What happened during the MMFF Awards night was that they, Rufa and Nanet Mendev deliberately announced the wrong person as the winner. Gsbby Conception instead of Edu Manzana. Ruffa was nominated in the best actress category and her cahoots announced her the winmer instead of Aiko Melendrez. Ruffa later returned the trophy when the scam was publicized. The public outcry was such that there was even a senate investigation. I stand corrected. It was 1994. MMFF not 1992.

I'm not really a fan but lemme say this, Ruffa is always fun to watch in interviews. Others may see her as "maarte" but that's precisely why she's fun to watch. Rufa is a class act no comparison to anybody, I’m so proud of her for raising her kids alone and instilling the importance of education in them. I also a single mother of 2 grown kids here in California.... I left my ex in the Philippines when the kids were little because my opportunity and theirs were better here. Although he was a prominent businessman and can afford to raise us, I longed for my independence to find my career and helped with raising my kids. The sad part is when the kids both started college, their father asked if they can go to college in the Philippines and they can have any course they want to take coz it’s much cheaper over there. The kids turned down his offer coz they really want to pursue their studies in the US. So they studied and finished their chosen courses without their fathers help, but with help from US government scholarships and loans! God was really good He guided and helped us in the right path. The kids are happy with their chosen career and did not stop educating themselves, my daughter is soon to finish her doctoral degree in Psychology!
