My nephew and I were there that night. We were sitting under the video screen at the Kingsland End of the stadium. From the entrance to our seats was like 40m max! I will never forget the experience of actually being there and I remember vividly the whole opening ceremony. I come back often to this posting and sit and watch it for hours. The best part for me as a spectator was physically being asked to use our cell phones at the very beginning to the countdown - - that was awesome!

No other opening ceremony can top this one off, the goosebumps happened when she called out, shivers when she called out to the world, tears when the haka started. I am ever so proud to be kiwi, because when one calls we all answer, no matter where we are or how far we are, whether or not we still remember who we are after years of being migrants, something deep in us answers back, we stick together in times of need and rejoice together in times of triumph. I'm proud to be kiwi

@kirkbriderz Maori consider Tongans (and all Pacific people) to be tuakana (older siblings/relatives) as we had to let some of our ancestors off the waka (canoes) as we journeyed through the Pacific Islands to New Zealand. Hence, the reason why we acknowledge our pacific brothers and sisters. A very unique bond we have in New Zealand. It is a beautiful thing!!

This gives me chills and tears were streaming down my face. I am a kiwi living in the States for the past 20 years and the power in the haka never fails to excite and stir me. I will watch this over and over again.

@MyZelda23 It is not a song but a Karanga (or Call) of which I could barely make out, "E te iwi, Ko te ihi, kei te wehi, ko te mana o nga iwi e" which basically means: TO THE PEOPLE GATHERED HERE, WE HOLD THE IHI (essential force, excitement, power, charm, personal magnetism), THE WEHI (dread, fear, something awesome), AND THE MANA (prestige, authority, control, power, influence, status, spiritual power, charisma - mana is a supernatural force in a person) OF THIS PEOPLE AND THIS LAND.

i just want to thank you for posting the opening ceremonies for those of us who didn't get to see them, sorry but UK should not let itv be the ones to bring us the world cup, they only showed us a small bit of the opening ceremonies and then talked through what they did show us with rambling about past world cup games, i'd have rather seen the opening... it was spactacular, thank you again for letting us see it in all it's glory and beauty

Maori are considerably well respected compared to other indigenous cultures. Only a small minority know about the history of their indigenous history in AUS or NZ which is quite sad really because it's part of the upbringing of early settlements and values of what mould the countries. It's not the best but we as maori are lucky that we get respected in the fact that most others indigenous are not all that well looked after.

@chapraanclub Totally agree. Thanks for that! There are more serious matters to worry about in the world and they want to make a go of it now, right here!! Some people just need to clean up their own "back yards" before judging others. Truly appauling behaviour and certainly not a good reflection on NZ. Get it together people!!! [Note: Any derogratory comments on any matters irrelevant to the RWC or this video will be removed. Please keep it clean. Thank you.]

@himfan1 Some more places: - Wellington. The capital is always cool to visit. Make sure you visit the Beehive (Parliament building), and be sure to keep ahold of your hats, for Wellington's nickname is Windy Wellington! - Christchurch. Christchurch may be not much more than rubble in some parts now, but it's a plucky city (it has to be), and NZ rallies round it, giving support for the earthquake-stricken people. - Mt Ruapehu, the North Island's tallest mountain, is WELL worth a visit!

Mean az. I remember that haka. My sister and Aunty performed the same haka a few years ago with Kelston. Witini was one of my aunties voice coach, lol. I liked the whole seramony from staart to finish. Wish i was that 13 year old boy that flew 30ft up into the air. Well done to the organisers of the organisers of the night it was all soooo spectacular

This is pretty amazing... The most amazing thing about it is how much the presenters need to talk!! I am seeing it with my own eyes so I don't need a running commentary of what is going on ffs, it just ruins my enjoyment of the actual spectacle!! Some explanation, fine, such as the hammerhead motif of the event, but describing exactly what is going on? Just shut up and let us enjoy it!!

I was hoping to watch this again. Was in town when they showed this, it was way too packed & barely got a glimpse of this outside of the cloud. The announcers are annoying though, all they do is just state the obvious
