I made this comparison video as many people have requested it. Truth is, the 3050 is not a replacement for 2060 or even 1660 Ti. It replaces the GTX 1650 Ti in Nvidia’s product segmentation.

Bought a MSI GL65 Leopard with a 125w 2060 and 10750h a few months ago when 3060s were just rolling out. I don't know what they were thinking with the 3050s. Must be, 'lets snap the ultra cheap gamer'! That GPU feels like the 1650s in the 2060's era.

@@shamilesprite9650 GTX 1660 Ti is eventually going out of production so you can't buy it on the market any longer. The RTX 3050 is coming in at lower price points (around 899 USD) compared to when GTX 1660 Ti was released. The point of buying RTX 3050 is for those on a budget, and it means a significant jump from the 1650 family. The sucessor to GTX 1660 Ti is RTX 3050 Ti. damn i am so glad i bought the asus rog strix rtx2060!!! just bought my first pc a week ago and i was tossing up between the asus rog strix 2060 and the 3050. I knew nothing about computers and so just assumed that rtx 3050 would be better. My gut feeling though was that because it only had 4gb vram it would could bottleneck and just make some games unplayable as opposed to just lower frame rates i just had a feeling that they were trying to short change me and i was right!!! i almost fell for their marketing schemes of trying to sell me an all round slower laptop but im so happy with the decision i made and the performance of this pc its good to see the exact same pc outperforming in these tests!!! about time i was lucky in life haha

RTX 2060 (if it is a standard Max-P version) is better than RTX 3050. However I think Asus gaming laptops and especially the Strix series hold an advantage in build quality, design and overall brand value.

The ROG Strix G15 is a better laptop in my opinion but if the price of MSI is really, really low than it might be worth to consider it. The 2060 Max-Q’s performance is closer to a GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q which in its turn is on par with RTX 3050 Ti (9% faster than 3050). Gaming wise the RTX 2060 is still gonna be better and if you plan to run games at ultra quality such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Watch Dogs Legion or any other game that requires more VRAM I would recommend 2060 straight away because it can handle those games much better. That said the G14 is a 14” laptop with greater battery life while the Legion 5 is a standard gaming laptop 15”. I would recommend that you watch my RTX 3050 game test video to see how it handles different games at ultra settings to truly see if the RTX 3050 fits your need, or if you really need that extra power and 2GB more VRAM.

It all depends on the pricing in your country. I suggest to get the best performance per dollar. I buy used 2060 laptop because it is cheaper than 3050. But from my personal opinion, 3050 is not worth it. It cant sustain solid 60fps let alone 144fps. I dont get why manufacturers pair 144hz display with 3050.

Sure, it depends on pricing. I just show the relative performance difference. The reason for 144Hz is simple. It has to do with economics of scale, and also the fact that not everybody plays AAA games. The 3050 can pull 200+ FPS in games like Fortnite and Valorant on lower settings.

I had to buy a more powerful laptop for college and I got an ASUS TUF F15 with RTX 3050 and 144 Hz adaptive sync screen and I'm quite happy with the gaming performance even though not all games can run on ultra settings because of the 4 Gb VRAM... but I got it on sale for 799€ whereas the full price was 1049€, so all and all I think I got great value for my money.

144HZ is for refresh rate (nicer display) and to support competitive gaming over 144fps. Competitive games usually run on low-med settings which is what they play best at and they like the reviewer said get over 200 frames. You don't get a budget gaming laptop to play on ULTRA settings. Even the 2060M is struggling to stay above 60FPS for Ultra but it does more consistently since its more powerful and faster.

Biggest issue with the 3050 is that Nvidia decided it was a good idea to only give it 4GB of VRAM, it's a handicap, I went with a 115W RTX 2060 instead

Sure absolutely. The Dash has amazing 10+ hours of real world battery life and it does good in games as well with that Tiger Lake quad core processor with high single core clock boost. I would try to get 16GB RAM in the future.

Each video takes between 40-80 hours of work, setting up the laptops, running benchmarks for all games and all laptops, then analyzing the results. Not to mention making the video itself. The last 10 videos I made receives just a few hundred views each. Considering all the time I have poured into making these videos, it doesn’t make sense for me to post more content unless the views for one video can go up to 10-20K in a week. Sorry but it is easy for people to just ask for comparisons, I get it, as I receive requests every day for different tests, it takes them 20 seconds to write a request but most people watch only a fraction of my videos and even less people leave a like. It doesn’t exactly motivate me to post more videos at the moment.

If you can imagine the results of 2060 in my videos. The take away 10% of the average results, then compare it against the results of 3050. 2060 also has 2GB more VRAM. It matters in certain scenarios where 4GB is not enough in games.

Not sure which country you watch from as pricing varies a lot for what you can get for 1000 USD but I would generally start looking at Asus TUF A15 and Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3. Desktop systems will always be better than any laptop GPU from the same generation. If your main use is to play games and only games then a desktop (same GPU) will give you more fps. Laptops are better value than desktop right now because of the GPU shortage.
