I believe the correct name for this mineral is "red corundum." It becomes "ruby" once the material is transparent enough to be classified as "gem grade" rough. But it still turned out very pretty. Great work😊

Holy crow people. The video isn’t titled “the most perfect and clear ruby that ever rubied” geez. This is, in fact, a ruby. It is opaque, not translucent. Not as precious as transparent and deeply pigmented ones, but pretty damned breath taking all the same. That ruby is lovely, and he really cut it to show that. Good job, jeweller dude! The Kohinoor was twice the size it is now, unsymmetrical, and not at all clear and shiney before the English effectively stole it and had the Dutch cut it. I much prefer this more respectful treatment rather than our westernised interpretation of beauty/perfection.

I have several Gemstones which include a Ruby. My Ruby is shinier, transparent and brighter. This has the color, but definitely does not have the texture or illumination of any Gemstone - let alone a Ruby!
