Power to these sisters and the struggles they face. Also, as an aside, just like, the production of the video and the music are so fucking good. Amazing track exceptional talent. This! This is why as an Ilocano, though I am Intersectional, non-racial, Colonials would have referred to me as Mestiza. Being Ilocano, I understand the 400 years of Gorilla Warfare. We grew up in Oral Traditions. Unlike the other Indigenous Peoples of the Americas where Indigenous Peoples never could break free. In the Philippines, we have this core Soul Ethic. It runs from Island to Island. Not just the Philippines but I found it in Islanders who were story tellers in Queensland Austral too. We have this Island blood, we understand being Captives of Colonials. And, we have had these conversations for generations. It's like in our blood and our storytelling. We know other Indigenous Peoples around the World have been through the same historic treatment. And, our Rebellion is not just for Our Tribe. Our story tellers are freeing souls from the past generations of enslavement to fear, isolation and humility. We come from generations of people who say, "Think with your heart". You cannot get to know us until you are speaking from your heart. Because it's our core ethic - being real from our heart to yours.

I was so shook my ancestors felt it, the ones raped by Spaniards, the ones who had their lands stolen, the ones who hid in their children in bales of hay when they fought the Japanese. I didn’t know I needed this, truly decolonized incredibly intelligent piece in my life. I felt like I woke up again yo, so much strength, so much pride. This anthem has kept me going this year. I remember as a kid, whenever I visited my family in the Bay Area, my aunt would always talk to me about being a proud Filipino, learning the language and preserving the culture. While I was always proud of my heritage, she was on another level that I didn’t quite understand as a kid. On one visit to the Bay, she took me to a youth conference in Sacramento. It was only at that moment I realized that she was an activist for Filipino identity and empowerment. She was a speaker at that conference. The energy and solidarity I felt at that conference is something I have never experienced here in Hawaii. Only as an adult did I understand the full meaning behind my aunt’s work and message. I got chills when I watched this video because I can feel the strength and power in these ladies and my aunt’s legacy lives on through them. Rest in Power Tiya Nonie Briones

I’m only 25% Filipina but I was raised with my Filipino side & it’s the side of my family that I’ve always identified with the most. As a kid I felt not Filipino enough for the Filipino kids in school and not white enough for the white kids.. but this song gave me chills and absolutely has awoken my ancestors of my blood. Proud Filipina here, even if it’s only a quarter 🥰

This made me cry.. this is the ongoing struggle for us Filipinos born & raised in other countries. It's a struggle to have to be both. I'm a quarter white and I identify more with being Filipina. But here people think I'm Native or Mexican. I started putting a 🇵🇭 sticker on my work badge just so people can get it right. Or at least ask what flag that is. We're not Filipino enough for the Filipinos and not such & such for (insert country, including Fils in other countries besides America, here) I heard the same thing from people in America who hail from other countries. As Indian-American rapper, Raja Kumari said in her song "N.R.I" "Sorry that my sari ain't Indian enough And America don't love me 'cause I'm Indian as fuck" I'm not Indian but this speaks to me deeply. Because it's ALL of our struggles. The problem with talking to some family members, they'll bash the shit outta you for not knowing Tagalog but they're never ready for that conversation of "But they raised me here in America. They NEVER taught me Tagalog. They wanted me to assimilate" Yes, I know. We can always learn now but it's so much harder to learn a language as an adult, not to mention not having people to speak it to, so no practice. I live in Missouri now.. Filipinos are scarce, they're here. Just spread out. ☹️ I am making an effort to learn though. It's my goal before I die. I know some sentences & songs. I can sort of understand but having a full conversation is a struggle. One memory that has stuck with me ever since I was 15. I was stuck in a van on a road trip. With my brother's (technically half but I consider him my brother-brother) side of the family. We were going to San Francisco. Our grandma was speaking to me. All I said was "opo" in response.. my brother's aunt said "Is that all you know, 'opo'?" With such a tone & facial expression of disdain and annoyance. I just said "..yeah.." w/a tone that accepted defeat. That fucking hurt.. bad. 🥺 I just wanted to leave the van and run but couldn't go anywhere. Couldn't do a thing except turn my head away & look out the window. I put my sweater over my face and cried silently. Since then, it's been triggering for me when other Filipinos say "oh you can't speak Tagalog. Then you're not Filipino enough" or "not a real Filipino". Those "jokes" are so counterproductive, hurtful, & disrespectful. Anyway, sorry this was long.. I needed to vent a little.

I am half filipino and have been told the same thing which has greatly made me question my identity - this song gave me chills and is making me look at my heritage in a new light. When I learned of my family’s history in school all we learned was how the Philippines was conquered/colonised over and over by different countries. We never learned of all the brave pinays who stood up against oppression and fought for their country. This song has showed me there is so much more to our heritage than what we learned in school. I am still questioning and exploring my filipino identity but this songs me proud even if I am only half filipino

My struggle is being colonized and wanting approval from my Filipino family and friends. My whole life has been them looking down on the fact that I've never been to the Philippines. I was never taught the language. None of that was my fault. When I say I'm Filipino. I say I'm Filipino-American. Because then they expect me to speak Tagalog. I've become so insecure be about it.... When I first went to the Philippines with my grandparents like 1980, I noticed my cousins looked Indian. My nephew did his DNA. His Y-DNA, passed only father to sons, was a South East Asia -Y-DNA. Amongst people in the Philippines who study our ancestors, which of course like my ancestors I do follow the Worship of Ancestors vs Religion, believe from the evidence of anthropology and genetics, some male lines migrated from South East Asia. I have an ancient last name, an ancient Ilocano last name. There is an ancient Sanskrit legend about a warrior with my last name. The female mtDNA matriarchal lines, the original female lines are of Polynesian or Island female lineages. When I first tested at 23andme now years ago, before identifying my Ilocano genes, they identified some of my genes as Polynesian. It took some years to get enough Ilocanos to take the tests. Lol. But I am saying, not all, but at least some male bloodlines crossed from the Continent migrating fo the islands. So, when one is any tribe of the Philippines, We All Know by Our Oral Traditions We Share Ancestors throughout the Continent of Asia. And, to be clear, We All Know We Are Related to People Around the World. Because, Islanders Be Traveling.

Beautiful music video. I was kinda worried about the appearance of traditional costume. I know as asians are very proud about the culture, but some of the prideful show can be cross the border of self-exoticizing or self-orientalizing, i know an artist of my own country that does that to capture western audience. And i'm glad none of that happens here. The traditional costume is not out of context with the message. It's also not sexualizing it. Props to Ruby Ibarra for showing Philippines diversity. I notice some of them are quite similar to my culture. From your neighbor, indonesia

This song empowers the true strength of a Filipina despite of the current issues of today such as the Kuwait-OFW slain murder, Colorism in the beauty industry, Minimum Wage, Discrimination from Misogynists, Rape and Sexual Harassment among women and many more. It doesn't matter whether you've grown up in the PH or in the other countries. It doesn't matter if you're a pure one or a biracial. All that matters is that DNA inside you that keeps your true Filipina identity come alive. This song has opened doors for Filipina Empowerment. Long live the Island Women!!!

As a person of color this song really resonated with me because of the struggles my people continue to face for over 400 years. The delivery of the message through the art form of Hip Hop was done masterfully from the lyrics to beat, I felt the base in my soul. We should always aim to live peacefully with all men, but we should never be content with any strong holds of oppression whether it mind or body, or modern or ancient history. Our oppressor is only most comfortable with diversity for as long as they sit at the top of that hierarchy controlling and moving all the chess pieces on the board. When the Filipinas are in a position of subjugation and servitude the oppressor is completely comfortable because he is glorified and worshipped by those who are without understanding and knowledge of self and sadly ignorantly re-enforce many false doctrine and miseducation among their own people. The truth is the Spaniards oppressed the Philippines and the ruthless legacy of this is still worn by the many faces of the Philippines. Sadly by some this tyrannical lineage can be seen as a badge of honor I admire and respect the women of this video, represent your people and be proud. Much respect. 👍

I absolutely love and respect the strength of the new, young, modern Pinay who are just so strong and do not bend to the norms of the Filipino patriarchy. I've see too many of my female relatives suppressed, oppressed, and ultimately depressed from the religious patriarchy and the male rulings without questioning it. I love the strength I see in this. I wish I could meet them and do a short documentary to show this new movement of strong Filipino women who probably would make my mother and other female relatives cringe. But that would be good. All I want to say is KEEP IT UP!!! Pinay Strong! I love it!!!
