BEST. MODULE. EVER. Was so glad they put in the work to capture the original aesthetic and recreate it in the newly added material by GG.

I'm personally not as much a fan of the original (just personal preferences), but I will agree that the newly added material fits the aesthetic *very* well, and I can appreciate excellent work like that, and I'm glad to see that it's carried on in this series. So far, OAR has been an *outstanding* effort, and I'm looking forward to what they do with ToEE (which is slightly more up my alley).

@@rpgcrawler Same here, TOEE ranks just as high in my estimation as E2BP. Both are Gygaxian masterpieces.

It’s a very appropriate choice for Goodman Games- they make their love for Appendix N known quite a bit.

I've run the original AD&D version at a convention, and I've run the Goodman Games update last year in my 5e Campaign. I had a blast both times. Nice review!

Thanks, and it's good to hear from people who've run both versions. Sometimes, while I'm familiar with an older module, I never got a chance to run it, so I've no basis of comparison.

@@rpgcrawler I usually run 5e these days, but once a year at a local convention I run a classic AD&D adventure. I've run Tomb of Horrors, Barrier Peaks, and Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan. The local convention was paused due to COVID this year, but I look forward to running another classic next year.

Great Module. We had a load of fun with this one. Our group played this in three or four sessions and had a great time. There are a lot of repetitive empty rooms. The artwork is helpful and evocative. There was a system for the medieval minded characters to try to figure out the devices that they technically wouldn't have any grasp of. I enjoyed playing and Dming the service deck which was like 4' high? Fifth edition conversions are generally unlike their original. I like the idea of a wilderness map. Nice ecological mix with the world the players live in. Perhaps presaging an environmental disaster (bunnies in Australia) from this ship crash. I liked wandering around with laser guns and explosives for an adventure or two. Not much different from having a Javelin of Lightning or Staff of fireballs or Frost wand. Expedition can plug in to any adventure stream.

My crews always seemed to have a great time careening through this (despite its potential lethality usually coming into play) and I always really liked running it. Fleshed it out a bit over the years too. Have not run it in a really long time, going to have to weasel it in as a possible excursion in my new world build. Great reminder here.

Yeah it doesn't look like they do anything in the way of reprints, so 2ndary market is about the only way to pick them up anymore, sadly.

I like the flip thru format. Great review video. As usual, I enjoy hearing your well considered thoughts. You have given me reason to consider picking up this book, maybe just to read.

Thanks, and yeah I'm going to try to do a few more of this format, though of course on some products the format just doesn't work as well. I have to admit, I'm kind of looking forward to the next one they do. They'll be converting The Lost City, and it's due to be released I think in June some time.

Thanks for the review. I was hoping to get some feedback from you and ask if you could only purchase 1 of these OAR,which would it be

What >I< would purchase versus other people would purchase are probably going to be different things for different reasons. Sitting here contemplating it, I personally would buy the Temple of Elemental Evil one, mostly because that is the one with the most content that I did not possess a copy of previously, and makes for a very solid long term investment. Following that, I'd say Castle Amber simply because I enjoy that sort of setting. They're all very solid products though.

Excellent! Is it possible to chain all three books together as one long campaign?
@rpgcrawler

Maybe theoretically with a bit of work. I haven't done the experience calculations, but they are suited for different level ranges. On a general rule of thumb, I think that there may be a bit much in terms of xp if characters do everything in each book to do that, plus the stories are really pretty far apart. Still, I guess it could be done with some effort.

Too much at that price when I already have the original. Why do I want reprints. I would love just the updated module and the history of the module etc. Leave out the reprints

It's a really conversion, most modules really are. This one is even easier than most since so much of it is unique to this adventure.
