I was surprised Rob was the one saying he liked a character that starts off weak and comes up. Historically speaking, he'd be the first to call them a word and say "man up". To be fair, I guess watching great anime where a character comes up could change his mind. Everyone hyped this show up, and Ep 1 did not disappoint. RIP to the artist Dubu. Personally, I don't think that mana crystal will do too much. In this episode, it is noted that Jinwoo pays attention, for his chance to strike. I'm guessing he's gonna reread the message board and use his wit to get him out of it. Or something.

I mean, the MC here didn't spend half the episode brooding over how weak he was and having people pushing him to "get into the robot", but the opposite, so it makes sense for Rob to not complain about that.

Also the character is an adult male when many MC’s are teens still attempting to understand their emotions. I can understand him knowing his place in the world. I haven’t read the manhwa to this. I just found it interesting he said he enjoyed a weak character. To be honest the only one I remember him coming around to was Armin of AOT. This character, Jinwoo seems very strong in his self-awareness and I’m excited to see what happens in this story

But they said that once your given your rank no amount of individual effort will allow u to increase further. So it isnt Sungs lack of a good weapon that stops him from growing. It's true there's absolutely no way for anyone to level up, but good equipment does make a big difference, that's why it's so expensive and the best hunters are usually decked out - it's not to the scale of 'leveling up', but it can help give them an edge over their base stats.

Interesting Fact: "Solo Leveling" is the fan-created english title. "I alone level up" is actually a more accurate translation of the Korean title, which is what you'd look for to find "official" manhwa translation. This is only important as it is a bit less vague a title than "Solo leveling" which after you know the other title, now makes more sense as well.

I don't know if you said it later in the video but actually they don't level up in this world. You are set the minute the universe set you your hunter rank and power which is why becoming a hunter, especially in the lower ranks are optional. It's why leveling in this story is so crazy because if he was weak he was meant to stay that way till the day he died.

To give more insight into their ranking system not everyone awakens some people awaken later in life, some earlier, some in the middle, and some never do. Sung is the weakest hunter ever even among other E-Ranks but compared to unawakened people he’s strong then them. So the weakest hunter in mankind is sorta true. Double Dungeons are also really rare and unpredictable cause you can be in a E-Rank gate but the double dungeon itself is B or A for example no being prepared leads to death in this world(or any world for that matter) (Fun Fact- the anime shows a lot of characters you don’t seen until further in the chapters which is a nice twist and change the animators did.)

I enjoyed the first ep, and the manhwa was recommended to me by friends in the past. Noticed some anime reactors (FreshestAnime & Re:Animated) also read the manhwa, so I decided to check it out, and binged 180 chapters in a few days. Didn't finish the side stories yet, but I know the plot, power scaling, and everyone's names, etc. Didn't read the light novel, and probably won't, unless I feel like it, at the end of this season. The art is amazing. I hope that style translates somehow to animation. Very dark panels w/ bright neon, highlighting eyes and weapons. It reminded me of Goblin Slayer's art a bit. Also, Gojo's eyes from JJK. The only downside is now I'll have to wait a long time to see some of those awesome panels animated. It's an easy read. There's not much text at all, it's mostly action. I recommend reading the manhwa. I rotated a monitor vertically, and tapped "page down," to read through it efficiently. It seems like each ep will cover 5 chapters or so. There's gonna be 12 eps total in this first season. I was hoping for 24 eps. If I'm being optimistic, then the first season should cover about 60 chapters total, so I have an idea of where the story will pause.

Sung JinWoo needed to work as a hunter because it is the highest paying job in his day and age. His mom's hospital bills, his sister's college fees, rent, food, daily use items etc. Working normal jobs wouldt cut it, he is currently 23 or 24 y.o a young adult who hanst even been hit by puberty properly. Even that small useless E rank crystal goes for a LOT just... not enough for someone in his shoes. Also the studio thats animating is A-1 Pictures the same who made Sword Art Online, and Hiroyuki Sawano composer for Attack on Titan's, Aldonoah Zero and others music.
