love the kit. I have switched mainly to 275 cord. it's strong enough for most things, still has the inner strands, but I can have a lot more heavy cord when I need it , in the same space. I don't find myself needing anything as heavy as 550, But then I'm in the Northern Arizona desert,

550 is the basic military standard. Locally I haven't been able to find any. So I settled for some 150 (Ridgeline & basic tying) & 1100 (to bear the weight of a person).

Do you reckon for the last couple thousand years the Native Americans carried 100 feet of cordage around with them everywhere they went outdoors?! No. Learn to do without man-made cordage, for true bushcraft/primitive skills. This will give you the knowledge to comfortably go without cordage all together. Natural cordage is everywhere. It doesn't weigh you down or take up room on your person or in your pack. If you're set on needing a lot of cordage, learn how to make cordage from plastic bottles and other trash, not just natural materials. It's a very similar method to making leather cordage.

I use kevlar and some type of black cord that came in wazoos essential kit and I use type 1a cord for my kits the 550 is usually too big to fit I use a maxpedition fatty for my kit.

Great content. I thought you would of recommend calving a groove in the gaff pole so it holds it better? Zip ties can slip plus a groove around the pole would grip both zip ties and the hook if you bend the hook appropriately. I adapted the feral rod and striker by replacing the striker with a hack saw blade. It will give you a secondary method of sawing a small branch. You can lash it to a section of wood and it’s as good as a multi tool saw plus you can cut metal with it if you choose that hack saw blade. I would add to the kit a safety pin or two. (That’s what we call them in the UK) it takes up no space whatsoever. You can always fill a kit with stuff that are gap fillers like a needle and safety pins. One of my favourites is a button along with the needle n thread. Also I like to add a small magnet so that I can magnetise the sewing needle to create a compass. You just need to rub the magnet on the sewing needle and place the needle on a leaf in water and it will point to north.

I love how you were able to find a knuckle bandage to match your shirt. That's like downtown! Brother, you cram so much great information into so little time. I can't get enough of these! Andrew, we have to convert you to to Canadian Jam Knot. The equivalent bulk of #36 bankline to your zip ties would give you way more versatility and instead of roughly 30 lbs of break strength you could have close to 200 lbs. Sure it takes a little longer to tie, but the advantages are worth it.

Bics are always worth having around. After they run out, you can use your knife to shave a pile of plastic from the case onto your tinder, gently roll the flint onto the plastic without igniting it and when your flint pile is big enough, roll some spark onto it.

Great video today Andrew!!! I bought their book, “6 ways in, 12 ways out” many years ago and found it well thought out in their methodology, and their emphasis on the tiered/layered aspect of carrying your lifesaving (survival) gear. IMO they fused primitive fieldcraft with modern aspects fieldcraft (survival) into a pretty comprehensive program. Kudos to you for using a Devo reference when working on the Mora sheath… kids just don’t know! Lolol. Good fortune on trying out at the school tomorrow! See you in the trail later! Keep up the Fire!

I was so blessed too find a craftsmans. I've switched it up with different metal and Wii cutting blades. It like a key hole saw . You insert the blade then tighten the set screw. It works for me with only one strong hand.

I have that exact case and all the pieces. Time for me to pack it up to have a grab and go kit that’s waterproof. I was thinking of wrapping paracord through the handles and around the back for extra cordage. Excellent video sir!

Use to be a member over on the "RSOG" forum. Was a great group of like minded people over there, don't know about now, life happened and I got away from checking in on a regular basis. Go check out Viking Preparedness, Pastor Joe was on there at the time I was there and he went by Joe Dan. Heads up to armchair commandos, these guys are the real deal and call out fantasy B.S. in a heart beat. Don't be afraid to ask what you need to know just keep down to Earth and practical and you will be fine. Edited to add: The cadre over there are all high speed low drag types that served in the Ranger Battalions or higher special military groups, they lived the life.

So much you can do with that Mora knife. Get some 7 in 1 para cord. You have paracord plus tinder, fishing line, snare wire, and kevlar cordage all in one. Add a mini 1/8" dia ferro rod under the paracord wrap and now you have a self contained kit on your belt.

For my rope I use heat shrink tubing instead of burning the ends. I also use it for paracord. It make it kind of like a shoestring end. Easier to thread through openings, plus can actually be used for shoestring.
