I think Shadow of Mordor also deserves a mention. I really enjoyed how the archery integrated into the rest of the combat. For example you could stealthy shadow strike from victim to victim, pin fleeing enemies to the floor, or land some quick headshots on some otherwise annoying opponents in the midst of battle. I also think the progression is really great, and while one can't diversify into different play styles, each level grants an awesome new ability that really changes how the games plays and encourages you to work for the next one. That aside just gotta say I love your videos, and your accent is just magnificent. Keep up the good work!

Dragons Dogma is a solid 8/10 for an RPG. Its weakness is fairly obvious. Very minimal character development as far as story goes. The storyline is very vanilla. Immersion also is very average. Somewhat small world to journey. But overall gameplay is AMAZING. Combat system is definitely high on my preference. The BOSS fights and even some enemies are intuitive and very engaging. This game can definitely reach legendary status like Demon Souls Dragon Age Origins and even a game like the WITCHER 3 if they can keep all the positives about this game and improve on their story line and character development. Also a bigger world and enemy roster will definitely help tremendously.

I absolutely love Dragon's Dogma. It's definitely a game that's rough around the edges, but what it does well makes it more than worth dealing with the rough edges. Sonic Badass 2000 I wouldn’t say that the story is necessarily bad. There are some bad spots, and it feels cliched for the most part, but there’s a reason cliches exist. It’s because they have proven to work in the past. One thing I will say though. Is that most of the characters in the game are annoying, unlikeable, and feel useless. This detracts a lot from the story in my opinion.

"The wind is pushing meeee" is basically playing in a loop in my head and while Elden Ring has great world building, level design and atmosphere, gameplay-wise it's a significant step back from their own Sekiro and far away from the meanwhile eleven years old Dragon's Dogma. When I imagine what post DMC5 Dragon's Dogma 2 could be, I get goosebumbs from exitement. hands down dragon's dogma. Assassin vocation, Augments: Blodlust, Autonomy, Clout, Ferocity, and 2 other augments (whichever you prefer). Also paired with with talisman buffs and blast arrows... one of the most damaging builds and op ranged character in the game. @@Borkomora i agree and disagree, with assassin augments, and that one that makes your backplid black thing do triple damage and nullifies fall damage. Yes it is powerful, but assassin one handed sword play (free off han/ no bow) is amazing, the synergies you coul get with combining fighter skills and warrior augments. But nonetheless, all of the vocations are cool. i recently played a magic only run, and man... the sorceror is op as fuck. If you know the attack animations/patters of the enemies (2k hours in), you could literally no hit the game. Lastly, if you were a magic archer, you could cast the dagger/magic buff 4x on the character and bombard whatever you're fighting with sixfol/tenfold magic bolt/arrows, plus the talisman buffs... Fuck I love this GAME!!!!

he really gave bannerlord a bad impression given how there are probably the most different and still complete useable ranged options yes it's no fantasy but I don't know any game where you have the option between bow, crossbow and different types of throwing weapons that you can really specialize on ranged is mostly focused on bow only and throwing or (mini) crossbows are "always" just sidearms or even kind of gimmicks only just look at skyrim for example crossbows do exist but they are utter trash only downside with bannerlord is that throwing weapons are badly balanced, javelins have the highest damage, highest projectile speed AND highest stack size, at least they could give you more ammo for the knives etc. because it makes axes and knives completely useless but I guess they add more options later sorry for the textwall xD

I miss magik archer every time I pick up a bow or see dual daggers. Definitely Dragon's Dogma for best ranged gameplay I've played. Warframe kinda has a rewarding archery system going for it, but most of the time it goes unnoticed due to the game's fast paced style. It's simply player skill based once you have the weapons mods in order. Nothing fancy without using the archery frame Ivara who has a special bow and special arrows, along with the ability to control a projectile during flight. Mostly useless due to the game's fast pace, but fun to stick a noise arrow on a trap and watch enemies walk right into a laser beam while playing solo. On a different note though, do throwing weapons fall into this section of ranged combat or the magic side since they can mechanically be similar to lobbing fireballs down the corridor?

I kind of really dig the idea of a comparably realistic ranged combat for rpgs would love a game where hitting enemies in the knee (reference intended yes) would cripple their movement and you would have to aim for weak spots in their armor or it would be necessary to have a really strong longbow or crossbow to penetrate thicker armor maybe have different strengths and weaknesses for each weapon type, like a compact and conceivable mini crossbow which is only effective on closer range and against very lightly armored enemies etc. all this in a kind of stealth oriented arpg would be really nice

I don't know if you have a PS4, but the Archery in Ghost of Tsushima is spectacular. There are two bows, the Long Bow and the Short Bow. The impact of arrows is quite satisfying. It's a blend of realism and more fantastical elements, though there is no magic. A few different types of arrows give your shots variety You can't even hold a fully drawn bow for too long, or the arrow will fire automatically, because a person can't hold a full draw for very long. And there's a greater arch in your shot the further your target is.

The developers of games like Mount and Blade and Skyrim put so much time, effort and money into making their games properly modabble and building up a community of modders that it is a big reason why a LOT of people buy those games, which adds to their value. I think considering mods in this ranged combat video is perfectly fair in light of this.

That is the dumbest take I've ever heard in this topic. No, other people fixing your game with hard, free-of-charge labour is not equivalent to you making the game good in the first place. Not everyone uses mods, mods are hard to use, easy to mess up compatibility, take hours and hours and hours of research to setup properly, may still not work because nobody installs just one mod. People install hundreds of them. It's not part of the game and it CERTAINLY does not deserve a credit when we talk about the base game.

@S.A.O.D.A 4 жыл бұрын
@@DravicPL Makes sense that it's the dumbest take you've heard I guess, seeing as evidently you don't read your own posts. I never said it was equivalent. Not everyone extracts all the value from a product, most mods are literally 2 or so clicks to install, and frankly, that's irrelevant (not to mention wrong, there are many mods that people play on their own, like M&B mods, Enderal, etc) anyway. It's there, it may work, and it's value created by modders, facilitated by devs. Games can also be platforms for creations, and being a platform adds value. Nobody gives KZbin credit for creating videos, but they do say how good of a site it is because of the content it allows to be made and shared. In that way it creates value. My argument is literally that the base game shouldn't be the only thing considered (when dev time and work has made it so that there is more value being made), and your counterpoint is "hurr-durr we are talking about the base game". Get your head out of your ass. It doesn't really matter what you think, because it's a self evident truth. Whether it was made by a developer or a modder, game design is game design, and should be shown off or considered in videos like these. Of course the credit should go to the modder, but the base game will also receive a note as being a facilitator. This is like saying CS 1.6 should never be in a video comparing first person shooters because it's a mod. Completely asanine.
@DravicPL
@DravicPL 4 жыл бұрын
@@S.A.O.D.A CS 1.6 just like DOTA or AutoChess started as mods/custom game modes. That's not the same thing as augmenting core gameplay experience, not even close. You cannot guarantee with mods that they will work for everyone considering each person has a different modlist. And we're talking specifically about archery here, not the game in general, as self-evident when C4G said he included Odyssey here for archery gameplay elements alone. You can however guarantee that the core gameplay experience will work for every player because otherwise you can refund the game and if it goes really badly, there are either legal ways to go about it. There's a service being provided and a product associated with it. "Skyrim should get credit because mods make archery better" is a terrible take in the context of determining which game has the best archery experience, guaranteed.

@@volkerputtmann5443 Lmao. I don't know what to tell you dude. Moddability is a gigantic selling point if done correctly. Just based on cold hard cash, do you think every developer, or even like 10%, wouldn't do it if it were easy? There's a clear monetary incentive for a lot of games (especially RPGs) to do it, but it's difficult to get right as you have to build your engine from the ground up to do it. Most developers barely even change the engine they start with, much less create something as complex as a creation kit.

Yeah, because waving your bow around like a moron is totally realistic. Apparently neither you nor the developers ever drawn a real bow in life! Even weak people drawing a bow the first time don't wave this much, if at all. Aiming at the same point again, is what makes archery hard. Waving around is stupid and unrealistic. It just doesn't happen!

@@daktaklakpak5059 waving represents the lack of strength of character to draw the bow fully and hold it, try drawing real 90 pound warbow. You most likely wouldn't be able to draw it, let alone hold it. What you are talking about is modern bows with relatively low poundage, hence they are easier to draw and hold even for "weak people" as you say. The game gives satisfying feeling of progressing in archery as your character becomes stronger and more get used to drawing warbows.

While DD is great for ranged combat I think when you hit the magic point in archery you basically go into cheat mode. Shots lock on and circle back while raining down like God's wrath. Truly fun and I love the game, have owned it on console and pc and stand behind how good it is but for me ranged combat goes to Skyrim all the way. As anyone who has played Skyrim can agree that the vanilla was just a great starting point for the modding community to improve upon vastly, this goes for the archery as well. Out of the box tho ranged game play was and still is the best of any title I have played. If you suck with a bow you die, there isnt anything to hide behind if you go with a pure archery build. Add in great perk overhauls like Vokrii or Ordinator and then you got yourself one heck of an upgrade to the ranged mechanic.I dont like the slowdown time effect, or kill cam, and never have in any game so if you take those out I really feel like taking a bow out in Skyrim to hunt some elk, or bad guy, would be almost equal to real life, especially a properly modded game.

I was waiting to ream the guy out if dragons dogma wasn't on the list but now I've got some more games to download and install to try out. Awesome! I'm still looking for that risk vs reward bow build system that'll set the pace of any game play, that's weighty in knocking its arrows and carries that NPC demeanor into that fight or flight mechanic. Having that immersion on arrows affected by the laws of physics with the addition to skills and utility on actions based upon it all wrapped in a bow with such leveling rarity loot system like borderlands 3. Heck might as well throw in some PvP aspect into it and make a gamers virtual dream a game worth the money. I mean I've played enough rpg, sandbox, MMO games to really understand what I'm looking for in a game that understands bow mechanics and hopefully the upcoming title ashes of creation hits the mark on the combat system for ranged playstyle gamers. *crosses fingers*

For what is trying to do (which is aim for realism) is pretty good. But too much realism doesn't necessarily means the gameplay is more fun, quite the opposite. It's kinda hard to criticize realistic features. Kingdom Come is definitely a very unique game, it's hard to compare it to anything actually.

Honestly you have to determine whether a games is in first person or third person. Turn based or action. My opinion the best RPG overall that has beat range is Kingdom Come Deliverance. Because it’s realistic, and you have to be really good at it to use it consistently.

Most of these don't even come close to Kingdome come Deliverance archery for me. The player strength matters to use heavier bows. And you cannot draw and hold for a long time. It had one of the best immersive archery in a game. And also one of the most satisfying when you master it. It made hunting rabbits fun. I don't think any other game other than hunting games gave me so much fun hunting in a forest. A headshot means you are gonna one shot the enemy. A long range sneaky headshot doesn't give you a cool sound effect like in skyrim but oh boy you are gonna love it and even feel proud sometimes.

My issue with bows is that if they aren't OP with 1-2 hit head shot skills then they feel like trash. If they do about as much as a melee weapon, then they feel pointless, unless you want to climb somewhere to cheese a fight. And if they are OP I feel like I'm basically hitting the skip button on every fight, so I end up not using them. In a fantasy setting I almost always do magic instead. Because its a fantasy world where magic exists. Why would you not?... Same reason I avoid playing humans if possible.

Dragon's Dogma is great, but for me Monster Hunter is in another level, there are 14 weapons in monster hunter, and each of them is equally rewarding, and since we are talking about the bow, in Monster Hunter it feels like you are dancing with your prey, and when you master it and have the proper build, you don't even get hit by any attack while having one of the highest DPS of the game.
