I present to you RRPG's Final Fantasy Retrospective!
In this episode, Square Enix returns to the genre of massive multiplayer online role-playing games to bring the next, big game in the Final Fantasy franchise. Being originally conceived by the team who worked on Final Fantasy XI, what was to first arrive for Final Fantasy XIV would continue to attribute to terrible and tragic woes within the Japanese RPG company. However, a young man named Naoki Yoshida would be placed in charge with revitalizing the game into something completely different, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn would be the renaissance that the Final Fantasy IP desperately needed to revive Hironobu Sakaguchi's creation into a new and more, appropriate direction for the modern times. With a successful relaunch came three expansions, and they continue to build upon the previous one where the saga of Final Fantasy XIV remains an important and strong relic for video games and toward Square Enix's competitors! Why did it start off so bad, but successfully gain a second wind to push it as a major game in today's community and industry? Sit back, relax, and RRPG will tell you all about it. This is Episode 11 of RRPG's Final Fantasy Retrospective that covers the entirety of Final Fantasy XIV! Enjoy!

I didn't realize this until someone pointed out to me, but I got my information wrong when it came to the Au Ra being playable in A Realm Reborn. However, they appeared in Heavensward as a playable race and not in A Realm Reborn as I originally thought they were. Thanks to all of those who pointed that out! If I ever did a remaster of this video then I would make that correction!

All the footage in this episode of the retrospective only covers everything from the original Final Fantasy XIV all the way to Version 5.2 during Shadowbringers' current run, right now. Anything that comes out after that is not covered in this video, so I kindly ask you all to refrain from asking me about why I did not cover any future patches and content for this game because you will know exactly why. I may do a follow-up that covers more of this game in the future, but that is still up in the air. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify you all on that! @@one_eyeddd473 Oh no. Your comment did not bother me, but I was trying to bring about my side of the story in regards to Midgardsormr since he's technically still alive. By the way, that part about Midgardsormr I mentioned in Shadowbringers is not really that central to the main story that is at hand, so I think you'll be alright. I apologize if I accidentally spoiled a little bit there since you are currently on Stormblood. I hope you are enjoying the MMO like I have. I need to get back at it at some point since Endwalker just arrived.

I'm only up to the Zodiark part but noticed two mistakes. Ishagard wasn't officially introduced until the first expansion, Heavensward. Until then, it was only mentioned in story patches leading up to that expansion. Secondly, Au Ra weren't added as a playable race until that same expansion. It wasn't part of ARR and the first introduction of that race was again, in the patches leading into that expansion via a story NPC.

I only made mention of Ishgard because it was talked about in the patches for A Realm Reborn even if the region wasn't playable at that time, and I mentioned my mistake on the Au Ra in an update via the description.

I love your retrospectives. Seraphis Thrallwyn was my guild leader in 1.0, so it was cool seeing my character and some people I used to play with way back when. That being said, there were a few errors I wanted to point out. Au ra were not playable until the first expac-HW, although there was a Au ra npc that appeared in 2.x as a bit of a teaser. Whenever you mentioned new jobs being added to each expac, twice you said Gladiators and Paladins, which is essentially the same thing, the later being the job and the former being the class, but no mention of Warriors.When you spoke about the jobs in 1.0, you listed them correctly however. But I do love your videos and look forward to more! I just wanted to bring those up as a long-time XIV player.

Thanks for your support and the errors you pointed out. I honestly thought the Au Ra were first playable in A Realm Reborn from when I was doing research on this episode, but I really don't know how it is I overlooked that. Also, when I explained about the tank jobs that were introduced in new expansions with them being similar to that of Gladiators and Paladins without mentioning Marauders or Warriors, I was just giving example purposes. I know there is a discrepancy between Classes and Jobs in this game, but sometimes I find it hard to think there's a difference between the two terms since other games prior to this one treated both terms as one in the same. Anyway, thanks for your support, and be on the lookout for more episodes in the future!

@@RRPGReviews No worries, my mistake. That makes sense. There isn't really a difference, except that most parties will not let you come as a class and not a job since you are grossly under powered. I think they just added jobs since when Yoshi P took over, he wanted to make the classes more recognizable to the series, and just named them jobs since often in the series it's called the job system. But, I do understand what you mean. As for Au ra, it can be hard to find information for older content since often information is updated when changes are made. We did get new races in 2.0, sort of. In 1.0, miqote were only female and roegadyn and highlander hyur were only male, so in 2.0 the opposite genders were added. I really appreciate that you treat the MMOs FFs the same as the non-MMOs. Many other FF KZbinrs that do similar videos to this one often omit XI and XIV, which is a shame because they are both great games with rich stories. So thanks for putting in the extra work and including them ♥

@@merewynrose5944 The amount of research was a doozy, but the time capturing the footage and getting the episode made took me almost 5.5 months to create as I started playing FFXIV: A Realm Reborn when 2020 hit back in January.

It's great seeing someone talk about FFXIV in such great detail, as it's a very overlooked title. I started my FFXIV journey about 2 years ago and wish I'd started it sooner, as it's fantastic. Just one little correction: The playable Au Ra race wasn't added in A Realm Reborn but in the Heavensward expansion. Great retrospective series!

There was also a crossover event with FF15 in 2018 iirc where you encountered Noctis and fought 15's version of Garuda and you would get a few orchestion rolls from 15 as well as the Regalia as a 4 seat mount. Also the triple triad game features legendary cards that represent the protagonist of every main line Final Fantasy from 1 to 15. And since the producer of 16 being Naoki Yoshida, you can bet there's gonna be a crossover with that game as well.

Thanks for this! Out of curiosity, how long does it take you to gather information, record, find gameplay and edit these videos?

Thanks for your support! To answer your question, there's so much that goes into making the videos. First of all, I gather the information when I make my scripts. Scripts usually take at least two week to compile. Any new information that pops up in between, I make sure I add it to the scripts when I work on the other parts to making the episodes. Usually, the scripts are completed long in advance before I get down to work on the full brunt of each project. The first, seven episodes were complete about three years before I started doing this retrospective. Lots of other things started to get in my way when it came to getting this project on its feet. It's the same with so many of the games in this series as certain ideas don't make the cut until later installments. For how long it takes me to record the entirety of a game? That really depends on the size of the game and how many companion pieces there are that relates to any of the mainline games. For example, capturing the entirety of the gameplay for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn all the way to Shadowbringers' current patch took me about 5 months to complete. Working on Episode 9 that covers Final Fantasy XII and the games that are related to Ivalice took me about 9-12 months to fully capture footage for. The games that were on the NES, SNES, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 were more quicker for me to get to work on because of how shorter their scopes are when compared to today's entries. As far as finding footage goes, it usually takes me about 1-3 days to find all with what I need, and I find more if I'm at a roadblock during the editing process. Finally, the editing of the videos also depends on how long it'll take me to complete them. Most of the videos ever since Episode 5 have ranged between 1 hour and 30 minutes to at least 2 hours, and those videos usually take me about 3-4 weeks to fully complete the editing process. The ones that are under an hour usually take me about 1-2 weeks to complete. With the bigger games, they drain more and more of my energy since there's so much more to cover, but I brave the journey between each episode as my body is an inert, dead fish when working on everything. I hope what all I told you gave you great insight on how long every episode it takes for me to complete. Continue to give your full support and be on the lookout for more episodes in the future! :)

I always found it funny that new players for FF14 would complain about the price for story skip…I sit there and just yell out “play the fucking game ya bought LOL” it’s funny they will charge u 60 bones to get to the newest stuff but I can see where it could be a problem for OGs who don’t have they account that did it alrdy but story skip in FF outside of a speed run is sacrilege

Sorry to disappoint. If I did a retrospective where I only did episodes that only covered Final Fantasy XIV and its expansions then I could mention everything. However, since this retrospective is about the main games in the Final Fantasy series then that is why I had to skim over it in this episode.
