Enjoyed the intro as it reminded me of a story my Dad told. This was in the late 50’s or early 60’s. A guy he worked with was bragging, and complaining, about the new rifle he had just bought in time for hunting season. He bragged about how accurate it was but he said it went through more ammo than he expected. So he and Dad went out to find out the problem. Yep, you got it. It was a semi-auto and every time he shot it, he ran the bolt manually. Thanks for the memory!!!

This actually makes perfect sense, they would likely all be at a set amount of powder per round so when the size of casing increases it loses potential energy before even popping the rubber bullet out of the casing. @toaster_gmbh2 жыл бұрын
The interesting part about this would be what their energy is, not penetration but jouls. Chrono and weigh them, that would be the really interesting part. I could see how they might try to stay in the same energy range which is why the bigger ones might be slower and have less of a visible effect. If you are in law enforcement you don't need bigger caliber bullets with more energy depending on the caliber size or at least not that it would be simply upscaled with caliber size. I'd guess you'd want consistent energy and not bigger rounds with even more speed having way more energy. Afterall this is ammunition to be considered less lethal so standard gun logic of bigger caliber for more damage doesn't really apply. Yes, the result you see might be still strange but that's what I'd like the energy of each one for. Because on real humans all of those would probably leave about the same mark as they exert the same force so you don't want a bigger caliber that does more damage.

I think I've learned a lot in this video. Not only did the rubber bullets carry less inertia exiting the barrel, it also loses a lot of that inertia through the air. Also the bigger the caliber more inertia it loses due to the more drag it suffers through the air causing it to generate the least force to the target on impact. I agree that the power (or lack of) is heavily influenced by the loading of these rounds. But I feel like there may also be a chance that these rounds have a different terminal velocity compared to regular bullets due to them being much lighter weight. If YT still allows it I would be interested to see if rubber bullets correctly packed by Scott would have the same effect (then it is likely caused by terminal velocity) or if they’re just unevenly packed with less powder.
@baadlyrics87052 жыл бұрын
The terminal velocity isnt as important as the amount of powder.. what do you think the terminal velocity is of a normal round? About 70 mph .. and if you shoot it then it travels way way faster. The terminal velocity would matter if shot straight in the sky and then the way it travels down will be in the speed of the terminal velocity. But in this normal case the terminal velocity doesnt play any significant role, just as it doesnt with normal rounds, theres no problem to propel an object past its terminal velocity

I mean I'm not sure what you expected, Scott. If the rounds are designed to cause pain but be non-lethal against people, well, people are all about the same level of bullet-resistant, so it makes sense that every round delivers approximately the same energy to the target. Therefore, as your bullet gets bigger, the powder charge must go down to compensate (it's probably more complicated than this given other factors like barrel length). Maybe you could argue that you might expect the rifle cartridges to be more powerful because they're designed to be used from further away?
@s.sradon9782 Жыл бұрын
a larger diameter is more area and less pressure for the same force, you can deliver more energy over a wider area and not cause penetration so as long as you don't rupture the organs with a pressure wave causing internal haemorrhage it's less than lethal. Seems like this ammo is just a scam to me.
@WJS774 Жыл бұрын
@@s.sradon9782 Yes, a larger diameter is more area, and the pistol rounds are all larger diameter than the rifle rounds. No idea why you think that makes it a scam though.

I've been making rubber bullets for 20 years to train with. I use nothing but a primer a case and a rubber stopper. They work great. I have put holes in terry cloth towels with them. They wont cycle an auto but in a revolver they are incredible. I make .380, 9mm and 38 special. .357 they are all non lethal which is what they are designed for.

At least then you can use pepperballs as well as the good old rubber practice balls, or you can do what some like to do and power mod it to shoot steel balls (or my personal favourite, sleeve the barrel and modify it to shoot smaller steel balls at a much higher velocity)

@@verakoo6187 he had a bad set for every single calibre he tries? When you have six different boxes of ammunition that all performed equally poorly you can't say its just a bad box, it's just bad ammunition overall at that point

I was stationed in Spain in 1983. One of the older guys already there was in Spain when Franco died. He got shot in the side with a rubber bullet during the riots. He said his right side was black and blue for a few months. He said it hurt like hell.
@polomat142 жыл бұрын
The "less lethal" rounds back then were way spicier. To the point of ceasing to be "less lethal", which led to numerous unintended deaths among protesters. In Poland police still uses the "spicy" 12ga rubber bullet shells, as FAM Pionki still uses full or nearly full power charge in their products.

@@polomat14 Thanks for commenting. I posted mine at the beginning of the video. I quickly began to doubt what I had been told by the guy that got shot. I figured they must have been a lot hotter rounds back then.

Excellent and hilarious intro of course! But those rubber things reminded me of the old days of primer powered wax indoor target shooting. Actually 25 years ago I had an infestation of mice. I used primer powered wax slugs to polish them all off 😂

I always wanted to know what a rubber bullet would do. Now I know, not worth the price. I don't think they would hold back any attacker, maybe tickle him a bit. Thanks Scott for showing us the truth. Good video.

Guess you didn't know that the reason for the "difference" in consistency is not the powder load. It's the distance from which you shot the target. A lot of the damage was done from the pressure coming out of the barrel at point blank versus 10 yards. Also, the shot to the side of the head looked like a temple shot which is a VERY thin area of the skull.

Those rubber bullets were beyond pathetic. Ive seen nerf guns with more power 💯 and then when you showed the extended slow mo of the Glock 17 action I was blown away by how awesome it looked and how long the slow mo lasted. And the AK just wiped out that zombie in spectacular fashion. Loving the videos man and because I live in the UK I can't even go and fire guns no where near the same way as you guys can and it saddens me to know I'll never get to unload a full mag of 7.62 into a zombie torso and love every second of it 😆.

About 15 years ago, I bought a 10 round sample pack or rubber bullets from an online company. The projectile looked and felt like it was made from a hot glue stick. When I tried it out at the range, it had enough power to go through cardboard at about 10-12 feet. Over the course of several years, I never was able to find anyone willing to shoot me with it

It's crazy how in the other videos the less lethal CO2 rounds actually pentrated the shirt and the torso but the rubber handgun rounds looked like they'd barely sting. Some of those CO2 ones actually caused pretty gnarly injuries like that headshot with the metal core round for example going into the skull.
