Calm down Buttons. His $20-$30 prerelease fee turned into a pack worth $200 tops. Not quite enough to retire. And I’d rather get playable cards at a prerelease than the most expensive card in the set. It was a great experience for him I’m sure, would be fun to open a God pack; however, losing an entire pack of commons/uncommons makes it harder to build a deck. If he got 1 of each mythic, and the duplicates were the bulk mythics or garbage gods, then the god pack contained 2-4 cards that made his deck and several of those are cards that were the top end of his mana curve.. Kruphix and Pharika prob aren’t good in sealed. Sage of Hours, Worst Fears, nope. That’s 4/10. Ajani? Maybe (would play well with Godsend) but even hitting the ultimate is interesting. So you’re hoping the match ends on time?

I remember at a draft we did things a bit different, back during Oath of the Gatewatch my lgs had a 'whacky' draft where we opened 3 random packs and I got a battle for zendikar, oath of the gatewatch, and a dragons of tarkir. Opened the OGW one first and I got a Fetid Heath expedition and was quite happy with just that. Then, I proceed to open the BFZ pack and what did I see? A Prairie Stream expedition also! At this point 'winning' the draft hardly was a concern for me as the value opened was sweet and so unlikely to happen, from the third pack it was simply a bonus to see an Atarka's Command too.

Most Hydras are green, a few are red, a few are R/G. Most hydras are basically “cast it, must survive until your next turn, then when you attack, probably double the number of counters on it.” The Jellyfish added blue mana, flying, and card draw to be good. It also exists in a standard with tons of dual lands, and gets flying into green decks and trample into blue. And it isn’t legendary either. Does it really count as a hydra?

I’m just saying that it basically violates the “creature-type wheel.” Hydras, beasts, and jellyfish are 3 fairly low play creature types. I mentioned the non-legendary as a bonus vs most other creatures you intend to cast for 6+ mana. WotC tacked on random blue mechanics to a random creature type. They realized U/G was weak, so they said “let’s just make the best card in the set U/G.”

That's not completely true...there are always some level of complainers, but certain sets attract a lot more, and others like Dominaria, or even the current Ravnica sets are generally well recieved. Perceived power level is a big factor, which isn't necessarily the best reason, but hey...

FYI, the most expensive card in the set is Athreos, God of Passage at $28 market price non-foil and $80 for the foil. Mana Confluence is $10 for the regular and $17 for the foil. At this stage I have no idea where Rudy's Hairy Arms get their prices from.

Its in Rudy's benefit to show strong box openings because it directly promotes patreon support and purchases. If 90% of his opening videos were of his patreons getting hosed and making 2/3rd their money in EV do you think we'd get so many of these videos? It would basically turn into an anti-commercial for his main product/service. With product that's opened infrequently due to box costs those are definitely legit (the saga block openings being a prime example of legit). But with stuff like Ultimate Masters there's nothing stopping him from choosing to showcase stronger openings and eat the losses as 'marketing costs'. So, yes, based on nothing but instinct, I think Rudy does doctor his setup to some degree. Whether he does this through choosing to upload only specific opens on camera or through opening extra boxes. It's great if I'm wrong and Rudy is doing everything 100% legit. That just means he's consistently lucky with newer product openings which makes for some great youtube as well as marketing for his business. A happy coincidence that benefits everyone.
