The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the kzbin.infoUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book kzbin.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.

I had Maxwell for 14 years. What a crazy thing he was. So funny with his big eyes and floppy ears. He loved to play keep away with his squeaky rubber hamburger and he loved to race me around the yard and he absolutely loved to go swimming but hated taking a bath. He was the best dog ever and after him being gone more than 15 years, I think about him every single day.

After I got my 1st Daschund, I fell in love with the breed. Now, 30yrs and 3 daschunds later; I'm still raising them. I never thought I'd ever meet anyone or, anything as stubborn as I am; boy was I wrong. Lol. They can be stubborn but, they are also very loyal and; they love with a fierceness. When you get a daschund, it's like adding another member to your family rather than; just getting another dog. In my opinion, you can never go wrong when you chose to get a Daschund.

When it came to stubborness, they wrote the book. The mom and one of two daughters had a mind of their own. The two sisters didn't know what stubborness was. But they were all very loving and playful. All but one experienced back problems ranging from mild to one severe case. But with vet care and chiropractic they did well. They lived from 15 to past 18 years. I miss them terribly. I hope God has a kennel up there! BTW, the breed is pronounced doxhoont!

I have a smooth hair standard black & tan. Loud, strong, food-oriented. Loves to burrow. My first doxie. He is a sweet fellow 4 yr now that just loves people and other dogs. Great temperament. One thing I never hear mentioned is how food-oriented they are. My doxie will eat (and when a puppy, chew) anything. So just like with a human baby, I always had to be careful to make sure things didn't fall to the floor and put the little waste-paper basket out of reach. We live in a wooded area, and there have been times going for walks that he'll snatch up a dead mouse that an owl dropped, a road kill wood frog etc. They are very possessive of food...will lock their strong jaws and it's a fight to get food out of their mouths. My dog is also in the habit of chewing his bed and blanket and used to swallow pieces of blanket (the soft, fleece types. Fortunately everything always came out the other end, but due to their elongated digestive systems, it's easier to get blockages which can be fatal. I was also surprised as a first time doxie parent how powerful and strong they are. Very muscular on the front end. So even though small, you need to work on walking on a leash or they'll pull you off your feet as easily as a larger breed. I didn't realize how much the natural inclination to burrow. He definitely wants to be in the bed under the covers. Once I got him started sleeping next to the bed on a large pillow, he still insists on being covered with a blankie. I think having short hair, he may be cold, too. Another thing I never heard in videos is that some doxies don't like water---don't like getting wet. Weird for a hunting breed. If I took him out to potty as a puppy, he stayed on the porch and didn't want to go out. He still doesn't like to get a bath. My dog is very engaging and loves to play games. He is the one who taught me to play keep away! He's a very fun and funny little guy.

Dachshunds are bred to have a very strong hunting instinct. They will track and follow prey for a long time and distance if they get the chance, for days if possible. They are also great escape artists and will take any chance to bolt off if they find a hole in a fence or a gap in a doorway. When tracking, they will typically not respond if called back. They run a great risk of being hit by a car because of the small size combined with utter fearlessness. This can be real problem and should not be overlooked for anyone looking to buy a dachshund. Excercise should help keep them less escape-willing, but when they do get a good scent, they can follow it to the moon.

I just got a Dachshund from somebody I work with. I have 3 cats, and have gad the dog and the cats seperated since I got the dog. How do I get the dog to not chase and growl at the cats? Also I had a maintenance man at my house the other day and my dog bit the guy on the leg. I'm not sure he was being protective of me or what. This is my first Dachshund and my first indoor dog. I'm feeling very overwhelmed with him and wonder if I should get rid of him.....help!!
@billmc73516 жыл бұрын
I have a cat and a doxie. The cat chasing will probably last quite awhile until they get each other sorted out. Especially if your dog is a male and it sounds like he is since he bit the maintenance man. I would think it would be helpful to walk this dog and meet people. Keep him on a short leash and walk 1 - 2 miles a day. Burn off some of his energy and then try to work with him with basic commands to teach him to listen to you.

I didn't know anything about this breed! I got one when I was dating my husband. It was his dream dog but I had him inside my apartment as a pup since he couldn't have it at the time at his house. He destroyed everything 😅🤣 even a metal lighter! He also tried to bite my cats which where curious of what he was. I have 2 bunnies, both trained and do tricks and never did I get to atleast potty train Slinky (yes that's his name). After marriage and living together with my husband I always wondered about the breed and came to KZbin and that's where I found out why my dog was like he is. I love him to death! He gets lots and lots of chew toys and I replace them alot. Also I let him dig and follow natural instincts. He's no longer inside without supervision lol. I don't regret getting this type of dog. They're wonderful and unpredictable which is what I love!

How about: 1. Whine for no reason 2. Constantly begging for food. 3. Tries to do the opposite of what you ask for no apparent reason. 4. Practice digging...on your armpit, your head, anything to paw away at you. 5. Won't come at all when you call. 6. If you do manage to get them to come and they have to walk through a beam of warm sunlight, they aren't coming. They will stop, sit down and stop responding and eventually sleep in the sunlight. 7. Will destroy that damn squeaky toy to get the squeaky thing out of it then chew it to death. Lots of time ,growling at it while doing so. 8. Flip the dog on it's back and hold them in the crook of your arm to get them to go to sleep within 2 minutes. 9. Ringing the doorbell while the dog is sleeping warm and comfortable in your arm means barking from that position in hopes you might carry the dog to the door so it can continue barking from the comfort of you holding it. 10. Opening the front door, looking scared and running away from the front door will get the dog to sprints past you on the way to safety under the bed. If you're bigger than the dog and it scared you, better not take any chances. Everyone for themselves.

Tushar S if you socialize your Dachshund at a young age, just like a Labrador needs, you will have a friendly Doxie. If you keep it only to yourself, you will have a dog afraid of the outside world. Dachshunds need to be constantly socializing from four months (three months even in my humble knowledge) til their end. Dog parks, walks and puppy play groups are the key, just like a Labrador Retriever. ☺️

The way you carry your dachshund can also destroy their backs. Support the lower back by putting an arm under their hips. Imagine how it would feel if someone held you by the chest and let your lower half just dangle. My dachshunds were also easy to train. I thought my long-haired would be reserved but she's anything but that. lol She was more aggressive than my male. My male never had issues with marking indoors unless something got into the house. Once it was removed, (he would help hunt for it lol), he no longer kept that behavior. They are very intelligent as well, so you must be respectful or they'll disrespect you. And idk why the way she's pronouncing Dachshund as Dash-hound is killing me.

Sicarri Zelot ! They are amazing. I rescued a wire haired one and he's just the sweetest and funniest little guy.
