It was a joy to watch Rudi grow up. I first saw him when he was 18, @ Skate Canada 1976. His 1984 season showed his artistry and technical mastery. Well done, Sir.

There is now a video on YT of the other German skater at the '84 Olympics, Norbert Schramm. I watched it right before this, and the two performances couldn't be more different! Rudi Cerne, every mother-in-law's dream, did a tap-dance in a waiter's costume to a (then) 20+ years old Big Band-Easy Listening number. As a German teenager in 1984, this felt like a dance number from some vapid TV show my grandmother might want to watch. Norbert Schramm, on the other hand, did a choreography to the (then) brand new sound of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", with moves alluding to the (then) new and exciting music video and breakdance moves. That SP was just amazing to watch, if you were a young person in 1984. Norbert finished 9th, but he's well worth watching today!

he deserved the bronze in this Olympics, Savobcik sucked and fell and got the bronze, Rudi was clean, and yes not as hard of a program but he should have gotten the bronze, politics I say

I liked this program, but he could have sold it a lot better, some extensions on the landings of those jumps and some better speed or variations on that camel spin. I can see why they placed him fifth here.
