Pogba played a box to box midfielder at Juve, as an 8, as a left midfilder in a midfield diamond, who defended and attacked, but had more attacking freedom probably than defending. Vidal, for example, played furthest forward in that midfield, as a 10 you could say, with Pirlo, Pogba and Marchisio, but he defended more than any of them. A POSITION in a formation doesn't define a player's ROLE. There is a big difference between a POSITION and a ROLE in football.

So many superb talents who "underachieved" in the 2010s. Bale, Neymar, Pogba, Hazard... These 4 I mentioned are the ones who had the highest peaks, but still lacked that extra factor to reach the next level and stay more time at the top. Also, Messi and Cristiano really messed up the "Best Player" conversation by making every other great player look just "OK" in comparison.
