I've been geeking out about these for a while now BUT you just brought a great point up... SUN + ALL METAL means of course internal temps are going to get insanely out of control but even touching the sides of the camper during California summers is gonna fry hands, arms, kids.... oh well! Back to the drawing board.. Thank you

I’m a contractor out in NY. And I am about to mimic your exact set up for my tools and equipment 😂 sick set up. Only difference, I’m gonna get the roof rails for my ladders. Thanks for sharing man

Check out the RSI website for load limits. From memory I think that it’s 330 pounds when moving and 700 pounds when stationary. Either way that’s a ton of weight in the top of a topper. No one else comes close to that. Good luck! Send me some pics when it’s done! Jqgadventures@gmail.com

Magnetic hooks - Genius! I'm waiting for my RSI to be manufactured and delivery from South Africa to Australia, should be here in about 4 weeks so its great to get some ideas on accessories.

Remember to do maintenance on it, tighten all the bolts to prevent the insulation from coming out the side of the topper creating a bunch of problems.

Great review... question about the temperature. Have you ever tried an aluminum solar shade that everyone seems to have at all the dog events to reflect the heat? I've found them to be great when leaving my dogs in the cab, but now that I'm looking at a topper I'm wondering if that would help mitigate this issue for you.

I've been trying to decide between this or a smooth, black Diamondback HD bedcover on my new F150 Raptor. Diamondback says their bedcover is treated with UV protection. I wonder if that means it will not get as hot inside as this RSI in the heat of the summer? I wish they'd fashion some kind of small screen for the little insert side windows so those can be left open for summer time ventilation without risk of bugs or bees getting inside. Those little screens could be built in from the start or an optional, possibly removable add on after the fact, either would be fine.

Bed carpets are supposed to help with insulation, helping keep heat or cold out. Any idea if a bed carpet was installed, how much lower the temperature might get to inside in the heat of the summer? Negligible or a relevant amount? Anybody? Thanks.

A white vinyl wrap on the roof may help with reflecting the sun and help with keeping the cap cooler. What brand are those kennel fans? Thank you, great set-up.
@jqgadventures

That’s a good idea, thanks! Those are fans from Ruff Land, same as the kennels. I built an A/C unit a few weeks ago, check that out on the channel as well.

Damn. I wish there was more window with opening for air on this. I'm looking for a topper for dogs, but still strong enough to haul stuff on top.
@jqgadventures
@jqgadventures Жыл бұрын
Nothing out there stronger than this one for sure!! The airflow is pretty substantial going down the road due to the vent on top. I run 2 labs in mine and they do fine, but I don’t leave them in it when it’s parked during the warmer months.

In in Wyoming too! Casper. Just got my Smartcap for my video production business and thought Id comment cuz we are both in WY. I found that while installing mine that the tailgate portion of it has a sizable gap so I had to add some gasket material to my tailgate. Do you find it does well with water and dust getting inside the bed? Thank you for the informative review video

Mine fits really good in that area. Maybe adjust it in the front a little bit to get better coverage back there? Just a thought, but mine is super tight

Your video was an eye opener in regards to traveling with dogs! Is there a better solution? I plan to move from an SUV to a truck w/topper in 2023 and am worried this may not be the best idea. I have two 90lb dogs that would need to hang out in the back on road trips and we're in the Southeast!
@jqgadventures
@jqgadventures Жыл бұрын
The RSI is probably the one that gets the warmest. Leer and ARE both come with an insulated/carpeted ceiling in them that seems to help with heat reduction and their windows open quite a bit more when going down the road. If I was in your area and my dogs went with me a bunch I would probably stick with SUV for the A/C in the back. Just my 2 cents.

@@vincenatalizio8997 I have thought about several different options or ways to cool it off. I haven’t seen or come up with a way that would work given the power requirements. But I would love to know more about what your thinking….! Send me an email at jqgadventures@gmail.com Thanks!!

Insulation on the topper will help. Even the bubble wrap Mylar type. You could fully wrap it and still use your magnets

What measures you can take to lower the heat back there for a crated hunting dog? I see your fans, but 100+ degrees is way too hot. I wonder if insulation would make much difference.

No. They do it that way so you can access things in the front through the window.

You stated it gets really hot in the back during the summer for dogs. If you have the windows open in the summer while driving down the highway is it Still to hot for Dogs?
@jqgadventures
@jqgadventures Жыл бұрын
If you’re moving it’s ok because the roof vent moves quite a bit of air into the topper, if the windows are open it’s even more substantial. It’s a problem with the heat if you are stopped. I built an A/C unit from an old cooler that is also on my channel that works perfectly for keeping it cool. Check that out.
