I haven't bought a new game since GTA5. With the blatant disrespect coming out of gaming companies I probably won't be breaking my streak any time soon. But this is testament to the fact that when you don't give the people what they want, they will make it for themselves. We got ass for a sequel trilogy at Star Wars, so the fans have provided better stories and what-ifs through fanfic. The games industry is focused solely on making sure we have ugly trans quadriplegics in all of our shooters, and now modders have become the digital vigilantes dealing out the justice that should have been done by developers.

honestly this is probably the most accurate remake I've ever seen so far, the camerawork, the physics even the whoosh sounds when you pass by close of a object but game development is really hard, to push coop, multiplayer and everthing else in 3 months til the year ends? With 2 people? Not a chance, they're probably gonna release a very barebones version of this that just allows you to freeroam or something (well they did kinda said it's a alpha 5:22 so i dunno, to me a release is a release like final)

what makes it a remake? did the modder make a whole new city and story with added cut content? because from what i can tell its just a fan remaster, a remake changes the game completely making the story play out very differently and level design vastly different. where a remaster is 1:1 with updated visuals added cut content and bug fixes

a remake is something that's remade a remaster is something that was already made but its content was touched up and mastered for modern tech rather than older tech (i.e. exported at a higher resolution in the case of movies, game textures, etc.)

I'm from the future and we will have NFS Most Wanted Online. There will be a mode where drivers can play as undercover police. Think of it as GTA but stealing car/parts and tuning cars & racing. The graphics will be like Forza Horizon 5 but much better looking. Weather mode added to the game and cars can take damage. It will be much more realistic like a real life experienced game.

I hope they open-source what they can from this, such that if it were to get cease and desisted, at least what work they did that could be considered original/unrelated would be available for other developers to take it on if they want to. That is if the most unfortunate, greedy corporation things happen. While it might not be quite the same, I'd love to see more people take on something like this, but still avoid everything that could cause potential issues. That is to say, if corps continue to take these projects down, then I'd like to see passionate devs make projects in the "spirit" of said games, rather than full remakes. Again, that's only if these issues were to continue happening. I'd love to work on projects like these, but I just suck at art assets. XD

I think one of the issues for remastering old NFS games is the licenses (looking at you, Toyota). Hot Pursuit Remastered had to cut a few cars because of it. Another thing, an advantage that modders and fangame makers do have is time and freedom. You can take your time doing stuff without the need of a set deadline that will affect so many things, aside from money, had it not been met.

I'm friends with apfelbaum and I've gotten an early sneak peek at the game and I can confirm that it feels pretty much exactly like UG2 did (which makes sense, it's based off of decompilations of Black Box's NFS games, so the calculations for the tire and suspension physics are identical, but things that are handled by rigidbodies such as wall collisions likely will feel different and is a problem we are still facing in Core X Most Wanted too)

Even if it's free i'd absolutely donate 50 quid to devs . I owe ps2 and NFSU2 that i completed for the 5th time now and several years ago i've bought 2x1/5m cinema screen and projector just to enjoy it on the big screen with sound system , if this gets released i won't be able to thank you enough for sending me back in to my earlie 20's (i was 21 when NFSU2 came out) . Race with maximum traffic is priceless , the amount of traffic makes it really challenging and the way you go close to cars and they horn at you and as someone mentioned going near objects you get the woooosh noise is pure gold ! 350Z sound is perfect in NFSU2, with the Gallardo from Forza 2 shares that... is the sound of an old version of the engine (Nissan VQ35 and Audi odd firing v10) that use to be dubbed by a newer engine sound in newer games (VQ37 and even firing one)

ALL I WANT IS DIFFERENT TURBO AND SUPERCHARGER SOUND EFFECTS - with real car guy approval. Turbo setups have different induction noises, blow off valves or "doses/flutter". Superchargers well they can be big blower types too but probably not for this game

I beleive that Underground 2 is listed under "abandonware" now, which means; in theory, you can download it for free without an issue (same thing with Richard Burns Rally). if they release this, and its' free, I see no reason why EA would need to take this down. They're not making money off of it, and they're making the game easier for modern hardware

Hey, Let's be realistic, it's about 2 people trying to make a masterpiece, it WILL NOT take till the end of the year to be perfect. BUT, we as a community can also help, the day the alpha releases we'll be supporting them, telling them bugs, sfx problems and we can even start helping them with the coding so they don't feel alone. I'm worried because, passion doesn't last, I saw that happen before not just with nfs so we need to stay supportive so when the very day the passion stops fueling them, we'd be there and say "hey man, dw about it, you already took this too far, you deserve a rest, this masterpiece in the works can take a break" Remember, all of this is assuming EA doesn't come in and stops this project
