Great news - lots of minor tweaks, the most specific is outhaul tension, using the lowest leech telltale to get it right. Too loose and the lowest telltale collapses. To tight, the boat just stalls Also so much is about trim and heel together, letting the rudder be so lose in your hand - however it has to be said I'm a known windy specialist - light wind I'm useless in the fleet these days!! The basics are still the same though. M

Hi Willem. I agree, it's not easy but such a fun boat, you will love practising and therefore it then gets easier!!

Great tips. You don't seem to touch the dagger board even on a run. Is it best to always keep it down?

I usually do on a dead run but not up by more than 1/4 the way up. On a reach, the board supports my weight allowing my forward drive. If I raise on a reach, the boat feels as though it's sliding underneath me, but I am 100kg+. I practised on Saturday with by the lee down winding, with a guy sailing the same course on normal broad reach. He was quicker. First evidence for me that by the lee not the quickest although it does feel fast. M

+Matt Thursfield . Good advice. I've been pulling it all the way up creating instability which has led to a couple of capsizes.

What specifically were the other boats doing that allowed you to blow by them (5:36-5:55)?

Megan Roberto Hi Megan. What you might not make out is Pete was in a 5 rig, I was 9. However main thing I do that he doesn't is look for the gust, when it hits, I'm already keeping the boat flat in preparation so when it hits, the boat drives forward, not to leeward. I also bear off in gusts all the time. Pete' s heel forces the boat into wind, the opposite of what you want. Hope helps. M
