Here's a tip that saved me many Volcana runs - if the drill hits lava, you can wait about a minute and a half and the lava will almost always be done dripping. You can hang out or explore the level while you're waiting, and then go at about 2:00 or so

Here's some tips, NL: - Shopkeepers forgiveness is based on "sin" you get for stealing, hitting or being involved in their death (latter gives double the sin - 2 for theft or assault, 4 for murder). It's not enough to not kill them to get forgiveness, you may still end up getting more and more sin by hitting them. There are however some ways for them to die without you being blamed - If drill goes through lava, you can wait out the drippage. All lava is made of individual blobs, and as soon as enough of them fall down, they'll stop moving unless disturbed

He has improved a lot and it doesn't feel like NL, maybe becoming a parent comes with superpowers, and his are being decent at video games. If NL hadn't bopped the shopkeeper on the head on 1-3 he would've been forgiven on 1-4. Like if the shopkeeper does not die on the floor you steal from, and you don't touch them on the next floor you can be forgiven in one floor essentially.

NL, anytime you jump on the shopkeepers head it resets the forgiveness timer, you cannot hurt him at all. if you dont hurt him youll be forgived after 1 floor.

You just make a decision before knowing whether it's ideal in your current situation and instead you can focus on not taking damage / getting Ujed eye / sacking.

It might even help you get the idol/pot/monty thanks to the all the jumps.

Stealing is forgiven in 2 floors as long as you don't interact with them. Assaulting them on the next floor will add 2 more floors until forgiveness. Insta-killing them is 4 floors (e.g. freeze-ray + whip), but assaulting + killing (e.g. shotgun/machete) is 6 floors.

NL, no, the reason you had perma shop keeper agro is you hurt 3 of them, you would've been forgiven otherwise, that one indirectly dying probably didn't affect in one way or another. You get two floors of punishment (counting the floor you're on when you start from 0) per floor you DAMAGE a shopkeeper. You have to exit without hurting them to remove sin, you damage one every floor like 3 floors in a row, before one died on the 4th. that's 6 floors of unforgiveness that then maybe became more when it died, maybe not.

A necromancer is worth double the amount of a standard monster/caveman, though. 4 points alive and 2 dead, while a caveman is 3 alive and 4 dead. Leprechaus are wotrth a grand total of 0, so don't bother sacrificing them.

I got pretty consistent at killing Yama in Spelunky HD and before I bought Spelunky 2 I was critical of NL's performance... but holy shit Spelunky 2 is so much harder than HD, I still haven't beat Olmec after 4 hours

I've never even gotten out of the jungle in HD but I can usually get to the City of Gold consistently in Classic. Only times I don't are if the shopkeepers kill me once or twice in the Black Market. Doesn't help that HD runs like molasses on my PC for some reason.

Re: performing better on low sleep. The only time I've ever pulled an all-nighter for college, I stayed up the whole night writing a presentation that I had to give at 9 am the next day. It was for a final project and I got an 80% on it, so I guess it was worth it, and I only fell asleep once while driving to school (my parents came and picked me up at the end of the day).

Actually, any death, including accidental, that occurs within the process of committing a felony can be charged as felony murder. Since theft of a firearm is considered a felony, the shopkeeper falling onto spikes could be considered murder in the eyes of the courts.

This needs to be confirmed but I believe that you're in a normal sub space area in the jungle the theme plays faintly, but if you're on a level with a black market there's a quiet beating of drums because the black market theme is playing distantly
