This video has had a lot of requests, so I finally broke down and made it. Here I show some Rubber Guard fundamentals, set-ups, common mistakes, control features and submission opportunities from basic to advanced. This is a sampling/overview of Rubber Guard, which is a versatile and robust position with uses ranging from sport to mma to self defense.
There are a ton of great resources out there on this topic, mostly from the 10th Planet System. But this guard system has spread far and wide for decades now, and continually evolves. Hope you like my brief overview here.

It's nice to see a RGBB show this stuff. Many of the RGBBs I know are living in 1994 and they have not, nor cannot, or whatever (I can't figure it out) accept that though arm locks and triangles, etc. have been around for a thousand years, how those techniques are landed and the way things are taught have EVOLVED! You know the rest, that I'm certain of. Great stuff. Keep it up!

I appreciate the comment. I try to keep up with every facet of jiu-jitsu as I can. I’ve appreciated the 10p system for around 15 years now and have trained a lot of rubber guard and half guard techniques from it over the years. To me, if it works and is efficient and effective, then it is valuable.

Thank you for the video Eli! White belt here and I've been a fan of the rubber guard for the past few months. I tend to trick the others because there's not a single 10p gym in my country and they never expect a gogoplata hehe (at least not at my level lol) I've been searching the web and trying to put all the options in one video, but have failed in finding it until now! So thank you a lot, I'll be trying out 3 or 4 of them tomorrow at practice and casually implementing them into my game.

Basic rubber guard is more effective, notice in the first stage the opponents posture is broken and only has one arm free, while the teacher has two open limbs to strike with and his shoulders are off the mat able to generate power from that position.

@@KnightJiuJitsu Thank you for the reply. I tend to pull the rubber guard from really high full guard (my legs around my opponents armpit) and I tilt myself a little to the side. I was able to transition to gogoplata, arm bar even zombie sometimes, but the lack of reliance on my flexibility makes me feel like its just an elaborated sideguard. I have started working on my lotus everyday. I hope I can achieve the flexibility I am aiming at without taking years.

@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 4 жыл бұрын
I would say start with research, like you’re doing now by watching videos. There are also plenty of good books to read, which include history and philosophy as well as techniques. You can get a training aid, like a grappling dummy, but ultimately you’ll need a partner and place to train. You can do a lot without a partner, but the resistance a partner provides is crucial to actual training.

I tried this rubber guard and it worked for many submissions ( im a under 1 month white belt) but at the end of the day i felt uncomfortable when i sat .
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 4 жыл бұрын
I would just caution against jumping into any advanced submissions. There are definitely many that require a greater degree of flexibility. Usually though, any injury comes from compromised positions with a lot of pressure on the joints that are already stretched. Make sure you stretch sufficiently and don’t do any extreme positions before warming up well.

What if you're not able to 'clear the head' from mission control because your opponent forces his head towards the side you need to have clear in order to perform most of these tricks? It's a serious question, i couldn't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu Ай бұрын
If you can’t clear the head, which is required to do a lot of these, they won’t be accessible. But if they are preventing the head clear, that means they are actively opposing the angle you’re trying to create, so the opportunity to switch to attempting to cut the angle to the other side is possible. If it is a posture issue instead preventing the head clear, you have to break them down first. Either way, if you can’t get it, just gotta do something else 🤷‍♂️
