It’s a great method. Really easy to do and precise. If you are worried about bending stanchions you be got bigger issues . People like you always do the “ what if this happens what if that happens …” then it will be disaster as a way to try to demonstrate your own superior knowledge. The fact is I’ve been successfully tying fenders like this for at least 40 years and I’ve never yet once seen a stanchion get bent but we see comments like yours “ what if the tide suddenly goes out ? What if it bursts into flames ? “ all the time. It never happens

That is very temporary. You leave it there at the water to penetrate the toe rail the leverage of the height of the life line post will eventually loosen the bedding on the base and allow the toe rail to be contaminated by water and rot it.the proper way is to tie it to the bottom not the top.

My thoughts exactly

Yup.

If it wasnt temporary then id attach the fenders to the dock not the boat ,hence they would always be the ideal height regardless of anything !

@@goonernumone8444 - Well, sure. You could do that if there is something on the dock to tie to. But standard practice (and best practice in most situations) is to tie fenders to the base of the stanchion.

Thank you?! If you needed this, you should do a FULL course on sailing. Better learn sailing in a dinghy, when you are a 5 year old. That way you will not become a retarded dinosaur. No offense, but your "thank you" is frightening. WHO DOES NOT DO IT THIS WAY? Grr grrr grr! Beeep!

My boat does have rails

Clever using the upright so the hitch cannot slide along the rail,i noticed this on your last knot upload ( finished with a half hitch) i had all my knots sorted before i ciuld drive but when i past my test ( 88) id tow our boat to Putney & spend days on the thames, was only a Searider with a 50hp Evinrude, boat plate said 55hp max but unless you had a completely full tank ( well you do the first 30 mins) but as the fuel got below half it would slap from one side of the Vee to the other, was clever how the bottom of the hull would flood for stability that drained on plane but a 55 hp rating was to much for such a light boat with a deep Vee- - great memories but ive seen some knots used that was "different " Lets say, then you have the experts who will always have a fault in whats done despite it being right, but this or not ideal as after 4 months 🤣, oh you gotta love the Internet 😂

there's no way this guy sails. anyone who owns a sail boat knows if you tie fenders to your life lines the stanchions will eventually bend. there is a cleat amidships, and at the stern and bow, they are what you use. or use a winch if you have to. and this fool is even using the TOP line. dude, you have given so much wrong and marginal info you should get off youtube.

This method is absolutely superb and has been used effectively for many many years. If you need to tie fenders off to the midships cleat, you must be doing something seriously wrong with your docking dude I am so well practiced so qualified so experienced. I absolutely deserve my place here.
