I was never trying to win but back when I was 12 I went to one of these regional tournaments. It’s interesting because despite being a competitive people are super supportive. Even before your turn people were sharing supplies to put on there cube to help it rotate faster with less force. And discuss different solving techniques. Also I didn’t realize this but it makes sense. They are allowed to inspect the cube before solving. And every contestant has the cube scrambled to the same starting position
