The slower speed is why I bought the Japanese version, it plays normal. I also happen to have the Wonderful release of the game, which has a bonus disc with the first arcade Magical Drop on it, quite nice too.

You lost to the black pierrot

Yes, and the same goes to Father Strength. It means that across all 24 battles with that Black Pierrot, you only lost to it twice with Magician and Father Strength. That means that Black Pierrot is not easy to be beaten to be honest.

@@LeslietheLuna2424 It's a secret stage, and it isn't Game Over if you lose to him. Black Pierrot can only be fought before the Tower if you have completed every stage without using a continue. It does NOT matter if you lose to him, since it sends you straight into the final 2 regardless of condition.

There is a bug in this release, the Pierrot at times plays too fast, often destroying you in mere seconds, as shown here. He is beatable, but sometimes you stand no chance against him, no matter what you do. And if you lose to him, you move on to the next opponent, and don't get the chance to unlock him that playthrough by beating him. I have faced him, have yet to unlock him in my PS1 version (yes, you can play as him), but have in my Saturn version.
