As we approach the climax of 40th anniversary commemorations of the Falklands war, we look at the legacy of conflict - through the eyes of two veterans.
Former aircrewman John Sheldon shared his memories of 1982 - including his role in the rescue of survivors from HMS Coventry.
And sailors from HMS Prince of Wales and RNAS Yeovilton were introduced to the poetry of Phil Ellison, a leading stoker aboard flagship HMS Hermes.
He wrote a book of powerful verse to exorcise the ghosts of 1982 and come to terms with his experiences.

The hate filled, racist, violent anti British far left in our country may hate our history, but my god i love my country and these brave men did the almost impossible, they are the finest credit to our fabulous country. I have nothing but utter respect for all involved in liberating the Falklands. Our military are the pride of Britain/UK. All involved are hero’s. The Guardian may run a piece with the words ‘Malvinas’, but the rest if us will ALWAYS call it ‘The Falklands’. They gave their lives to defend liberty and freedom. We will never forget. 🇬🇧

Indeed, It's sad what our country has become, these soldiers risked their lives to protect Britain and now they roll on their graves to see what Britain has become a shadow of its former self.

The Argentines did not have the support of NATO, they did not have the support of Chile and other countries that helped England, they were 18-year-old conscripts with days of training and yet they beat the English even with all the disadvantages they had . Cold, hunger, humiliations, etc etc and even so, the English world power had unforeseen casualties by its generals, especially inflicted by the Argentine air force that flew with old planes and at a total disadvantage. They call "their territory" a place that has a distance of more than 10,000 kilometers and occupants to the country that has the winged island... It would be good to see the documentaries of the testimonies of the Argentine soldiers who were at a total disadvantage and were only 18 years old.

beat England where? when they invaded they only faced a few dozen marines? The argentine air force consisted of modern aircraft they were not old and they did not only have a few - they lost 35 fighters which wasn't there whole arsenal. When the UK did try and take back the island the Argentinian conscripts showed no real threat. Ur take on history is not what is written by the people who do know what they're talking about.

@@amanaujla3 I think the papers of the Westminster historians did not tell you everything... the Argentines were many conscripts of 18 years who resisted fiercely full of cold and hunger and with days of training, they beat him up being poorly trained, your English historians did not They tell you everything because they can't bear to know the losses they suffered against cold and hungry conscripts. On the other hand, it would be good for you to find out if the Super Etendard and Skyhacks planes of the Argentine aviation were not old compared to the harriers and the courage of the Argentine pilots who destroyed some of the most modern ships in the world. In addition to that, England sank a ship outside the war zone (Manuel Belgrano ship) recognized by Tachter herself. Look beyond your historians who don't tell you everything because it doesn't suit them, look for impartiality and truth, that's called history, the opposite is invention.

@@thm8521 I have looked at many sources of this conflict so I can say with great certainty: The conscripts showed little fierce resistance. You keep saying Argentina beat England but i do not know what you mean as Argentina did not beat England. The skyhawks and super etendards were not old as they were still being used by many other countries such as america and france respectively. In war everywhere is a warzone, the reason for the belgrano's destruction was because it was deemed a threat. recently an officer on the ship has said the belgrano was planning too attack the british task force so i am very happy it was sunk. stop being salty you lost at you're own game and argentina has been crippled for decades because of it. War was forced on the UK and we reacted accordingly. Please get a hobby

@@amanaujla3 It is clear and evident that the "many resources" that you wear do not go beyond the area of your Westminster. The conscripts beat up the Elite paratroopers on Mount Lodgon and other places, they were teenagers with days of training but a lot of courage, they put the subtitles on KZbin and watch the testimonies of the Argentines, be impartial and everyone listens to the voices, because As I told you, the UK government is not going to talk about or recognize something that will humiliate it in front of the world, that's why they tell, as in the video on this page, very partial and concise information, because it's not convenient for them to talk about the losses they had. With respect to the planes, they would have to find out more and better... the Americans did not use Etendard and Skywhacks, only economically poor countries like Argentina had them, unlike the Harriers and faced with the last generation missiles, the Argentine planes were in a great disadvantage to the point of having to fly behind the agus in heroic acts to avoid being detected. This is the truth and you're going to hear it if you look outside the Westminester books that don't want to tell you what doesn't suit them but it happened. The 18-year-old men beat up the elite paratroopers of Queen Elizabeth, Argentina was alone against all power and NATO and yet they gave a better fight to the country that has the undefeated championship in colonialism. I would like to see and know if Argentina would occupy an island next to England if England would not claim the territory as its own...
