A simple explanation of the complicated levelling system: The damage of weapons scales on certain attributes which you can see in the menu for each weapon. Normally, Big, heavy weapons require strength, and smaller, more agile ones require dexterity. Let's just say STR and DEX. Levelling up DEX won't do much for a weapon that scales with STR, so do keep that in mind. Usually, the attribute with the highest rating (A, B, C, etc) is the one you should level up the most for damage. You picked a magic heavy starting class, magic exists in many forms, INT, ARC, AND FTH, your's uses Intelligence (INT), so you will cast sorceries and spells, mostly "glintstone" sorceries. There's two types of "energy meters" your stamina, for physical uses, and your mana, for magic uses. Stamina relies on your Endurance level, and Mana on your Mind level. Level them up accordingly.

He said he never had a console so all these mechanics are new to him. He plays pc games and those are very different in style and mechanics. Especially if he's an rts player where gameplay is basically staring at an idle menu screen for 90% of the time and clicking occasionally without much player input. Almost like being a worker at a cash register or something. But games like elden ring require all the player's attention and reaction to play effectively. So it's understandable that he struggles even at basic things, which most console player would intuitively pick up while playing a Souls game even for the first time. Because this is basically like Castlevania but in 3D.

Prisoner starts with the Rift Shield. It's a Small Shield. Which have almost 15 active frames of Parry. Small shields are only 2nd to Buckler, the most broken shield for Parrying. Meaning he can spam the button with his foot and he will parry every single time. Let's see him parry with a regular shield then.

Took me an hour to get the brass shield and you got it instantly lol. You're in for a treat, this was my first soul game as well and still remains the best/most addicting/engaging game I've ever played. 8 days, 150 hours with 5 hours of sleep each night using sleeping pills to put me to sleep quick and caffeine in the morning to wake me up. All so I can get back into the game as quick as possible, to this day I wake up and breathe elden ring, and when I die I will become the elden lord and will leave the erdtree burnt to a crisp.

Whoever said Mouse and Keyboard are fine needs to be thrown in a damn dungeon lmao. There are things you literally can't do without major custom changes, and even then you'll be fighting the controls the entire playthrough because you can't change all the keybindings. At best, you can beat the game on Mouse and Key, and because it's a good game you'll have fun. But the mouse and keyboard experience is so far below controller, I saw a dude (who only plays with mouse and keyboard) regret this decision in the long run when it was too late to change due to time sunk mastering the controls.

Tips from a souls veteran: 1. Gravity is likely to kill you more than anything. 2. If it isnt automatically hostile its a npc you can talk to(the guy you pissed off who called you maidenless has a questline with good rewards you now miss out on same goes for most npcs). 3. Your playing skill is far more important than your gear. "Get good" they like to say

Tip 3 is an important one, it's not called "Fashion Souls" for nothing, I don't think armor has actually mattered for defenses since Dark Souls 1 and 2 lol.

@@TheOnlyGhxst Armor certainly does matter for defenses in Elden Ring. Especially if you optimize it but even if you simply get as good armor as you can for a reasonable endurance level. It's just that like with everything it can be skipped.

@@andrek6920 It does not help much for survivability at all really. The only thing I’d say Armour is really useful for is poise if you’re going for a face tank build. And that has pretty much been the case since DS2, you just use it for the hyper armor. Whereas in DS1 the elemental resistance on different armor sets actually made a big difference. What I mean is, if you take a level 1 character with no stats and see how long it takes for you to die while wearing the best armor in the game vs no armor at all, the difference is so small that it isn’t worth worrying about. Plus, the best defense in all souls games is to just not get hit lol

@@TheOnlyGhxst This isnt DS2 or RL1 we are talking about though. Sure dont get hit, that doesnt mean armor isnt meaningful if you do get hit. This isnt a challenge run or perfect gameplay. Getting vigor vigor and some more vigor is the most important early, but at a point the only meaningful way to increase defenses will be endurance for heavier armor and buffs, which can actually get you to a point of avoiding a significant amount of damage that will easily rival the defensiveness of just having 60 vigor. In terms of just getting 51 poise though all youll need is 12-14 endurance if you arent stacking too much extra shit in your hands. At most 20 if you want to have almost 20 weight cap left over after armor.

Played through DS1 and 2 on keyboard and mouse. Was about to start 3 on kbm too, but then happened to spectate a friend trying out DS1, as his first fromsoft game, on controller. Dude was struggling with Asylum Demon. I offered to show him the ways. He hands me the controller (first time holding it in my hands lol) and I beat AD no hit while having to concentrate all of my mental power on which button is where on this thing haha. Felt so natural for DS almost immediately. I, of course, didn't land the last blow on AD and died instead. This was my friend's fight to overcome afterall. Since then I proceeded to play DS3, Sekiro and ER with a controller and never thought of switching back
