Operational costs and the contracts to keep it going are the question marks but absolutely - in particular if you or an Org you are with cna swing the costs without having to chase lucrative contracts to pay to run the ship by finding enough value in use case of being a base of operations like you mention.

When conquering is possible i see them and other fleet ships providing orgs a steady base of operations for resupply. Something that big would of course require the coordination of hundreds of players so it will be interesting how that plays.

Polaris would make a fine escort for ships that can carry more. It remains to be seen its final crew need and costs but I think it will act as a mover of hardware as needed (i.e. support scouting of an area) then transition to escorting a Galaxy or even Pioneer to build an Outpost along with the supply chain of haulers supporting such an operation. That's just one example of where I could see this ship becoming useful in the needs of an Org.

Vulkan on a single-core and DLSS are coming a long nicely. CIG does need to keep up the hard work and get FSR right and yes Vulkan multi-core which opens the game at higher framerates for so many in the Community. Hope to see sooner then later!

I hope CIG comes out with smaller utility ships so we dont have to use up our small hangers with one ship. Id love to see a small modular fury sized vehicle that could do simple repairs. I think that would work better than drones. I also think the Polaris will be the first ship that'll make orgs implode. You'll really have to stick to whatever role you have especially in pyro. So as you said, the Mirai but with small salvage arms that repair much like the salvage gun we have …what’s it called, the Pryo something…the two handed verion. You can repair with that as well as the small multi tool. Definitely think you’re onto something there

id like to see the missiles on the Polaris get bumped up 2 sizes, the missiles should be big and powerful for this class of ship the aft missile launcher should fire dumbfire but with big payloads that deter fighters from following to close, but with the new nose turret if we have to have a ballistics i want grape shot or chain shot or plasma shots i want different kinds on ammo but i really wish the nose was energy weapon. but love the other turret upgrades and the pds cannons

The PDS turrets in particular are plentiful and we are going to hear more about them at CitizenCon it sounds like. On plasma charges, Nova tank is eventually getting them - idea being that they had Tevarin threw trash weapons at Novas until they wasted primary weaponry ran out of ammo then took down the Novas. Plasma charges were added and the small missiles for Nova are just a placeholder until the tank gets its plasma charges as a secondary that will replenish autmoatically if powerplant is functional. Not sure how well that would scale up to a Cap ship but would be fun to see. On missiles, I guess we will see. It got the upsized turrets and then the PDS turrets so we will have to wait until the new design is unveiled.

At this point I wouldn't call it a corvette anymore especially if the turrets get upgraded. Its more like a light frigate in terms of size, weight and capability. (for comparison the Polaris weighs 17155 tons while the Hammerhead weighs 4260 tons)

Personally, at this point, I don't care what the *Devs* classify it as. I'm going to call her what she is: A Cruiser. In terms of size, the Polaris is now larger than a US Navy Ticonderoga class cruiser, and effectively fills the same role in terms of function. Even has a hangar bay for a "helicopter", to boot. Members of the CIG team have even said they are not happy with the ship classifications.

Honesty, I wouldn’t go by navy ship sizes and weights. Spaceships have so many additional requirements. A space corvette will always be bigger as a navy corvette. After all a bengal is 990m IIRC, more than any ship ever build by a good 200%. So a corvette being bigger is fine by my book. The relations writhing spaceship classes need to fit and I think so far they do

For the 890 all they would have to do is swap the hangar to the back and shift the luxury stuff to the front.

That would be a great move! 890 Jump many have suggested variants for the ship including medical, C&C, exploration etc. but even just a rework involving a modern hangar and some updated turrets/PDS/services would be most welcome.

Thanks Melsy - Percy is a solid vessel and one of them certainly could turn scales a lot when it rolls out. CIG Dev's threw around that Percy is tough but not as tough as a Cap ship and that got me thinking... "Ok... but what happens when 2 or 3 Percy show up? Can they overwhelm a Cap ship before it can chew them all up?" And honestly I cannot answer that question today, but something tells me there are going to be a ton of wrecks on the PTU answering that question in fun small gang battles as these ships come out. The ships larger size turret mounted weapons combined with enough storage to keep them firing is a potent combo against the right target. As for the Polaris - I don't think it will be a hangar queen due to its upscaled turrets, cargo/vehicle capacity, and hangar all in one package along with nice assortment of cap services for an Org to operate out of it (and of course its missiles/torps). In future as more niche ships come online like Lib and Ironclad for logistics less geared toward combat a lowered usage level may be seen for non-combat needs or in places where escorts are not needed.

Got to say most combat ships dont have their full gameloop. Of course you can go kill bounties but who wants to just go murder NPCs, its not fun, its not rewarding. Until CIG implements incentive to fight players, combat is unfinished

Remains to be seen, only gurantee is some services like that to support whatever can land in the hangar so that craft can get back out there to fill its role. Carrack 3D printer like assembler on the large table and tool room I believe is a different type of service than most ships will have - meant for ships where "I forgot my multi-tool at last site" is not a problem.

You could see inside of the polaris but you really had to get yourself stuck 😂 but we have some kinda layout idea of the inside but it was hollow nothing inside

I personally prefer the Perseus because i love the old dreadnoughts and battleships :D but it hasnt the versatility of the Polaris. Really nice Video and thank you for showing the details, they put so much effort in it awesome

Indeed! And Invictus was perfect place to get scale of this creature of all that work. Percy is going to be a great ship and coming out pretty soon in the pipeline post Polaris, will give us incredible amount of firepower with limited crew and presumably lower operational costs - no slouch, but yes missing cap services is what it is.

890J can fend of smaller ships until it runs out of missiles provided you don't stick around somewhere and let them group up. Note this may vary and watch server chat to note if you start seeing more organized pvp party forming, usually you will see they got someone and taunting or offering GFs etc. Polaris is begging for a skeleten crew of at least 3 personel to move, and ideally post npc gunners which who knows when that is coming to players... I guess the 890Jump, then melt it for Polaris later on when NPC crew come out?

In quite a few ways yes, particulary in known space where combat is anticipated and you can occasionally stop at a station or moonside with at least limited services. There will be elevated cost in crew size, upkeep, and refit of them S10 torpedos, but ship is no slouch in it's services and as I pointed out has a great trifecta of traits making it good at multi-role... I think the ship is maturing nicely as it slowly reaches testing with upsized turrets and standarized hangar for example.

@@RedJay its got one major upside as well.. the cargo works! you can get stuff IN and OUT.. the carrack is the most useless ship.. if you want to run cargo its pointless.. coz you cant get any in it lol.. the only thing i loved about my carrack was my own medi bed / spawn point.. and this big betty has one as well.. so i melted my carrack for this home base.. LOL I mean its going to take some effort to kill this bad boy when im doing my cargo runs :P haha.

@@danfrance1479 Well if we go back a few months both the Polaris/Zeus were slated for IAE, now when those ships are mentioned by CIG there is no inclusion of IAE in the comments, it usually trail off with 4.0 as a possibility. CIG don't make promises, i could care less about ship releases, im more for features, content and a decent framerate and stability, we have enough ships....although i do own many in concept. Im easy and laid back about the whole process, i leave the stressing to the idiots
