Always remember this, was a 21 yr old 2nd chef at a Australian themed pub in Nottingham. We had about 400 England fans in and 3 Aussie fans (friends of the owner ) done 92 Aussie breakfasts in 2 hours and 411 orders in the 14 hours the kitchen was open. The head chef did 6am-3pm and I did 8am till 9pm as I slept in as I did 5 straight 13 hour shifts .

On this day I had a bet with my best friend that England was going to win it as he picked the Wallabies. During the sudden death period the television started playing up as if someone was pausing the game and playing it again after a few seconds. It made it unbearable for me and my best friend so we snuck to the kitchen and turned on a small transistor radio so we could listen to the game in real time. While the rest of the people watching the game with us on the TV beared with that old scrap in the living room, my friend and I were nervously listening in to the last few minutes of that sudden death on an old radio in the kitchen right up until when Johnny nailed that drop goal. As I yelled in delight with both hands up in the air, my best friend grabbed the opportunity of my exposed ribs and gave me a one two punch combination on either sides of it which made my arms recede to protection mode on my sore sides, laughing and coughing at the same as I found it funny that my best friend owes me $50 right there on the spot and has somehow let out his frustration of losing the game on my ribs. Of course it was all in good fun just climaxing on an epic game for both of us. And plus he knew my ribs could take it since we were both natural athletes and super fit too at the time. He gave me the $50 he owed me straight after that, being a good sport as he was...he died of a drowning accident 3 years after that. But this particular game, this Legendary one is the game I always hold the dearest to my heart. Not because England won cos we're not even English but because every time I come across this particular game, I always see my best friend and I in that small kitchen with the small transistor radio being so lost and as emotional as those English and Wallabies fans that day, along with everything else that followed...i miss him so.
