That is the ONE thing youtube has done right and I only think it’s because it’s fringe culture, but, I’ll give them their due in inadvertently exposing that “skinhead” culture was originally all about tolerance and unity. I talk to the living ~ Yeah, The original Skinhead Culture was divined back in the early 1980’s Ska & Two Tone moved forward into Oi! Oi! Music & throughout the Late 1970’s & early 1980’s Skinhead & Punk was big news in Britain. Particularly every kid in your class at school was a Skinhead or a Punk. Bands like Sham 69, Madness, Cockney Rejects, Stiff Little Fingers & Splodge were all in the top ten & the 100 club & Skunk (Skins & Punks) Were regular venues for Skins & Bands. Along with the growth of Punk in 1977/78 There had also been a steady increase in racial violence. The mainstream media blamed this on the violent youth & the violent music (Punk/Oi!) That they were listening to. Of course the fact that every major city was now over-run with immigrants had nothing to do with it whatsoever. & the fact that most of the Punk bands were left wing especially the Clash & the Tommy Robinson Band also didn’t seem to matter as the mainstream media launched it’s very own cure, A musical umbrella movement called “ROCK AGAINST RACISM” Working alongside the GLC (Greater London Council) the RAR Movement organised quite a few festivals in & around London. So in response to this, The Right Wing launched it’s very own musical umbrella movement called “ROCK AGAINST COMMUNISM” & started to organise their own shows & mini festivals. At that time following on from the Southhall Riots, Skinhead Bands weren’t really Welcome anywhere. And the RAC Movement was Just what the scene needed. A self financed, Self motivated, underground gig scene that attracted 500 + people to each gig. Simply by word of mouth. The new breed had arrived : SKREWDRIVER, THE OVALTINEES, PETER & THE WOLF, BRUTAL ATTACK, ABH, LONDON BRANCH & THE DIE HARDS were the first bands to play under the RAC Banner, These bands entertained & inspired us but a couple of them gained any real notoriety. i was there at that time and lots of Skinheads actually became prejudiced in the first place because the media kept calling us Racist Thugs & so many Skinheads were attacked by black gangs because they believed the propaganda.
