“Totoong pinaka-importante ang ating mga kababayan,” said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as he stressed the importance of healthcare to the Filipino people in a speech during the 20th founding anniversary of the Premiere Medical Center (PMC) at the Joseph Ray B. Yang Cancer Institute (JRBYCI) grounds in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.
He urged the medical practitioners and hospital administrators in the audience to support the reform of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or ‘PhilHealth,’ saying, “kailangan ng corrective measure right now.”
The President also spoke about his administration’s other agenda such as the war on illegal drugs and criminality. “There has to be a solution,” added President Duterte.
After his speech, the President proceeded to a small building where cancer patients supported by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the PhilHealth are being housed. He visited and gave financial support to the families of the six patients who are currently admitted at the said institute.
PMC Board Chairman and Fiscal Atty. Danilo Yang, along with other hospital officers, played host to the President and visiting local government officials of Nueva Ecija.
Before President Duterte’s departure, the employees of the hospital showcased their talents in a serenade by the PMC choir, and a version of the Filipino native dance ‘tinikling’ by the PMC dance group. The President gave two thumbs up for their excellent performances.
