Hi Abhishek Roy, There are some calculation mistakes about gross income from One acre. The farmer said 3500 plans in 1000 metres. It means for 4000 meters i. E. One acre.Total plant are 14000 per acre & in first yield after 18 months would be 800 grams per plant. It means the total plants would be 14000 x 800 grams = 11200 kgs per acre. Keep aside 1200 kgs so 10000 kgs would net in one acre for calculation purposes. Price is Rs 10,000/- per kg Total revenue amount comes to Rs 10000x10000 plants =Rs10, 00, 00,000/- Rs Ten crores only. Pls verify at ur end.

We had vanilla plant in our home when i was very young, i guess it was in the year 2005. In our place( wayanad, kerala) its growth was tremendous and we got good yield during those time but it was affected from some or other diseases and was very difficult for maintaining, also the pollination process was very hectic, we have to go to each and every plant flower which was grown and have to do manual pollination, which was very hectic, now we don’t have any traces of it in our land😢.

Very informative and very much impressed by the farmer response. One suggestion if you could share this farmer details and location of the farm it would be more helpful. My personal experience when I was into vanilla farming max I was able to sell it for Rs.1400 this was in 2001 i think. Today farmers are failing in marketing there products. This gentleman is giving wrong informations. He don't have practical knowledge. He has no knowlege about the behavior of the plant. Unless one resist the vegetative growth reproduction will not happen. Vanilla is the origin from mexico and Madagascar. You get hundreds of flowers in one wine not 6 to 8. Though it is perennial you will never see a farm survived for more than 5_6 years anywhere. Beware of such informers. I was also cultivating in a large area. Cultivation is possible with right knowledge and informations. Explore well before you venture.

Current price is 1000 rs 😢 once in 20years it goes high. And each plant can produce only 200-300gms(maximum) per plant , and 3500 will be too dense, around 700(8*8) plants can be grown per acre, so 700*.25*1000= 1,75,000 you can get .

sorry to be the devils advocate here. if it was so easy to replicate Kerala climate or Madagascar climate in a place like Andhra Pradesh, most of the world would be growing Vanilla especially in places where the demand of Vanilla is high. There are two varieties, which are mainly grown. These kind of farmers or folks must be interviewed after a crop or two is harvested and then it would be better to evaluate how the farming is. is it worth or not? if not all the clowns who want to jump into this will go and invest so much money and lose it all and in no time and start beating their chest!!! Let the harvest happen, see how the beans are like? BTW, this is a hand pollinated plant and the way this guy speaks, he doesn't have a clue on the pain he will have to go thru...or the money of the one who has invested in..time alone will tell. good luck!!!
