I have just started with Balboa basics. I have so far danced lindy hop and charleston, and minimalistic balboa is kind of confusing for me. :) But damn, it looks great, when someone can do it!

It is not as minimalistic as they say, as you can see for yourself. But the basic step is, and with a couple of ins and outs and lollies, you can dance the night away without all the acrobatics in this video

Balboa was the original swing dance. Lindy hop and all other forms of swing came from this.

@@lewisfitzsimmons1271 If you go "strictly" balboa: no swing out, no aerials, no airsteps, no charlston moves, no break aways, no solo-jazz, no skip ups, no ... TOO MANY "NO NO"s. Also watch ILHC 2014 spotlight: fast music and awesome fun dancing.

Ping Pong okay, you seem to be talking about Pure Balboa, which is weird because the video you are commenting on is balboa and it contains all the things you mentioned! With the exception of any breakaway and the swing out which I would argue is just personal preference in this particular performance. (And the no”solo-jazz”/“Charleston steps” claim is in my opinion rather obtuse and ignoring the fact of literally where these dances came from) But none of that is really even the point, even if this were Pure Balboa video, Pure Bal is awesome! It is full of connection, creativity and musicality.

Ping Pong so, I feel like, though I too adore Lindy, if you and you’re partner aren’t enjoying balboa...that might be a you problem, not a problem with the dance.

@@lewisfitzsimmons1271 Balboa is Lindy without the fun stuff. It is true, you know it, I know it. Doesnt mean you shouldnt dance balboa or enjoy it.
