My favorite part of the ISS is the Kibo module and the attached exposed exposed experiment platform. I wonder what Japanese space nerds think about Kibo. I'm a little disappointed that ISS is being de-orbited with Kibo and wish there was a way to save it.
It will make managing life support a bit more challenging since it was originally intended for both NASA and Roscosmos to manage crucial systems. I guess NASA can be take control of the Russian section, or the onboard astronauts can manage things like CO2 scrubbers. The first Russian module contains the engines which are used for re-boosting the orbit. Anyay, we now know that SpaceX was awarded the contract to de-oribit the station around 2030.
