The 1857 Uprising was coopted under the leadership of Bahadhur Shah Zafar - the last Mughal Emperor sitting in Delhi. Hindus and Muslims gathered together under this Last Mughal, if indeed Muslims are not Indian citizens, what were the Hindus doing gathering under a Mughal Emperor to evict the British from India. At such a time, the Hindus did not unite under the Maratha leader of Nana Saheb Peshwa II though he was also involved in the Uprising 1857 in Kanpur. This Uprising began in Meerut which then was captained at Delhi under Shah Zafar - The Last Mughal Emperor and then spread across to peripheries.
