05:41 is a sad sight. Seeing 165115 when it was still in service all those years ago is quite sad. Only 5 years later 165115 was lost in the Ladbroke Grove Rail Accident on the 5th October 1999. But still a great collection of my favourite trains in their first years of service.

Nice video. I vaguely remember growing up with Regional Railways liveried sprinters and then the Anglia and Central Trains Turbostars. I've never been particularly keen on privatisation liveries except EWS and Great Western Merlin (My first and second train sets were the Hornby EWS freight with a 37 and then the GW HST). Then I lost interest in railways until RailWorks came along which got me back into it.

You can see the extra dampers on the outside for the higher speed limit of 90mph, wish they made 465s like that, could have been used for long distance services more dominantly.

they are also called Thames turbo units

Hi David, I work for Chiltern Railways and I am currently putting together a story for our internal communications to celebrate our 25th anniversary of the franchise. 1 of my tasks is to search out archive footage to grab some still from or use a small piece for a video which is being made within Chiltern Railways. I am asking if you would not mind me using some of this footage to put into the video its self? If you would let me know I would very much appreciate this. many thanks for taking your time in reading this. I am unfortunately working to a deadline so if you could notify me by the middle of next week. Thanks again. Martin Chiltern Railways Internal Communications advisor.

Hi David, I am not sure if you are still active on this channel. If you could please come back to me I would very much appreciate this. Many thanks

@Martin BRADY using other people's youtube videos is fair use, I think you should be able to use a small clip from this and have it fall under fair use.

class 165115 is no longer with us with the exception of one driving vehicle as it was involved in the ladbroke grove rail crash
@david-othen8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that extra information. The Ladbrooke Grove crash was certainly a major tragedy perhaps caused by inexperience or inattention.

David Othen according to the investigation, no fault was found with the driver, he simply made a mistake caused by the low sun behind the signal he passed at danger, SN109. The way the signal was designed and positioned, it made the signal at best difficult for even a more experienced driver to spot clearly (shaped like a reverse "L" and being positioned soon after a bridge as well as the gantry it was on being overly crowded). Railtrack and Thames Trains (both to do with inadequate training with regards to nonstandard signal design and how much training new drivers get) were both fined for their roles in the accident and SN109 was changed to make it easier to site, and TPWS was introduced too, but it was still a tragedy

sbaker190189 I read that report a few times, it cited the run in and out of Paddington as tricky. Strange how the TOC and railtrack didn't act on all the drivers' complaints of poor visibility.
@SiVlog19895 жыл бұрын
@@semajttam maybe it is like what the airline industry has been guilty of in the past, only changing something when there's death involved and public outcry

but luckily the class 165/1 unit is still a three car unit like its twin the class 166
@Cactus7324 жыл бұрын
Scott Whiley’s Rail and air productions 166s are all 3-car, 165s, both /0 and /1s, come in 2 and 3-car formations.

Was the 166 used regulary on the Hereford service? I assumed it would be inter city.
@SiVlog19895 жыл бұрын
Last I knew, the Cotswolds line (to Hereford via Worcester from Paddington) was run by HST 2+8 sets (though obviously, these are being retired)

it's a shame they will be moving most of these to bristol soon as the bit from airport jct to maidenhead is electrified. The wires are up but they aren't live yet

Some will be given to Chiltern to elongate their suburban services, although the Bridges at Stoke Mandeville and Great Missenden were raised to allow for electrification in the late 90s.

there difference is that the class 165 is a two car unit with not air conditioning and the class 166 is a three car unit that does have air conditioning

Class 166 on London Underground tracks seriously...
@Cactus7324 жыл бұрын
Johann 65789 Nsamu They still do that. Chiltern run 165s and 168s on the old met line between Neasden and Aylesbury which is still London Underground territory as far as Amersham.

national rail trains can run on the same line as LU trains
@bb-36534 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the bogis are practically the same width when it comes to the wheels contacting the tracks. So they are compatible in that regard it makes sense tbh. Allows for compatibility ayye?

Since you like documenting historical railway service equipment, and have access to old VHS footage to make these documentaries possible, you might actually enjoy this newly created short documentary about the historical electrified Amtrak rail service from the Northeast U.S. Corridor.
