Yeah. Ruby’s beliefs is mostly based on her views towards her mother and it is entirely possible Ruby’s ascension will have her be own person-not a person chasing the shadow of her mother.

Seeing that shot of Ruby holding Alexis Blade makes me think that it was Little Looking into the blade instead of Herself! All the blades in the show that we recognized were the trauma that she was carrying!

I wonder if they're all real weapons though, that all made it into the EA naturally. I'm not sure now if that's a requirement given all we've seen, but when we first saw them I felt that if they weren't we'd see Pyrrha's weapon too - she was the second big loss Ruby encountered and in terms of trauma and the theme of blaming herself, if Ruby had gotten there just a little sooner or realised Pyrrha was about to die her eyes would have activated earlier and saved Pyrrha. But maybe it was to do with whom Ruby was thinking about/led by - currently she's still consciously following Alyx's path in trusting the cat and trying to get to the tree, following in her mother's footsteps in terms of her life goal, and preoccupied with Penny's death as I guess the big recent event that's making her doubt her path and consider a new one. There could also be the theme of selfishness and willingness to sacrifice others vs selflessness - Penny's weapon turned out to be Alyx's, and Ironwood and the Ace Ops called the team "selfish" for trying to save everyone. Ruby might be comparing herself to Alyx, but also aspiring to be more like Penny and Summer, two people who sacrificed their lives (Summer at least is presumed to in the story) for the cause, and Ruby may be harbouring survivor's guilt in addition to feeling responsible since it was her plan which failed, even though everyone else agreed to it.

I think it would be highly unlikely that they would completely change Ruby’s personality at this point. How about during the ascension Little will refuse to ascend because they do not want to lose their memories of her. Considering how dark this volume has been I think it would be nice if we get at least Ruby remembering an interaction with her mother.

It's funny when you mention Ruby remembering her mistakes, past etc...I am remind of the rest of Team Rwby's speeches they give to their past self's especially Yang who says "My loses, My failures, those more than anything are what shaped me into who I am and shown me how I need to grow. If there is something I am missing it's not because I lost it it's cause I haven't found it yet. And the only way to do that is keep going."

Ruby is the hero yes, but her character arc has never been about following the "Heros Journey" writing trope. Ruby starts the journey off as the Hero but she's meant to be more than that, so she's going on what writers like to call the Self-Reflective Journey. Only one person in RWBY is following the Heros Journey writing trope and that's Jaune because he's a stand in for the viewers.

Ruby will always be the hero through and through, but i'm not sure what her ascension would be, but I will do know one thing this cannot and will not be the end of Ruby Rose and it will never be the end of team rwby jaune,wiess,blake and yang must go to the tree to save ruby and little and destroy courious cat once and for all.

I think it's safe to say that Ruby's ascension will at the very least give her a new redesign, seeing as it's been 3 volumes with the current Atlas outfits, meaning it's about that time for the characters to get new redesigns for the next (and possibly final) 3 volumes. Not to mention, ascension will most likely be the solution to return Jaune back to normal age. If that's two characters already going through ascension, it's safe to assume WBY and Neo will also do so, leading into the redesigns for them also.

I'd say Jaune still has a part to play either guiding the others to the tree to save ruby or ascend himself to be where ruby is. The opening song still shows jaune surrounded by fire which could be apart of ascension so he could be another factor. Considering both of Jaune and Ruby had their weapons lost or broken is a theme or reason to their being/state of mind.

If I am being honest, I hope that Ruby doesn't change all that much, but from a storytelling perspective and considering that there are 2 episodes left in this volume that focused on how Ruby has problems, it makes sense for Ruby not to be same person that she was before. Considering how low she was when she willingly chose to ascend to the tree, it makes sense for Ruby to come back as a darker character. Ruby could possibly be an anti-hero or even an temporary antagonist for Jaune and the rest of team of team have to both deal with and help in the next volume.

I do think that there is a possibility that Ruby will be an antagonist and that her team will have to work together to stop and help her, but it is also possible for Ruby to be an anti-hero, not trying to save anyone but trying to stop Salem by any means necessary. Either way, odds are that Ruby won't solve her issues by the end of the volume.

Due to the time we have left, I think this would be a bit of a longshot to happen, but I would LOVE for Ruby to do the same thing that Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song did with the main character Vivy. She "retreated" into a different personality, "Diva," because she wasn't able to cope with traumatic things that happened. However, she eventually had to come back to her original identity, accepting the bad things that happened to her, along with the good. If they go that route, and give Ruby that character journey, I would be overjoyed!

If we remember that at the start of volume one that Ruby said that the weapons were a part of ourselves and since Crescent Rose also fell it probably manifest a body in the tree what with the other ever after people look like and it will protect Ruby.

If she's remade (like her body broken down and something new put in place) the ruby we know is dead. Same way that Penny in vol 8 is not the same penny we see in vol2/3. If she's reborn 'as the what they want to be', then she's also dead, since Gandalf the Grey is not Gandalf the White would be wack if she was 'reborn' as summer

Random thought, probably won't mean anything, but I thought this was a neat little coincidence. The Emblem Ruby gave up wasn't red right? It was white(technically silver but I'm making a point). Ruby and her mother seem to have a rose theme here. In addition, what was the Red Queen upset over in Alice in Wonderland(at least the Disney cartoon)? That she didn't get red roses planted, and the guards had to paint those white roses, Red. So maybe, Ruby is the painting the roses red parallel. Maybe her new role will give her a new sign that's... Red, like Roses :3 Then again, I'm likely looking too deep into this, I just thought of these connections and think it'll be cool if the Crewby took advantage of that. Who knows, guess we'll see what's what

Though I would assume the Ascension's end would be an upgrade that would enable her to deal with enemies like Neo and Cinder, there is also the idea of there being a price for new found might. She could be an older version of herself but far less positive and naïve. But that could also count as the end of a character.

Ascension could be an interesting way for Ruby to gain knowledge she didn't have before. We know she will be "changed" as the Volume 8 allusion to the story implies she won't be the same girl once she returns. Currently the odds are stacked against the Remnant folk, so this could be the part of the story where the hero goes away after a setback, has to take a time out and work on themselves, and comes back stronger or wiser. In vol 4-5 happened to Yang (she learned to fight smarter, not rush in physically or metaphorically, listen better and question what she heard), Blake (who learned to take a stand, trust herself to speak and leaning on others and to trust those others ) and Weiss (she learned to Summon and finally stood up to her father and chose her own path). So this could be her moment for growth and ascension may be an actual part of the process, like rebirth and gaining knowledge, or a journey, where Little actually does guide her, not just the mistake of trying to end her life where the others have to go after her and save her, which admittedly was my initial impression and I think we're supposed to be assuming at this current point. I don't think she intended to grow from this, but it could happen. Or maybe Little will just guide her back to how she was. Either way, it's a given she's gonna get her character growth lol.

Something that comes to mind is when the cat says the heart rarely forgets which I think will play a role in this. Even though Ruby may come back as what we’re guessing is a better version, her heart will still hold the pain and memories so it could factor into getting her back in some way. I’m not sure though I don’t think we’ll know til the next vol.

If Ruby does return a much stronger and wiser, after learning that nothing is entirely her fault. In a way, she might indeed declare that the Curious Cat is no more than a creature of pure evil, and thus strike him down with her newly improved Crescent Rose, as well as say, "You will not ascend, you bad kitty. I know who I am now. I know or a fact that trying to be something that I can't be is not the way. As of now, I shall become my own kind of huntress, and not the one my mother was."

So I’ve been bouncing this theory around and with this video and just more thinking I’ve added more to it but the start of the theory revolves around I feel given the Summer flashes we’ve been getting, it’s possible „Summer“ will appear to Ruby and convince her to keep going instead of ascending fully. Since it seems at least based on what we’ve yet to hear the Blacksmith say that it’s a choice. And so the new additions I’ve thought about for it is then the manifestation/illusion of Summer gives Ruby a new emblem or leads to the Blacksmith making her one. So she isn’t remade physically but instead remade as her own huntress, not one living up to the expectations set by Summer being her mother and „free“ from the burdens of the past. But instead as her own Huntress.

Ooh, the idea of Ruby making a promise to Little is good. I wanna see that now. I'm all for the "Little is a physical manifestation of Ruby's younger self" interpretation of the multiverse, but, yeah, that would raise some questions. But I found myself thinking, in the nose hairs episode, when the other hunter mice pop up to steal the teapot lady's stuff, oh hey, it's like Rubes acquired a second semblance somehow. First it was Petal Burst, now it's Murine Shenanigans. It's not a direct evolution of course, because that would make no sense, but, at the same time, the fact that both are sort of focused on lots of small things moving around seems telling to me All of which is to say, I really, really want Ruby to have some sort of mouse-based aura-fueled ability upon returning to Remnant. It would compliment her Petal Burst SO DAMN WELL

I'm starting to think that Little is Alyx, when Ruby picked up the dagger Alyx refection is shown, but Little is on Ruby's shoulder it was Littles refection like how the other weapon refection was Ruby. As to Ruby's Accession, maybe a small fragment of the cat heart plays the part of all the negative like what neo did but maybe darker. But with Little she starts to remember her past as Alyx, maybe reviling that the cat tried to fuse with Lewis as a way to get to Remnant like Alyx promised but hade a change of heart. When she's back as Alyx gives Rwby some helpful advice that finally pushes Rwby to be who she wants to be.

@Leigh My speculation is that Ruby ascension is Alyx, in the opening song Alyx arrives in the Ever After at the beach with Ruby’s Scythe washing up behind her. Ruby Ascended with her Scythe beside her. That’s how it winds up at the beach. Remember ascension doesn’t always create a positive personality, if the being is experiencing trauma it creates negative behaviors. To go with this I think Little is Lewis and he will be the one who leaves the Ever After to write the Fairy Tale while Alyx Ascends back to Ruby. This is also why I think Alyx changed so much after visiting the Herbalist, she began remembering things Ruby knew. I don’t think time is straight forward in that place, but I could be wrong, I just think it’s weird how much emphasis they placed on two characters that havent had a line of dialog yet.

Hmmm, besides the identity rework / revive part of ascension, wasn’t there also a memory reset based on what we have been told so far? (Ofc we can’t necessarily trust what we have been told!) but still, what are your thoughts on that side of it? Will Ruby forget some things? I hope not but then again might that be necessary? As for little, while I love the Alice surname theory, and how Ruby has been mirroring alyx throughout the volume, I think there is just as much if not more weight to Little being the part of Ruby that she lost, and when the ascend together they reunite. Because let’s not forget who Ruby’s fairytale is… “Little Red Riding Hood”! Btw the connection u made about the promise and how little could become her new emblem in some way, is adorable! Would be interesting if she meets something akin to a God giving her good ol’ therapy. Legend of Korra had a good quote. *When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.* The Ruby they meet will be the Ruby she always wanted to be, perhaps wanting to save everyone like the Hero in her story, even save Salem from herself by purifying her of the Grimm, such as her reaching enlightenment, becoming more optimistic in the face of peril like a true Hero.

I’m looking for the to happen by the end of V9: Ruby returns, possibly with long hair and definitely better her that accepts her mistakes and grow from it upon her ascension and an experience with Summer Ruby takes on the cat and forces it out of Neo. Neo “dies” and Trivia Vanille is only left and joins the crew(I know what she’s done is unforgivable. The cat also said they don't have their memories. Which would be an interesting take. She comes back as the perfect hero she always wanted to be. One perhaps even capable of ending Salem. But at the cost of something great. In addition to this cost she has no memory of her sister, her mother or her friends. All she knows is her mission. Her purpose. I would love to see a more jaded and practical character come out of the ascension. Someone Ruby though of as capable of doing what she couldn't. She is no longer warm and happy. She is no longer the leader. But the weapon needed to save the world. And then in the later volumes trying to bring back the love that "the heart rarely forgets" could be a continued development.

I hope that her personality doesn't change that much simply because it's who we've grown to know so far, but I am hoping that however she comes back she'll be a little more blunt in her emotions. Like rather than shouldering she'll ask the real questions and talk to her team if she reunites with them. I can also see ruby staying away and training herself differently if she doesn't reunite with the team. Like if she returns to remnant but separated from the group and without knowing who they are starts to get trained by other people, maybe silver eyed warriors that are hidden, or a group of rebellious people who are harsher with their fighting. Another thing is that I'm sure little fell with her and the blacksmith asked little if they were ruby's guide. I want to know if since they fell together they would possibly fuse and ruby would gain an animal characteristic with little's hope and personality mixed with her OR (which is my favorite theory of the two) that little ascends to another being that does guide ruby in her coming battles. Like they return to remnant, ruby doesn't remember who she is but she can fight someone and little, who may change to a different being, can guide her back to her friends or to not go down the dark path of despair should she fall again

NGL I kinda want Ruby to be fundamentally changed. I really like ruby as a character but she straight up committed suicide and that needs a serious consequence as its not like she attempted to die she went all the way replace the tea with cyanide or a gun and she'd be dead. a pep-talk should not fix that. i dont mind if og ruby comes back later but i think there should be a different ruby for a season and i want to see the other WBY+J reaction to seeing their former friend gone especially jean who will probably think(if the writing is consistent) that he drove ruby to this and would fundamentally change as well(Jean in not at fault no one is at fault for a friends/family suicide ). I love these characters but i love good character drama more .

I was reminded of the blacksmith forging butterfly wings, presumably for Herb's rebirth, and I've been playing with that idea, and I thought that in retrospect it's... pretty dark? Do you think the afterans who ascend are literally... melted, by the blacksmith, so that they can be reforged? We got horror in Chapter 8 with the cat entering inside Neo, so I've been considering a scene where Ruby would wake up in the furnace of the forge, in the process of being erased by the flames both metaphorically and physically. Clinging to her memories as they disappear one by one. I ABSOLUTELY don't think it would happen (as you pointed out, erasing Ruby wouldn't make sense narratively) but this would be such a shock if it did. Like seeing the Ruby we know disappear in front of us, with small flashbacks of who she was. Like if you took all the pictures from that scene with the silver eyes at the end of Volume 6, every bit of her mental strength, but now it's becoming ashes.

Professor Osben once said that the relic at Beacon was so well hidden that it would take them a very very long time to find it. What if the Cat is the Relic of Beacon? That Osben used his magic to change its character/shape and hid it in the Ever After. What if volume 10 is Ruby joining with the Cat, and with her silver eyes destroys all Grim. Then all 4 relics are brought together, the gods return to pass judgement.

One thing I wanna say about the cat taking over Neo's body. The only reason that neo got taken over was because after she got her revenge for "killing" ruby, she felt that she now had nothing left and was empty. I think neo was kicked into the passenger seat. Can see what's going on but has no control. Once they meet up again, Neo is going to fight to gain back control OR is gonna slowly make their way towards the real jabberwock to have it consume them both.

Answering this in reverse but, I think they will exit the ever after in the last chapter of V9, but not enter in the first chapters of the next volume to catch us up to what is going on in Remnant. As for Ruby, I think Little and or Louis will play a part in Ruby's return. I hope we get a little more information on the blacksmith in these last two chapters as I would like to see if she is Summer in purgatory of some fashion. It is going to be dark and dismal to say the least.

Can you make another video about Neo. I would love to hear your opinion about her fate and how the wall paintings differ from Romans Holiday. In the painting it is implied that she and Roman murdered her parents on purpose but in the novel she killed them by accident and wasn’t sure how to process it, it also lead to the white streak in her hair that disappeared in her new outfit that appeared after she killed them. I think the reason she’s been so ruthless is because she’s suppressing her memories and forcing herself to remember differently.

Personally I want to see Trivia manifest (distinct from Neo) to kick the cat and try to help free her "sister" from them. Trivia and Neo did both exist at the same time in the book before agreeing that they didn't want to be Trivia anymore, so it's not impossible that Trivia is still there deep in their subconscious. I don't really expect her to succeed, but really I just want to see Trivia animated in the show at all.

I was able to understand the plot of this volume. All the characters were using Ruby as the scapegoat, passing all their problems to her instead of solving on their own. Neopolitan thought that once Ruby is gone, all her problems will be solved once and for all

At the end of the day, we can all blame Oz. Never prepared her fo what was to come. He could have had Qrow, or Ironwood look for Maria to help her utilize her Silver Eyes far sooner. The old man knew what she had, and did nothing. Just stood there in uselessnes in the worst divorce case ever.

Little being Alyx makes a lot of sense. I think the reason Alyx is shown prominently in the trailer isn't that she'll take over being Ruby (which was assumed earlier), but that she'll remind Ruby of where her courage lies; this would be a perfect transition to her speaking with Summer, who would likely remind Ruby that she isn't her. I'm positive Summer would want Ruby to find her own way, to be her own Rose so to speak (A rose by any other name). I do feel like Ruby may experience some physical and pallette changes possibly a bit of white out of respect for her mother and maybe even an emblem of her own; if she doesn't get her own back. Maybe even some blue from Alyx giving her a part of herself to help her on her way; "Little's" last act as her guide. Think when Kid Raven regained her powers and stopped suppressing her feelings (the other colored Raven's): she aged up and her cape turned white (a fusion of all that she was), and she had all of her power/knowledge without the fear of losing control. I think Ruby will experience a very similar evolution so to speak.

I don't know if anyone remembers but in the earlier episodes Little said she wanted to be big to help Ruby. This is why I don't think they will fuse and Little will just turn into someone that can help Ruby.

I think we’re going to get a new Ruby outfit design with a white cloak like Summer’s or other large white elements. But I also think Silver Eyes might be replaced by the magic of ancient humans, and then used to portal everyone back to Remnant and possibly defeat the cat.

I think that by receiving a piece of the Cat's heart, Ruby might acquire knowledge (maybe a flashback) of the latter's past. Maybe the tree will share with her why the Gods left him here. Also, I got a feeling that Ruby will get her emblem back. I say this because: 1) It feels a little late into the story for Ruby or any character to change their emblems at this point (I've yet to see anything canon that says that people such as huntsmen have changed their emblems in the past), and; 2) I got a feeling that Summer will fulfil her promise to her daughter one way or another. Thing with promises (that I'm sure Ruby will learn) is that some promises are only temporary or are prone to be broken due to circumstance beyond one's control, but that doesn't always mean they can't be rebuilt or carried on. Kind of bridges, both sides need to maintain them and there's always going to be something external that disrupts the foundations of that bridge.

I think the only thing that the cat was honest about was that he didn’t know what happened to Alex or Louis to look on his face and how he just said it was different than how he’d said anything else about the entire show. It was straightforward Everything else had a Tangier mystery and talking in circles and questions. This one was just a straightforward answer that he didn’t know what happened.

I fully believed that all four of them were going to become maidens sometimes around or after Volume 4. Specifically: Ruby = Spring, Yang = Summer, Blake = Fall & Weiss = Winter

Honestly, we have the potential for at least two of the main four to be Maidens. Two have family members who are Maidens currently, and that, along with these Maidens knowing that RWBY knows the full truth of everything, may potentially decide to pass their powers onto the girls. For Raven, Yang would likely be one of the first to spring to mind, as she’d be full of regret for not raising her and stuff. What Yang said to Raven in the vault looked like it both hurt and gave Raven something to think about. For Winter, she has Weiss. It would make tactical sense to send the powers to her sister if she were to fall, taking the powers away from the enemy’s grasp while also giving her sister a better chance in upcoming battles, since Winter already knows that Weiss and her friends are likely going to continue to try and thwart Salem’s plans. Once those two learn that the girls are still alive. Then again, could be a case of them not being aware the girls are still alive, but their last thoughts being of their fallen loved ones, and them finding out that, yes, the girls are still alive after all.

The interesting thing about Ruby is that I didn't like her when the series started. I only began to like her in volume 4 and then she made it onto my top 5 character list (sitting at #3) during volume 7. I didn't like how childish she felt, I thought she needed to grow up, which she did need to. And that growth came with a lot of pain, unfortunately. I still think volume 7 Ruby (before she hears what happened with her mom and Salem) is my favorite version of her. It felt like the best balance of that hope and optimism and the growth that's happened over the past couple of years. I hope her ascension brings her back to this Ruby.

Tbh it'd kind of be shallow writing for Ruby's problems to be magically solved by a magical tree in two episodes, magical world or no, her mental state has been building towards this for 9 volumes, this in combination of them saying this is 'only the beginning' and I think Ruby's story will get darker before it gets better. A common theme throughout this show is 'life isn't like a fairy tale', it'd be perfectly neat and tidy for Ruby to come out the other side a stronger and renewed hero, ready to vanquish evil yet again. However, that's not how struggles like this are solved, not in reality. To be clear, I do think Ruby will eventually recover from this dark spot in her story arc, but it's going to take longer than 2 episodes to solve it. The next 3 volumes(which apparently make up one whole season iirc) will be covering things in Vacuo and Ruby's altered, likely a bit darker identity. I don't think she'll be so different that she'd be a literal different person entirely, she'd still be Ruby at her core, but different, if that makes sense.
