The way that music education is always vocalised in Indian music is really interesting. They are literally talking to their instruments.

It’s a beautiful thing!

7:56 _You have to practice every day, every single day. Or else, one day you don’t ask the instrument, and the next day instrument asks, “who are you?“_ :)

Great stuff Ruairi. You have made a brilliant series of filmed snd edited documentaries. Great sound, as well. What an intriguing little instrument the Kanjira is. Well worthy of highlighting for sure. As you know, frame drums have such a rich global history and I hope you continue this series of docu's. Cheers!

Ruairi, thank you so very much for this documentary!! Me and my son (8 years) old settled in Canada have recently started learning Kanjira from our Guru P. Vetriboopathy (in India) who is a great Mridangam, Kanjira player along with a few more percussions. Your video has been instrumental for me to explain Kanjira so well to my son who is born here in Canada. Thank you!

That was fantastic and transported me back to India. Thanks 🙏 I've played the khol for 20 years and would like to try the kanjira. I've heard the synthetic Remo kanjira is good but would love to hear if anyone with expertise has opinions about it!

This is a great documentary, thank you Ruairi. Have you ever thought of using the Kanjira in place of the bodhran for Irish traditional music? I happened to travel with mine and used it for the first time 2 wks ago in Belfast during 2 sessions, which brought some interesting looks and questions from the public :) ...
