Love the calm but assertive manner of Aimee Barrett-Theron! "Not angry, just disappointed." :D That hit hard!

One of the best parts of the sport - great to listen the exact words from the man in the middle.

Why's the ref at 1:25 more jacked than the two players 😂

Given his passing, could you do a Tom Voyce tribute? I get footage from his era might be hard to come by though.

I find Rugby refereeing to be so toxic. When a ref makes an obvious mistake and a player points out that they have made that mistake there is this culture of belittling and gaslighting them. It may work with school kids but it is so demeaning to talk to adults in the way that refs do.

Just a question; have you ever played the game at any serious level? Because I think you misunderstand the obvious reason for the referees' firmness in certain situations. I am a player nearing the end of his career and have now been refereeing alongside playing for 2 years. Maintaining control and discipline on the pitch in a game which can easily descend into absolute chaos if not managed correctly is paramount to ensure the safety of all players. To that end - whether I have made a mistake or not is irrelevant. I have made the call as I have seen it and that is the call. I don't care about your interpretation of the laws in that moment. A player who questions the call respectfully will get an answer if the time is right, but ultimately they are there to play rugby and focus on the game and not moaning in my ear. What you're interpreting as belittling and gaslighting - I'm seeing more as the referee non-overtly reminding the player that he's overstepping some leniency he's being shown in questioning the call in the first place (particularly if he's not the captain) or being annoying by having multiple bites of the cherry when provided with the referee's logic.

That really isn't how it is. The referee's authority is final in the sport, most referees I have ever played with have been perfectly amenable to feedback and will usually admit their mistake of approached in the right manner. The point is that as a player, the values of respect for the officials means that you are taught to accept the referee's decision even if you don't agree, and many laws in rugby can be subjective and open to interpretation, which means if every decision gets questioned and debated the game just wouldn't be practicable. The players cede to the referee's decision, the referee doesn't let the players dictate and that's crucial to the sport. That's not to say it couldn't be improved! Refs like Steve Walsh were always notorious for being big egos and not accepting any feedback, but the majority are very civil. In my (admittedly low league) experience anyway.

Also tbf it's worth pointing out that the game did start out as a school game, so the edict of respecting the referee, calling them "sir" etc kind of trickles down from the public school days when the referees were schoolteachers....

To be fair, there are a lot of shite refs out there at the moment. Pearce chiefly amongst them. The incident at 0:32 was a complete joke. The munster player was thrown into the sign -- and somehow the thicko gives Munster a penalty for that. He was an utter embarrassment in the first Ireland/SA test too -- in conjunction with Ben Whitehouse. All stems from the fact that Barnes was a complete embarrassment in the last RWC -- and instead of making them take responsibility for it, World Rugby let him ref the RWC final. Two inferior teams -- and a shite referring performance -- made it the worst display of rugby at the most critical time. Funnily enough, they still let him spout absolutely shite and take no responsibility for being shite across the entirety of the RWC.

Are you, by any chance, a bitter Ireland fan? Refs make mistakes all the time, it’s part of life
@silentfrog5 сағат бұрын
@@matthew3078I'm not even sure they are a rugby fan if they think Pearce is chief amongst shit refs.
@lamelamelame35 сағат бұрын
@@matthew3078 nope... I'm a realist.... and if they make mistakes, own up to it. Barnes is out there thinking he wasn't utter shite the entirety of the last RWC, and that it is not fair to criticise the refs. Way too many shite refs around -- and no action to either sanction or discard the shite ones. Instead they reward them by giving them appointments they are clearly not deserrving of -- and inferior teams like the Saffas and Kiwis profit from it -- while the game of rugby suffers for it.

@ ahhhhh I see, so it’s coincidence that you picked out refs from games involving Irish teams, gotcha

And I’m willing to bet that refs generally aren’t as shit as biased, emotionally reactive supporters make them out to be.
