With Natalia and Gelsey heading the principal roster, Marianna got overlooked but she was always wonderful. A first rate ballerina by any standards. And what can you say about Renvall but that he is amazing. Today I went to the Lincoln Center library to search a good tape of his iconic Golden idol. So stoked that you posted this performance of Giselle. It is a gem!!!

Dear Judith, thank you so much for giving us this importend "Giselle". (Why is the first act so dark?) The second act is absolut beautful, they have the courage to make it ROMANTIC; dancing, light and cuotumes. And a wonderful conducter! I am entusiastic! Once more thank you!

This came to me as a gift from Sweden and had to be transferred to Dvd from vhs so I am guessing that accounts for the quality. It is such a large piece of history that I had to share no matter the quality. And having a precious piece of dance with Johan Renvall actually dancing a full length Giselle was beyond wonderful. He and Marianna were wonderful together and in the US we NEVER got to see this full length pairing.

It is really a tribute to Johan but at some class in whcih the audience was alowed Marianna said she would dance this (and other things) with Johan. I thought they were such a beautiful partnership that it was a crime this would not be done at ABT. Anyway when I was given he oppotunity to convert this to DVD I took it.

She was and I am really surprised there is not more of her dancing on video. Of course for me Johan was incredible. I am so lucky to be able to show this to a larger audience. Thanks for your comment.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more! Tcherkassy was an amazing artist. The first time I ever saw ABT she was Juliet and John Gardner was her Romeo. She set the bar VERY high. Thank you so much Judith Booth for posting this.
