I remember playing Otley in the Yorkshire Cup and poor lad touched the ball down on the 5 metre line thinking it was his own try line. Obviously he thought he was under more pressure than he was. Needless to say seeing his mistake I picked the ball up immediately and ran the 5 metres over the try line for a try. The lads face, I still remember.

@@magnusmcgee993 but at the finals? Fucking hell, I get respecting the ref almost all sports have extreme repercussions for absconding a ref in anyway. Basketball and Football, any intentional touching of an official is an immediate sending off, fine and suspension but usually in the finals the refs will give players some kind of leeway considering it's the last games of the year, and the fans come to see the players, not the refs. At 4’20, it may not be 100% dumb: in the French championship, you need to loose by 5 points or less to get a defensive bonus (instead of 7 points elsewhere). As SF was led by 18-12, the drop goal helped SF loose 18-15 and get the defensive bonus, not such a bad deal as they were playing away (in Toulouse). Obviously, the head coach would have preferred they tried to score a try + conversion to win the game...
@alexisplanche6949
@alexisplanche6949 3 жыл бұрын
The problem is that that match took place in 2011, and at that time, the losing bonus point was still at 7 points behind or less, the 5 points rule only arrived starting at the 2014-2015 season. That means that the Stade Français already had the losing bonus point when Contepomi attempted the drop goal, which was thus useless. When you add the fact that the SF was only 6 points behind, with the ball and only 10m away from the try line, they had a really good opportunity to win the match instead of acquiring a losing bonus point they already had.

If you think i didnt get annoyed by McCaw in a red jersey you are very wrong. BUT my point is after years of intense debate and scrutiny leading to refs keeping a close eye on him they still rarely pinged him(for a no.7). And of anybody in a rugby team its the open sides job to push the boundary and find the refs limit. If they are not doing this they are not doing their job as no.7 (no.6 in SAF?). I get the frustration, i do, remember the final in the fog Crusaders v Canes? How did that happen? Red and Black Magic? In rugby, generally, it is not illegal to frustrate the opposition.

You can always kick the ball off the pitch, if the last defender had done that after the missed penalty then the match would have ended and his team would have won the game. Because he deliberately passed the ball directly out of play he was penalised so play carried on. The (much easier) penalty was scored and his poor decision turned a certain victory into defeat.

One cannot carry the ball back over the touchline to end the game. Any ball handled before the touchline should be played upfield, not back over the touch. That is an automatic penalty.

@llewellynlulu7714 4 жыл бұрын
@@groenhoender I had it slightly different @thys v, although my understanding is partly similar to yours, is it not more a case of a player not being allowed to deliberately throw or pass the ball over the dead ball line, hence the penalty?
@groenhoender
@groenhoender 4 жыл бұрын
@@llewellynlulu7714 Correct - rules in rugby has changed recently to prevent any team carrying or kicking or throwing the ball back over the touchline in order to prevent the other team from using opportunities. It is also considered poor sportsmanship to do this. It is now a new rule resulting in an immediate penalty kick.

You can't deliberately throw a ball outside the field . That's a penalty . He just had to put the ball down and o think the referee would have ended the game there because it was past the 80th minute. Instead it was a penalty in front of the posts
