RIGHT??! Mostly I remember weird monsters, walking around the village, and loving this particular song... Like, I would just run around and listen to its melody and sigh... :)

This game had such a unique set of soundfonts used; it really gives it an almost otherworldly airy quality... Ethereal? It’s a seriously underrated gem.

Music has never been at fault here. My personal favs are the Limelin, Limelin Castle, House, Isle of Skye, Highland, Larapool, and World of Mammon themes. The only track I didn't care much for would be the Boil Hole one.

I like this game for the "Quest" part, making your way to your next destination is a good time. all the other shit is the problem. Fire up that gameshark and skip those random battles kids, max out your elements for later, and have fun Adventuring instead of beating shit with that stick.

you can't really trust big name reviewers like that...they have to worry about things like ratings, so they always go with the popular opinion (which is rarely correct)...it's best to trust independent reviewers...

Eh. I find their earlier works to be mediocre. But their later stuff is pretty amazing imo. Like, Strawberry Fields (Yeah, typical pick lol), Happiness is a Warm Gun, You Never Give Me Your Money, among others.
Reminds me of age 8, 2003. I was stuck in the game, so I went to Melrode to hear this awesome tune. MEMORIES

This is by far my favorite song in the game just because of how upbeat and adventurous it is and i love the drums. I remember the game being aweful once it got into the fighting though. The random encounters happened every few steps and you were very limited for healing at the beginning of the game. There was probably just something I didnt get. I havnt played since i was 11. I love the look and feel of it though.

@LechonPark a letdown? By what standards? I couldn't stand more than a few hours of mass effect, gears of war and uncharted. Meanwhile, I still play Quest 64. In fact, I'm staring at it in my N64. This is my favorite RPG evar.

My buddy's wife gave me all her N64 games since I still play mine, and this was in the box. Played it as a kid but never had a memory card so I never got far. Playing it again now for the first time in 20 years, and this tune really hit me. Was sad it's not just the default town music when I got to Dondoran :(
@pianoguy22215 жыл бұрын
That's what I love about this game. Despite having, to be blunt, a rather primitive sound set, the game still manages to create masterpieces like this one. Who wants a remake of this game? With updated graphics and proper instruments for the music?

The most memorable song in the whole OST. Battles were total garbage in this game, but I enjoyed the traveling, the world was quite expansive.
@hanswinterhalter56178 жыл бұрын
+Cyn I really loved the battles. Apparently the vast majority of people prefer picking "Fight" off of a menu (aka 90% of RPGs at the time).

This is something I've seen brought up before, that RPG is too broad a term. This is not the same kind of game as FFVI, and can't really be held to its standards. I never got that far in this game but I remember enjoying it and this tune is a joy to behold.

This is one of my favorite video game theme's I've ever listened too. Don't get me wrong, the game itself was a good game for the time, but has aged horribly, unlike this song which I still love to this day.

@Siberianhusky8911 жыл бұрын
It's not too bad. You have to learn chords, scales, an instrument helps greatly. Afterwards, don't think too hard. A lot of people who play music make that mistake. Then they think they're geniuses for playing something that's crappy. But all you really need to do is go with what you like. Learn your own style and such.
@Siberianhusky8911 жыл бұрын
I agree. Many people are ignorant of this though. I actually am a music major myself and have studied theory. Believe it or not, some classical compositions by Mozart or Haydn are rather simple. But they were still very creative and that's what made them complex.

Sorry for the late response, haven't check msgs in a while. I do ultimately agree that, when held up against it's brothers at the time, that it falls shorter than them. I loved Earthbound and Chrono Trigger to death. Quest64 just hit all the right buttons for me personally back then by always feeling like there was something far greater to come than what was hinted (but didn't in the long run) and I guess I was making more of a modern day comparison to it rather than it's proper day assessment.
@LechonPark12 жыл бұрын
by normal JRPG standards of the time. I played all the great classic RPGs of the SNES as a kid (Earthbound, FFVI, Chrono trigger, etc.) and was incredibly hyped about this game since RPG decided to crop up on the PSX instead. I even printed the promo pics for Quest 64 and hung them up in my room. And then the game turned out to be a barebones, plain and boring experience with its lack of character interactions, plot, and other elements that made games like FFVI and CT great and memorable.

This is a great song, I can't believe people listened to Gamespot's gay ass review on the music for this site. Where their logic is "This song only has around 5 instruments so they're uncomplex and not good because of it." That's like saying "The Beatles played a song with only 4 or 5 instrument, so songs like Let It Be sucks." Faulty logic.
