I wouldn’t pay $400+ more to get a 10-20 frame difference graphics card. The 4070 is definitely worth it. The 3090 is a waste of money and is definitely inefficient. Close to 350 watts is a lot. I’ll have to pay more for a PSU for the 3090. The 4070 is definitely a much better value.

This generation of GPUs are hit and miss, some did hit and some missed.... 4090 for example is something I'm so thankful Nvidia for, the jump in performance finally made my VR experience worth it, it's literally one of best decisions I made going for it, I usually buy XX80 card like the 3080

@@spidersense53 depends what VR headset you have, I'm using 8KX + have Crystal in order and for example in 8KX I finally was able to use it's native resolution at 90fps and without sacrificing settings, my games running at high/Ultra.... With a 3080 I had to sacrifice alot hence experience difference was night and day in VR, I also had 6900 XT and it's nowhere near the experience 4090 delivered

Super happy with my 4070. Upgraded from a 3070 so wasn’t a huge performance boost. But I live in the UK, so against all the other upgrades I could do, power was a large decision maker for me. It’s stupidly efficient for the performance it has. Genuinely love the card. It got destroyed by the media, unsure why. I get the lower vram. But I’m running all latest AAA games maxed out fine within the VRAM limits. I’m sure the performance will be a problem for me before the VRAM is. Plus DLSS3 is some black magic stuff. Genuinely mind blowing. Latency is noticeable but it’s not game ruining. You get used to it very quickly.

My 4070 FE takes around 140W (Cyberpunk maxed out) when undervolted with core @ 2705MHz and mem at 11500MHz - with DLSS3 Quality I play everything maxed @ 1440p (80fps+). When Frame Generation is available it's 120fps+ almost all times. I am VERY happy with that card. 60-65C (not undervolted) with fans ~30% - silent and cool.

I noticed, that the performance growth rates of new video cards are low. Unlike prices, which increase not in proportion to productivity growth. Everyone is mad that the 40 series cards are expensive but, the 3000s are STILL relevant and were insanely scalped. Lets be real, Mid range cards are AMD, if you want high end, its Nvidia, its that simple. AMD is to Honda what Nvidia is to Lexus. I think we need to realize Nvidia will ALWAYS be more expensive because their cards reach a MUCH wider audience therefore the demand is FAR higher than any AMD card. AMD is the defacto king when it comes to budget gaming. Nobody can deny DLSS 3 outperforms FSR by a LONGSHOT. Nvidia basically corners the market on RT. They dominate the 3D workspace. Its almost like they are charging for cards that are FILLED with new technology. Nvidia has ALWAYS set the bar for the market and the 4000 series is no different. Sorry for late comment but it's due to optimisation. Raytracing in Witcher 3 is quite badly implemented. Take for example Cyberpunk. In Cyberpunk on 1080p I have ~70-90 FPS on max settings with Raytracing enabled (Raytraced sun rays turned off) and in Witcher 3 I have ~55 FPS with Raytracing, with maybe some jumps to 60s outside of cities. So the game is 5 years older but performs worse.

Unless you’re playing at 4k you don’t need that much, even at 1440p I doubt 12 would limit you but, but if you are then definetly go for the more ram. I’m really impressed by the 4070’s power efficiency tho so just take into account if you would need to also upgrade your PSU or not. Plus buying new vs used.

Be wary of the 3090 because it has dual sided VRAM. Even single sided GDDR6x runs hot and the dual sided VRAM on the 3090 run hotter. It's tough to cool the VRAM modules on the topside of the PCB because those are only cooled by the backplate. Things will be even worse if the card was used for mining since the pads will be dried up. The 3090ti does not have this problem since it has single sided VRAM. Not sure why no one cites this but the 4070 and 3080 are about even in benchmarks. It's almost like they forgot these two cards were benchmarked against eachother.

3090 will fare much better in the coming years and any 12gb won't be good enough for 2k within the next year and at most the year after that. 12GB VRAM runs out completely if you play higher than 2k like ultrawide 2k or 4k. Just like 8gb became obsolete for 2k, now is the time for 12gb especially with RT that uses more VRAM.

@@BCCMightySanta that sucks dude. the 4070 will probably be like a 10-15% downgrade if you play at max settings on 1440p and above but otherwise you wont notice a difference. especially if you play esport games. I also have a theory that xx60/70/80 cards last longer than xx90 cards because they run at lower watts and draw less power. if you want something that is comparable to a 3090 then maybe look into the 4070 Ti which is probably equivalent to a 3090 with half the power.
