair leading to a popping swing type scenario where they have so much room to move that your crosshair won't catch up to them before you die. Of these 3 scenarios we want them to occur in this order of frequency (high to low): 2, 1, 3 Essentially we never want situation 3 to occur because you have to make a recovery to win the fight rather than. Because of this we should default to holding wide (there are exceptions) for swings
@pot8oman134
@pot8oman134 6 ай бұрын
To counter this, jiggle unreasonably fast/close to to the cover and then after a short pause wide swing
@lighty6401
@lighty6401 6 ай бұрын
@@pot8oman134 This counter works well in CS but not so much in Valo as the movement speed in Valo is slower compared to CS. This may work upto Plat. But Diamond and above, anybody with good enough aim won't fall for it. In such a situation, they'll rely on their flick rather than crosshair placement.

I'm so f***ing happy I subbed here to see this masterpiece video. You're a legend dude. I struggled with this problem ever since a friend of mine taught me cross hair placement. I feel like I used to have better crosshair placement before he taught me because it was my own self taught adaptation to my valorant. And I was already ascendant with my own unique mechanics. Now I'm still stuck ascendant but I'm actually worse because I mixed up my intuition with information I learnt from people and a lot of it is taught poorly even though I'm sure the coaches' intentions are good.

I totally agree and i've been thinking about this during my own journey climbing to immo+. My conclusion was that good crosshair placement compared to bad crosshair placement isn't all about where your crosshair actually is placed, but more importantly, what is happening in your head, which i think you called focus in the video. And in my opinion, focus is the single most important factor for aiming after someone has already understood the basics. If you have to think about where your crosshair is/should be/will be, then you will more than likely not hit the shot your going for, because you're distracted by your crosshair. I learned that focusing on the actual enemy/target you're shooting at, instead of your crosshair, is always superior than watching your crosshair, even if that means your crosshair placement looks worse on screen. Ideally your crosshair should be in the right place without you having to actively think about it, so your sole focus can be on the target you're trying to shoot. The whole concept of "perfect" crosshair placement is a myth anyways, since in almost every fight during a match it is impossible to place the crosshair exactly where the enemy head is popping up, which means you have to adjust anyways. tldr: crosshair placement is a habit you shouldn't actively be thinking about during a match, you whole focus should be on the actual target/character model you gonna shoot, not on your crosshair/crosshair placement. This also helps with speeding up the process of clearing angles and makes it less likely to get surprised. The actual accuracy, e.g. what people would call "good" crosshair placement, simply comes from practice, and NOT from focusing on it directly.

One thing I notice with typical aiming guides is that they'll tell you how to do crosshair placement, awareness in map, leaving a gap based on your reaction time, and all that shenanigan. However, when I put it in game, it did make me improve, but not that much. I realize that as much as crosshair placement is important, my adjustments will be based off my skill, and my skills still are not yet that great. I got to Gold by mastering spray, but I got to Plat by playing it smart. Now I am 50 points away from Diamond and I can tell you, it takes time. Sometimes others are just better than you, and that's okay. We all wanna enjoy the game, and we can get better along the way.

Ome of the advices he gave me was to focus more on crosshair placement, and not worry too much about raw mechanics. While i felt smarter about the game after his sessions, i still wasnt climbing, and it was because i was losing every gunfight. I decided to go back and find a new aim training regime on aimlabs and i feel so much better in gunfights again. At the end of the day, aim is the name of this game.

This... This video right here is the "True ideal of crosshair placement". The definition you said "Crosshair placement is to use your aim preemptively remove (or rather reduce) the need of aim" and "Why can pro hold angle that you can't seems to make work, to put it simply. Your Aim Suck" Hits really hard and hold SUPER true. I hit the level where I feel very hesitate to peek when all I have to do is just put crosshair to the common angle and shoot. Literally all I have to do is improve my raw aim because in the end of the day. It's First Person "Shooting" game. This video really means a lot to me thank you RoyalG keep up good work!

you still need to micro adjust even if it is perfectly placed because you don't know how far the enemy will peek around the corner. that's where dynamic aim comes in. flick on target, short tracing period, confirm target. it's just very different to what they are trying to tell you that you don't have yo move your mouse, when you have perfect crosshair placement.

My val advice? You just learn through experience, through success, and through losses. Adapting to what reflexes, aiming or strategies didnt work, to adopting what did work for YOU is the most key thing. the reason Valorant is one of those games that has guides on it for how to improve is BECAUSE its a game not meant to be mastered in a day. Meaning the best way to find your rhythm..step ONE..is have enough time to play Val to figure out your strengths and kryptonites. In terms of agents, weapons, maps and your approach to combat, then improving apon those.

hi! great video and i absolutely agree with what was said, but i think i can offer some insight for those who came here that might be looking to improve on their crosshair placement. a common thing that i think most high elo players dont think about (and another reason why for example, trying to mimic demon1 doesnt work for you) is that people play differently at different levels. what i mean by this is that for example, you might see a radiant or pro player hold a common angle very close and while u might miss this shot because you dont have the same reaction time, you might also miss this shot because the higher elo player will jiggle this angle, or at least not swing as wide causing the higher elo situation to give you more time to react without adjusting your crosshair; meanwhile in a lower elo setting, the enemy is more likely to swing much wider and hence you should probably adjust your crosshair to be further from the angle. you need to kind of actively adapt depending on the players youre playing against and i believe this is something not often mentioned. to elaborate further on this, pre-aiming angles absolutely dont work the same between for example radiant and diamond, and id go as far to say as its very different between even radiant and immortal 3. playing reyna a lot, i often use off-angles to my advantage to get an unexpected kill and then get away; and this is commonly used in higher elo so sometimes it can actually get pretty predictable and is where jumpspotting and things like "slicing the pie" become pretty useful, or where you can very fast get hard-countered by characters like skye, sova or kayo. meanwhile, i find that i actually die a lot in lower elo to people playing off-angles not on purpose. ie a lot of lower ranked players will position themselves in a lot of strange angles that you wouldnt expect and while this might work its often not the correct play. hence in lower elo, the application of crosshair placement is not as important as raw aim id say, since most people dont position themselves well. another reason why you might be struggling can be because of ping. the difference between just 20 and 50 ping can be huge sometimes, so sometimes even though youre doing everything correctly, it could just be a server issue, or they had higher ping and saw you before you could see them for example. it happens. to finish off, let me give you some small tips that might come in useful - blending angles something i do very often is "blending my angles" and what do i mean by this? so sometimes you might find yourself in a situation where you can get peeked from more than one angle, and if possible, you should try to position yourself in such a way that they blend together so that youre holding both angles without having to move your crosshair. this might not be something you can always apply, but there are definitely situations where this is useful. you know when youre holding something and you keep bouncing your crosshair back and forth between angles? try to think if you can position yourself better so you have to move your crosshair less. - countering movement so this is something i struggle with when i switch between accounts. people move very very differently between different elo, and of course theres exceptions, just like to everything ive said so far, but predictive aiming is what i believe applies here. an easy tip is that a lot of players like to spam adadad, you probably do this too, and so do i from time to time. to counter this, you can sometimes just let a player run back into your crosshair, ie you hold kind of in the middle. this one is difficult to explain and helps a lot more in games like overwatch where the time to kill is higher but its definitely very applicable in valorant as well. another point that mostly applies in somewhat higher elo is holding for a jumpspot; if you think someone is going to jumpspot, position your crosshair a bit higher up and you might get away with a headshot, this isnt something id recommend if youre below immortal as it wouldnt apply very often, but if youre a higher rank holding for example c long on haven from platform you might get a few kills with this. - adapting your crosshair placement depending on gun or playstyle this might seem like an obvious one, like aim for the centre of mass with the operator or shotguns etc etc, but it goes deeper than that in my opinion. for example, if im playing with the guardian or the sheriff, ill keep my crosshair at head level usually a little higher than normal, like just above the nose maybe? but if im playing a gun like the vandal or god forbid, the phantom, ill actually aim a little lower just because i burst a lot, so it kind of naturally recoils into a headshot. the difference is pretty miniscule and might be hard to notice if youre not thinking about it, and it might not be for you either! i believe a kind of meta like this existed for the sg back in cs, and theres videos analyzing players on astralis like xyp9x aiming "low", its all personal preference though. - actively thinking about how youre aiming so this one might be a bit controversial and hard to apply for some people, but its what i find helps me the absolute most, and it kind of sums it all up for me. but trying to always actively think about where my crosshair is changes a lot for me. it really helps me stay calm and not just breaking out into a panic spray. kind of visualizing how youre going to get swung, or where the enemy is going to move to and just trying to keep it all in mind whilst just being calm. theres no magic tip or secret to this one, it just comes with practice i think. adapting ingame to the way the enemy swings and moves and just keeping everything in mind. sometimes this might feel a bit overwhelming when you also have to focus on the game itself, as well as everything else thats going on in the match like being aware of the minimap and callouts and util etc, so mix around with it a bit and if you get kind of zoned out because youre overthinking, dial it back a little; but always try to be at least a tiny bit aware about where your crosshair actually is, instead of just autopiloting like royal mentioned in the video. i believe that this is something thats very overlooked but something everyone in higher elo does but maybe subconsciously at times. i remember cs pro swag talking about this in an interview a very long time ago, and i remember when it finally "clicked" for me, and i immediately thought back on that interview i had seen years prior feeling like i knew exactly what he meant. i feel like this ties together the aiming and gamesense parts pretty well though, they dont always have to be seen as separate parts of the game. of course even if you integrate everything here perfectly, youre still going to lose gunfights and games time and time again. theres no secret tip or anything thatll give you aimbot, and even then, people with aimbot have lost games before. but hopefully these things can help you become a better player and help you win more games.

I started playing 2 weeks ago and now my account can play competitive now. When I tried to party with my friends who I always played with in unrated. It says rank too high or smthin like that. They are bronze-silver. Is it because of me getting higher rank? Since I haven't played competitive and still unranked.

9:53 I completely agree bcuz I keep my crosshair perfectly but these micro adjustments get me sometimes. I would have damaged the opponent like 80-120 always and i freak out that time

My weakness is having decent crosshair placement but bad holding position reaction time so instead I rely on making flick/micro adjustment reaction aim plays instead of just Being Normal

4:55 also, if someone is peaking a close angle all game, its more reasonable to hold the angle based on how the enemy is peaking, if they peak wide and your holding a tight angle and cant react that fast, etc
