Electric driven vehicles may go better in flooded roads, because the batteries weigh them down by an additional one thousand pounds. And that helps explain the loss in tire life by 50%.
@pqvid2 ай бұрын
Not true for both. Tesla Model 3 weighs about the same as the current generation BMW 3 series, maybe 100kg more - the weight of an extra passenger. Secondly, I haven't noticed any increased tire wear on my Model 3 compared to the BMWs before (and those were 200-300kg lighter than the modern BMW). If you play the "Traffic Lights Rally" - then you probably could wear down your tires quicker. But the same is even more true for a gas car. In fact, Tesla will prevent any wheelspin, even if you go completely pedal to the metal - so it's not that easy to wear tires. And back to the weight - I also can't believe how big and how heavy cars are becoming. But that's an unfortunate trend, and it's not EV's fault - it was already happening long before them.

There are two major advantages for electric cars in such situations. One is that they do not require air. In an internal combustion engine, when water enters, the incompressibility of water causes the connecting rods to bend, rendering the engine useless. Another advantage of electric cars is that they have much better traction in deep water because they don't float due to their higher average density in water. Due to their weight relative to size, they have better traction and are not as easily swept away by water, as often seen with internal combustion engines that are very light compared to their size.

Some nice bow waves from those Tesla's. Are they smarter than the average driver ?
@truhartwood3170 Жыл бұрын
The cars themselves or the drivers of the cars? The cars are definitely getting there! Can't wait until my car is driving me around, while I recline and relax knowing it's way safer than any human could ever be.
@insanityideas Жыл бұрын
They are going a bit more steadily than the average driver, but it's also really easy to control speed when going slowly so it's easy to set up a bow wave without stalling. The shape of the front of the car also helps, it leans forward a bit rather than sloping back.

Water drag and resistance. Anything thats not well secured and or gets exposed to too much force gets ripped off. See some of the other Rufford Ford vids, they collected piles of car parts over time.

This about the only thing EVs are any better at
@notverygoodguy2 ай бұрын
And they are better at keeping warm/cool while you are shopping. Oh and they are better at accelerating. Oh yes, they are better at sitting in a car wash with all your electrics on. That's about it I guess, Oh no, they are also better for sleeping in with the climate controls on and sitting in a traffic jam in a tunnel. That's it for sure. Oh, I forgot, they are also better at costing practically nothing in "fuel" if you can charge from home. And another thing I keep forgetting, they are better for rear passengers because there is no stupid hump in the back. Some of them are better at powering things so they can act like an enormous extension lead. Oh yes, and they start better in the winter. etc etc etc etc

You should really do your research, modern EVs are waterproof for up to 30 minutes. All those batteries are sealed to be waterproof.
@moragkerr9577 Жыл бұрын
@@blackwhirlwind1245 There's a video up from a guy whose wife's Renault Zoe was stuck in flood water for 12 hours. No error messages, drove it away. Battery and motor perfect. He dried it out very carefully, and there's a follow-up video from over a year later to show the car still running perfectly.

Its not the here and the now with any cars . Its what happens tomorrow or the day after . or the years after the flood water has seaped slowly into the car electric circuitry the sensors on the car will fail , the brake sensors , the seals will be severely tested that stop the water getting into the battery box ...believe me , they will prematurely fail and results will be catastrophic but not just yet . Maybe when some innocent owner has just bought the car say when its 5 years old and then we shal see just how good the wretched EV really is .

All EVs have sealed battery and motors. None of them have an air intake or exhaust pipe to let water in. Not sure if I'd take mine through there to save three miles of journey but if I had to do it, I'd rather do it in an EV.
