In part 2A of our series on the RPI Edelbrock carburettor kits, we show you how to install everything we supply for both two and four wheel drive vehicles.

Good info, thanks for posting this online.

I've fitted loads of Performer manifolds, one little tip is to ensure that the valley clamps do not hit the underside of the manifold, this can happen if the block or heads have been skimmed, if you have the problem it will cause the manifold to not seat down on the heads, a little bit of grinding on the clamps will sort the issue out!
@will-prescott3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, guilty as charged of shaving a bit off the manifold to fit the servo non-return valve and not telling you ;) Thanks so much for this one chaps, I'm still some way from actually fitting my engine, but this will be amazingly useful when the time comes to do the plumbing.

lol, no problem. Glad the video will be of help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, on one of the engines it shows a pcv valve fitted to the right rocker cover, with the aftermarket breather filter on the left. I thought pcv valves required full manifold vacuum, whereas you've got it plumbed to the air cleaner.

What is reasson to put one breather to the filter and a mushrom filter in the other like in minute 28:43. In mi car I have both breathers with a T piece to the air filter. Is there any problem in use mushrom filters in both breather?

Really helpful video, thank you. I’m installing my edelbrock carb. In addition to the breather layout you show here, I have an additional breather hole on a t-shaped piece coming out of the back under the valley gasket on the drivers side head. Should I just block this up or does it have to go somewhere too?
@RPIEngineering2 жыл бұрын
This is the breather from the valley on 3.5 litre engines. Later engines did not have it so there is no issue in blocking it.

Excellent video as always. Makes it all very clear, thanks guys. One question; what’s the thread on the servo vacuum takeoff port? It seems to be something unusual.
@RPIEngineering2 жыл бұрын
Its 5/8 UNF
@michaelmaltby62032 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t make that work but obviously need to try harder! Thanks guys.

I find it interesting that you used a circular pattern when torquing the intake bolts, instead of a criss-cross pattern. Is there any reason for using the circular pattern instead of a criss-cross pattern?

It’s the original Buick way

does that manifold make more power than performer manifolds, I have trying to find a dino run I like the brand but i have never see one
@RPIEngineering Жыл бұрын
We haven't done any back to back testing on the dyno, but out on the road the difference is so small you can't tell the two intakes apart.

Hi, could the brake booster hose in the wrong place? It may be more correct to connect it to the intake manifold .
@RPIEngineering2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I';m not sure what you mean. We show the brake servo pipe connection on both intake types being connected to the intake manifold. 15:50 and 21:05

@@RPIEngineering sorry , I used different model (2198 part number) I misinterpreted. In the 2198 model, the hose inlet is at a different point.

@@2510RANGE Its the 2198 intake that you can see in the video at 21:05

I am in the middle of adding the Edelbrock manifold and carb to my Rover 3.5L V8 and this series is perfect! Quick question though. Does it matter which side of the of the coolant pump goes to the thermostat housing? Your video shows opposite to how mine was hooked up.
@RPIEngineering3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sorry but I am not quite sure what you are asking. Can you please re word the question as the coolant pump (water pump) bolts to the engine and feed both banks of the engine via the timing cover ports. If you mean the bypass form the thermostat housing then this just needs to go pre water pump which cab be bottom hose, or a small port on the back of the timing cover as per the video.
@MUDSUX3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I mean the 2 ports on the back of the timing cover. Which one, right or left as you’re standing in front of the engine, goes to the thermostat housing and which one goes under the Edelbrock intake manifold to the heater matrix? My right port goes to the thermostat housing. You have yours plumbed to the left port (@ 14 minutes in your video) Wish I could post a picture of mine.
@RPIEngineering3 жыл бұрын
@@MUDSUX Hi, It does not matter as both are inlets to the water pump. Just make sure that if your using both ports that both ports are actually open as one from factory has a core plug in it.

Why would you go from EFI to a carburettor set up?
@RPIEngineering3 жыл бұрын
Many reasons. Depends on the EFI system installed as to if you would want it or not. EFi is not for everyone, yes its more refined however carb can make just as much power and give great throttle response but maybe has a slight drop in efficiency (depending again on the EFI system installed). EFi can have sensor faults etc which customers in remote parts of the world dont have computers etc to diagnose correctly and want to just be able to see whats going on. - To name but a few reasons.

You don't use flame stops on your breather pipes. Isn't that taking a risk?

Never been an issue for the 20+ years we have done it that way on the V8 and the countless other engines that dont have them. Well spotted though :-)
