Fun Fact: I think I remember seeing on some Reddit post that the album (Hawaii: Part ii) was released on 12/12/12, when everyone thought the world was gonna end, so this would have been the last album ever released/listened to.

@@rileytheirrelevant-iconmen not necessarily, I see it more as a representation of the end of the journey as it's summed up in dream sweet, where the protagonist in his dying mind is lured by a divine goddess (likely taking the form of his dead lover) up towards "kingdom come", only to find out it was a mirage, the goddess was a siren, and he will be atoning "above a shining star" for eternity this is just my interpretation of course, you could see the whole album a number of ways

Especially if you have a good ear for composition, this album is a masterpiece! Recurring melodies, each voice is a part of a different character, it's beautiful. Takes many listens to get the subtlety of many wonderful technical/editing flairs, and the music builds the story!!
@superchilledgrease
@superchilledgrease 5 ай бұрын
@@jasperk5562 i agree with the story part!! my theory is that song 1.a man called simon travels to hawaii because he feels depressed and wants to cheer himself up. 2. this is about him meeting a girl called stella and they got along very well. 3. this is stella's POV of meeting simon. 4. they confess their love for eachother and they dance together while the sun falls down. 5. they go out on a picnic for a little date , simon has (schizophrenic) visions of someone trying to murder him. he's hungry and he no longer sees the "murderer" he grabs a rock and murders a bunny but that was his girlfriend. 6. is stella ascending to heaven, simon mourning her loss and the cops finding out what happened. 7. he pleads insanity thinking it would get him out of this but instead he gets electroshock therapy and makes him way more insane than he actually is. 8. him is getting sent to a mental hospital and he gets a vision that he is in some sort of video game to get him away from what previously happened. 9. is him regretting what he did and thinking what he would do if he had a time machine. 10. is him sailing out to sea but he runs out of food and the boat eventually sinks then he dies. 11. is him dreaming for exactly 7 minutes before going to heaven. he looks up to his lover up in the clouds and he reunites with her. truly a bittersweet ending. but there is actually a hidden track : candle on the water. this was a gift for 2 fans who pased away. i believe it is stella's vision of the 10th song. she wants to guide her lover to safety even after what he did to her. she knows he regrets it. the lyrics "ill be your candle on the water" what she means by "candle on the water" is actually her guiding him to safety. a source of light. i don't entirely believe that variations and hawaii pt ii are connected, but there could be a possibilty.

This album was released in ghe late 2010's if i remember correctly. It's a concept album about... I forget but it's a darker concept. Something to do with a murder, mental health and heaven. This album is a love it or hate it album. From what I remember the artist is not the best person, to put it lightly. There is a great video essay by youtube channel Fort Collins Productions explaining the concept btw. Definitely worth checking out, this album is a trip and a half.
@lautreamontg

So I went to look into the accusation you mentioned and found that the artist in question (Joe Hawley) seems to have persistent and deep mental health issues that are being exacerbated by a fanbase that doesn't seem to understand personal boundaries or appropriate behavior with someone suffering from profound mental illness. Instead of saying the person isn't a good person, or delve deeply into whether or not the unverified acts he did are real, confabulations of his illness, or some combination of both, it would be best to do what his bandmates say, and leave him alone. Interacting with him does not help him, and it doesn't right any possible wrongs he may have committed. I felt moved to post this because it seems like the fanbase cannot stop going on to his social media accounts to ask him about the allegations, and it's clear from those social media accounts that he's not well at all or even able to engage with them in a rational way. Really sad because this video Geebz posted was my first exposure to his work, and it's beautiful and luminous. It's sad that he seems absolutely lost right now.

@@lautreamontg he was a member of Tally Hall before this, if I remember correctly. He got kicked out or something. Some kind of drama. But yeah, he seems to be a hated guy for what he did (I honestly don't remember what) Things like Schizophrenia, Dementia etc. are always tough cause they inherently change the person and if they make bad choices its an incredibly complex moral dilemma of "is it their fault/are they accountable" and it just sucks for everyone at the end of the day, especially the person with the mental health in question. They need to be taken care of, but its not always safe for others to do so. Not saying he has Schizophrenia specifically, just saying his mental health got in the way big time, and yeah the constant hatred and pestering for a response is not helping. If we all leave him alone, he might get better but maybe not. Time will tell. I wish him the best.

@@V.F.D.DaleSalvador He didn't get kicked out or wathever, he was pretty much fine back then. Info This is from the album "hawaii Part II." The album is made by members from tally hall (amazing band) and other assorted people. The album follows a man with schizophrenia through his decaying memories of a loved one and the realization of his sins (which is referenced at the end of this song). The song "the mind electric" shows the court trial (for unknown charges) of the man, which ends in him being sent to "the infirmary," which is an insane asylum. After the court trial bit of the song, the man begins electro shock therapy, (a way to treat mental illnesses) the song descends into glitchy static chaos and bits of other songs mashed together into an oddly sweet cacophony. At the end of the cacophony, the man awakes from his electro shock therapy and the ending plays. At the end of "Dream Sweat in Sea Major," the man dies. Following the "we will be attoning a past eternal through a past above a blinding star" after the bit plays the final ending plays, "Bye, hi. sigh, hawaii. We never meant to part, sublime thy art. one light, higher than the sun. invisible to some, until it's time. This line refrences his punishment and realization of his sins and crimes. "One light higher than the sun" refrences God (or some higher being) and "invisible to some until its time" refrences the often realization of one's crimes/wrong doings right before death as they realize they may or may had been a good person. Amazing album, listen to it. EDIT: After listening again, the song "murder" in the album implies he killed someone (in the actual musical the song is based on, a girl is murdered). This song also has the iconic line. "All, for nothing at all..... All. for nothing at all."

Background info in the story of the song: the album start on a nearly exact copy of the opening of the song which describes the singers loneliness. However over the album he falls in love with a woman in Hawaii. The woman is killed however, and the singer is framed for her murder. The album ends with him leaving the psych ward he was kept in for years, as he goes out to sea. He sings this ballad before eventually taking his own life so he can, hopefully, be reunited with his long dead lover. The album delves a lot into literary metaphors, allusions, and pentameter to tell a story that people are still trying to fully explain after the 10+ years the album has been out. The lead singer, and writer of the album Joe Hawley is assumed to be mentally unwell after various incident in the previous years. If you want to hear more of his songs. This is the *_second to last_* track on the Hawaii: Part II album, under the group name Miracle Musical. (There isn't a part I.) The first track on the album sounds very similar to this one and introduces some of the musical ideas that this track fully expands on. Is there a reverse of "reprise"? This track is that. So these two are bookends to the album. Sort of. I think there might be a different version of this track which actually "ends" satisfyingly; but as you noticed, the end of this version of the track is this growing synth beat, and it simply cuts off. That is because "Dream Sweet" is meant to transition directly into "Variations on a Cloud", which is the *_actual last song_* on the album, and which contains musical allusions to earlier tracks throughout the album and also to tracks in the artists' other repertoire under the group Tally Hall.

I respectfully act as a hater, volunteering myself to have part of my mind sacrificed by being closed off from this pretentious hoobly-haw. I mean, you don’t even have to tell me you go out looking for goose-feather stockings if you listen to this type of music.

You should definetly listen to the entire album. You will notice that its all molded together, all culminating in this final song.
