Coming from the east coast of Canada and growing up a fan of Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, I immediately recognized “Sheik Ali” as Big Stephen Petitpas.

International Wrestling still had a few names at this point but the hayday was truly 1985 into 86 . In fact , i believe it truly peaked when Strong fought the butcher . The shoot for that one was the best

Hooray, another full episode! Cool to see Toronto staple Ron Hutchison doing job duty here, not to mention a Richard Charland/Sheik Ali tag match! Thanks for continuing to bring the goods, Roy!

I had to add the Hutchinson match, with him and I both being CAC

Excellent! I shall be looking forward to it! I'm a humongous fan of the old IW Montreal promotion and am so happy to see these rare TV shows! :) Now, if someone could unearth any of the early 80s studio shows with Edouard Carpentier and Guy Hauray on commentary, I'll die a happy man!

@@KaijuEigaMan88 I know Canada isn't my strong point, have you reached out to Ron Hutchinson or Bertrand Hebert?
@KaijuEigaMan885 жыл бұрын
I have actually spoken with Bertrand Hebert and helped supply some material for the Golden Age of Quebec Wrestling Vol. 4 DVD. I haven't talked with Ron Hutchison yet, though. I'd love to talk to him. I'm planning on ordering Ron's autobiography from Crowbar Press soon. I'm curious if he did any other shots for Montreal besides this match?

Richard Charland and Stephen "Sheik Ali' Petipas should have been bigger stars. Both these guys were great in the ring. Toshiaki Kawada would become one of the all-time greats for All Japan Wrestling. Like several wrestlers before and after, he worked in North America. Ridiculous that Dan Kroffat was never allowed to do an interview in French. I don't think I ever saw one.

Kawada on excursion. Heard he absolutely hated his North American run and rarely likes to talk about it.

Hutchinson was a hell of a good worker. I'm thinking he must of felt that pile driver the next day.

Richard Charland was pure bad ass. A great wrestler whom I always enjoyed watching.

If we're looking to date this show, I would assume that this episode aired the weekend of October 17, 1986 (probably on 10/18 or 10/19), because the International Tag Team Titles changed hands at the previous Paul-Sauve Arena card on 10/13/86. The promos on this show are pushing a rematch between Sheik Ali & Richard Charland and Tom Zenk & Dan Kroffat for the 10/27/86 PSA show.

I differ, he was great to watch. A hard working heel whose opponents could expect not a shred of mercy once he had them beaten.
