I have 3090 xc3 hc 3x 360 rads push pull, evga pcie booster 1000w evga psu taichi x570 5800x3d and still pulling stock at the wall. Made sure ea. pcie rail continuity check on added shunts and pcie slot to shunt..

Thanks! Great video. Question, if it takes so much power to increase core clock, what's your take on the recent Gigabyte video upload where they showcase their 3080 Aorus Master (or is it Extreme?) running an RDR2 bench at around 2025MHz / 65C. Also, the Strix claims their card to run at 1935MHz in OC mode which is like 120MHz more than the Gaming X Trio, how that possible?
@FrameChasers4 жыл бұрын
Just increased power limits combatted with huge ass coolers, those cards have 5 pound metal bricks attached to them. The cooler a card can run the higher it can auto boost, the more power limit you can give it while keeping it cool will boost it even more

I have a Ventus 3X 3080. Its currently undervolted to make the clock more stable as its got a hard power limit of 320W without being able to flash a BIOS since it seems to be hardware limited. I've identified the 9 resistors to shunt on the PCB. I wondered if this is safe to do lets say for only a minor limit. So for example. If i wanted to limit the voltage and core to make it stable at 1950 or up to 2000MHz. But NOT go further ever. Obviously this card has only 2 x PCIe 8 pins and is a cheap 3080. But id be interested in just removing the 320W limit to gain 2GHz without it bashing the power limit constantly giving bad 1% lows etc.

You can just flash the gigabyte 380w bios
@Rhole3 жыл бұрын
@@FrameChasers Thanks for the reply. I've tried all the 2 pin Gigabyte BIOS on techpowerup and also the ASUS TUF BIOS. None of them allow the card to do anything over 320W. Some unlock the power slider but the power is still locked at 320W regardless. Is there anything else to try and flash? I have ordered the resistors for a shunt thought. They should be here Monday.

@@FrameChasers Just wanted to say thanks for your Video. I did end up shunting my MSI Ventus 3x 3080, thats hardware limited to 320W. I used hot glue, but will be soldering it to make it permanent, I shunted the 2 PCIe 8 Pins and also the PCIe slot. Now my Port Royal scores have jumped from my previous average when undervolted which was around ~11,200 to now my last run which was 11757! Very pleased with the result. It averages in between 1950 and 2010 in the core under full load now. Before I couldn't keep 1895 from bouncing off the power limit. www.3dmark.com/3dm/59317684 Amazing! Thanks for your videos!

lol when will seasonic keep up with the big boys: ax1600i, leadex 1600, 1600 t2, etc. Can’t wait until they do as it will be a beautiful 1600w ti psu. So to clarify, you 5x double shunted (=10 resistors) the front and 1x doubled shunted (=2 resistors) the back, and so added 12 to the existing 6? Also, does watts and tolerance % matter with the 8mohm resistors or simply 8mohm resistance and whatever?

Can totally shunt 2 8pin cards and get what a FTW3 scores with a high power bios. My gigabyte gaming OC has a beefy enough cooler to get to 19200 gfx timespy. Considering its low 17k stock... it ain't much but works fine.

@JulianUccetta4 жыл бұрын
So, generally speaking it's relatively safe to shunt the PCIe resistor, however, depending on the resistor you go for, I HIGHLY recommend having a motherboard that has an aux power input for the PCIe ports as drawing excessive amounts of power through PCIe can *possibly* overheat your 24-pin cable. If you have a board that has an extra power input (molex/sata/PCIe) for the PCIe slots then you should be just fine as the power would be coming from there. And yeah they do get extremely hot! Waiting on my 3090 FE waterblock. After shunting the card it IMMEDIATELY maxes out on temperature when running a heavy 3D load :P

3090 eats all the watt, too big pain in the butt was gonna do a shunt but seeing this ill just hope for a water cooling bios. working with 370W limit right now, there is a gigabyte bios I could use that gives me 390limit but at the cost of a display port that I like to use at any rate with the water cooling should hopefully be able to undervolt and lock to find a sweet solid non bouncy 2ghz at least, be watercooling everything after I get my new ryzen to save mucking about

500W on single GPU card without sub ambient cooling? That's got to be a record high power draw. Even 290X wouldn't go that far on ridiculous clocks and voltages, and that one actually overclocked well.

Edit: NVM, saw you did do a voltage curve Did you try OC at least with a voltage vs. frequency curve? Right now I know you're letting it move up to whatever is standard on the voltage curve. What happens if you benchmark with +50-100 on the core? Or a custom Voltage curve?
@FrameChasers4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it seems like locking it at 1v 2ghz with no power limit is the best, 19500 in timespy doing it that way and the temps are manageable. Still too hot for an air cooler though, 950mv might be better

@@FrameChasers 19500 graphics score? Is there a secret sauce to get so much better scores in there with (seemingly) lower clocks? I had mine set to ~2145 but due to throttling average frequency 2072 and graphics score 19300. Is it due to the throttling? I did the shunt mod as in the video minus the three small resistors. I have water block and if I recall correctly the voltage used was 1.075 or 1.05. The card will do 2100 @ 1.0V but even this gets a tiny amount of power limit throttling that I can seefrom GPU-Z with 0.1s sampling rate (from plot & log file). And the score in that case is worse (~18400 ish). card is kfa2 3080 sg.

Showing which shunt resistors to mod is not a ‘step by step guide’. You show and tell, sure, but also confuse by telling how two other parties did it differently and with less resistors being shunted, basically admitting you did it ‘suboptimally’. All this and the video is way too ranty and talky. 18 minutes... could’ve been so much shorter and interesting. Sorry for being honest, but De8auer or GN it is not.
